Ruger Precision Rifle Overview and Insights

this is the Ruger rpr Ruger precision rifle chambered in 65 creedmore as some of you guys know I've been getting into precision shooting shooting long range shooting bolt guns shooting sniper rifles for the last couple years recently got back from my first sniper match shooting my surgeon CSR and lots of people find that gun very cool and it is very cool but there's a lot of people that say Hey can you shoot some more budget friendly bolt guns some more Factory you know guns that we can buy and we can get and the Ruger rpr was on the list there's a few others the Sig cross the Daniel Defense one there's a few Factory guns I would like to bring in to shoot kind of play with see what's going on but I thought it would be great to start with the Ruger rpr and I have a few reasons for that first off when this rifle released back in I think it was 2015 or 2017 I've had tons of people from the PRS Community tell me that this is the gun that got a ton of people into PRS um basically what it is is it's it's not your average hunting rifle or bolt gun um it is a full chassis syst system it was fairly inexpensive at the time they still are they're like $1,500 so we're not spending thousands of dollars for a bolt gun uh and it gives people a weapon that they could take to a match and feel like they can be competitive with they're not taking their standard 30 out 6 Remington 700 they can take a gun that looks like all the other competitor guns and hopefully functions hopefully the same and be able to compete in a match like that uh and not be made fun of for their fud hunting rifle so so I'm really uh I I really like stuff like that when a company you know makes a rifle um or creates something that enables people to go get into shooting events or go to the range and start training so that's just something that's really cool about this rifle in particular there's obviously lots of other bolt gun companies that are making inexpensive rifles under $3,000 uh for the production Division I believe it is uh but the Ruger rpr was really the most popular and I think it still is one of the most popular entrylevel boltt guns that people people are buying who are serious about training and they're serious about shooting a match like PRS the new rifles have an arcco rail built in so for those of you who are unaware ARCA is really the standard when it comes to tripod use and bipod use because you could slide the accessory along the rail without completely detaching and that's very important for high angle shooting where you may have to retract your bipod to here or maybe you're shooting off of a very small obstacle and you have to quickly adjust your bipod further into the gun you can't go all the way uh to the end which you would normally want to do um it also becomes important for high angle shooting if you're shooting off of a tripod and the fact that this rifle has it baked into the rail saves you guys about $100 in adding one to the gun afterwards using like mlock standard magpole grip it has a AR safety which I actually I don't use safeties with bolt guns I probably won't use this um I use the bolt as my safety granted if I absolutely had to I you know I could safe the gun um so that's kind of cool uh but the most interesting thing about this gun in my opinion the rpr takes standard 20 round or in this case this is a 10 round AR10 sr25 m110 magazine now this is great for a few reasons uh these are cheap um aics magazines accurate mags MDT mags are a little bit pricey I think they're around $60 a pop now if you're shooting a bolt gun you really only need two or three mags so like it's not too bad uh but the fact that this takes standard magazines is great um as far as uh Battlefield pickups goes and I've also heard that this rifle has actually been issued to different organizations who work around the world and I I don't know exactly why they picked this gun I I want to say it's probably because of mag interchangeability and not having to rely on AIC magazines this can take them which you know the skinny bolt gun style magazine um but we're probably going to rely on these so one thing about the rpr that I find very fascinating um it has the appearance from this side especially of a budget uh imrad rifle but the thing that I actually really like about this gun for uh newer Shooters and it would have probably been convenient for me a little bit is when you are working the bolt the bolt is completely covered by cheek rest and the folding stock assembly um now the reason I say this could be convenient for some Shooters probably a lot of new Shooters is when you are working on sending the bolt back chambering around real quick taking a followup depending on how close your cheek and your eyeball is to the receiver it could feel really weird to be slamming this piece of metal right towards your eyeball and I caught myself early on as I was shooting dipping my head away from the gun every time I work the bolt uh which is ineffective it's inefficient you don't want to do that uh so I find it interesting that you know this gun has the bolt completely covered up so I'm going to imagine that for a newer shooter um getting on this gun and even you know when I was on it and working the bolt um earlier I was like wow this you know I don't feel like I'm about to smash this bolt into my eyeball I can more consistently stay on the gun if I haven't practiced this very particular thing um you'll also see on the gun there's no mlock rail on the top so if you want to mount thermals or clipons you will have to mount your own section of rail as far as the B bolt throw itself it's actually pretty smooth I'm pretty impressed with that um but once I start throwing ammunition in here that's where we'll see uh just how smooth it is um especially ejecting spent casings and how tight they might be in the chamber so that will be very interesting but the most important thing is now we have to build this out we're going to build this out I not shot this gun as another disclaimer we went and purchased this gun I bought this on um sport South so we did not get this from Ruger this is an anonymous sample that we have I will say though I'm not going to do some big crazy tests with this as far as round count goes we will shoot groups we will Chrono we will shoot drills um I will shoot some of the same drills that I shoot with my CSR and see if this gun can compete K I'll rack at 400 m some of the 100 meter drills that I do all right so uh let's talk about Optics now for a gun like this I know some of you guys in the comments are already going to say this is not a budget bolt gun it's $1,500 well guess what budget is relative it is relative to the person who is buying what your budget is is different than my budget and it's different from many other people's budget if there were not people out there buying this rifle it wouldn't exist um so there are tons of people who are pting up ,5 $1,600 to buy this rifle and at the same time there are tons of people who Pony up the cash to buy something like a night Force now this is the nx8 or nxs I think it's the nx8 I can't remember uh 4 to 32 this is a $1,900 scope I believe or $1,800 what's funny is when you start going online and you start looking for imrad reticles with Christmas trees everything ends up being around $1,800 uh there's some Chinese stuff that's below 1,000 bucks but even the primary arm scope that I got was still like ,00 I want to say or 1,00 I have it in here somewhere um with an emrad with the Christmas tree so when you start looking for some of those features for a first focal plane optic that has all of that you start getting up into the thousand plus range now I did just order a Aran scope which was 850 bucks with a Christmas tree Mill reticle and we will see how that does uh probably on a different video on the Armory Channel um but for now I'm going to use a $1,800 scope option the night Force 432 um and I'm going to take this Mount off because it's nights and it's I don't need it on here so good scope M XT uh we'll do something budget for scope rings so I have uh seein 30 mm yep he's good and what we're going to try to do CU I'm not going full budget these are dive boards for lasers from Vortex but I think they will line up with the seein so we're going to do probably the long one and there's a couple reasons for that this is obviously a little extra money in the future when I mount a uh rang finding laser which I have a couple options right here I have the vortex which is cost effective it's like $1,500 uh there are lots of people using these I also have the new uh Tango fire 4000 CH of targets which is really nice this guy is also like 400ish dollars and this uses Applied Ballistics this uses Geo ballistics uh vortexes thing so I will have the ability to mount one of these in the future but while I'm not using a laser I can use this for resting my hand on for shooting off of very specific uh positions because you don't want to apply pressure to your scope so I could do that off of the dive board so this is the Mount we will use um let's see little accessories this is our long range drawer so we have like again ARCA plates um if you have a rifle that does not have ARCA built in um this one's from uh saw tooth I think uh these are like $80 $100 something like that $10 uh here's an aics mag for from MDT we'll actually try that cheap cheap Bubble Level we'll go ahead and use that literally just a fix it sticks uh bubble we definitely want a level and this is like I don't know 40 50 bucks uh much cheaper than some of the other stuff I could run a card but I probably won't spare castol but I already have one [Music] yes yes I think we're okay I think we're good and these are not supposed to I mean I don't know if they're supposed to work together but you know what we do weird stuff around here at T-Rex arms you guys know it okay she'll buff um she'll yeah yeah she'll be all right um that's yeah not supposed to work but you know what it does so that's great that's what we're going to run Vortex shorty dive board on top of a seein it's going to be great let's double check the torque spec um 25 in pounds uh cuz I just feel like that's right but we won't torque down all the way yet because we have to level oh yeah that's beautiful that's that's lovely it's also really low uh this is a much lower scope mount dive board than most so for certain lasers it'll probably be too short um you see how tall the turret is in relation to this um because the vortex it's really high and they took that into consideration when they designed this dive board it looks like which is good so good for Vortex um if I'm like my Mars or something else on here I might have some issues but um or not you know I don't know yeah these are going in just fine I'm pretty sure these are compatible normally if you're not going to do what I'm doing now these screws to attach to the upper receiver I'm going to do 30in PBS um and we should be good with that now now if I was smart I would go ahead and double check Torx on all these uh but I'm going to trust that Ruger did a good job and that I don't need to check all four of these screws going into the uh action I'm not going to worry about these but if I were if I were really trying to optimize this rifle I would check torque on everything just a double check but I'm actually not going to do that I'm going to trust that Ruger technicians have impeccable QC and that they did that for me now this is the fun part because I got to establish eye relief and normally my Scopes go jeez I need to unlock these like all the way for so normally I can always retract this further back it's like in the halfway position um which is probably decent yeah I'm thinking scope to pck atini is the play yeah yeah that's for sure it okay so let me Mark that yeah I think that'll be solid so that's the scope now let's talk about accessories so I have this little guy these things are great um this is from MDT they make a ton of snipery stuff I think that's like all they make basically um big company very nice got a nice Christmas card from them with signatures from all their employees it's very very nice um this is a little thumb rest that is mlot compatible now I've actually stuck this into my kex pattern on my CSR um this just gives you something to kind of rest your thumb on when you're on a bagged position super convenient and they're cheap I think it's like 20 bucks um so it's not a lot sick all right Bubble Level so the best level on the market definitely the one that's easiest to use is the MDT electronic level it has little lights that turn green when the gun is level so out of the corner of your eye you can see the flash of uh blue for this side red for this side green for the middle but they're like $250 so this guy is a little bit cheaper it's just a very simple standard you know using water uh to tell you what's going on so or some fluid I don't know liquid I'm not I was homeschooled um I want this close to where I could see [Music] it that's pretty good uh they also make levels that are built into scope mounts you could put them on top I actually have a night Force Level that could go up here um I don't know if I would like that as much I like I like down here uh and it's consistent to where I normally look to see if my gun is level if I'm training with a different uh weapon uh with one of the electronic levels so this little guy is great I definitely want to make sure he's on there good okay so we we have a bunch of different bipods here in the Armory and we're testing some of them out we're playing with them uh the most common that you've probably seen is the Harris very fast to deploy got these huge sprs um these are about $60 $80 $200 something like that You' probably get them cheaper um they can extend if you need them to for high angle shooting or shooting off of uh weird positions potentially and then these retract you do something push that yep it's a nice little bipod the downside to this is it is extremely lightweight um they are cost- effective you'll typically see these on lighter weight guns a15s things like that sprs Mark 12s um when you start getting into bigger guns like this that's where people go and get a full metal bipod uh something larger so this is the uh ACU acut Tac bipod um there's a couple different flavors the one I have on here already is probably the one I'll use um very normal form factor you pull the legs down to articulate them which I hope won't be too much of a problem um they can also extend you just grab the leg and pull looks like that's as far as out as it'll go and then when you want to put them away you just grab the latches um you can go in a few different uh angles and orientations for different positions what you can't do is flare them outwards more or inwards more which the MDT Sky pods can do now this is the flagship these are $8 $900 they're very expensive uh but when it comes to feature set the ability to collapse them all the way in for high angle shooting if I have to be low to the ground span those out span them forward maybe retract these boys now I have this you just have a lot of options with this particular bipod um this is the double pull they also have triple pull so you can basically shoot in a kneeling position um it extends out to like here it's kind of ridiculous but you know what dudes are using those in matches to win so I'm not going to judge too hard um these are really nice this is what I use these on my main bolt guns uh single pole I don't use the double pull it's just a little much um and you have all the extra weight uh you also have the mag pole which nobody likes uh it's cheap it's plastic it's rickety I would much rather use a Harris I love magpole I just think they uh I'm just not a huge fan of this bipod we have a couple of them floating around um the other one I don't have here cuz it's on a gun probably is the Atlas Atlas is very popular they it's kind of a cross between a Harris and probably one of these as far as price point so these are like 200 these are like 450 these are 800 the atlas is kind of in the middle uh for these two and the mag pole I think is positioned around where the Harris is at um so for this gun weighing this will be like 16 pounds by the time I'm done with it uh I want to run a little bit beefier bipod and something that has ARCA yeah that's pretty cool it's actually I have to get used to that so this guy is positioned very well for let's just level that a little bit oh it's like perfect um they definitely designed this dive board with this in mind because you'll see how tall that sits in relation to the pitini base and where the screen begins um so if you come back here and look at it you'll see um very good form factor over the scope up into the device to tell you what you need to do uh actually looks pretty good from that angle uh it's actually kind of nice now from the side looks like a Tuma um it's kind of big but that's all right so this is the Tango fire it's a little bit lighter not a whole lot uh but you'll also see it sits a lot flatter so these have Springs which is good so that's what that will look like so that that's actually low enough with that particular dive board where I will see the screen be able to shoot uh sits a lot flatter than the vortex uh you guys might think it looks cooler as well so that's another option that just came out uh they just had their first shipment this is one of the first ones uh and it seems pretty cool uh but the gun looks uh looks pretty sick with what what we have on it right now and it's simple uh we don't have a lot going on we don't have lasers I have a simple Bubble Level I have a scope and this is a point I want to make real quick and that is there's probably some of you guys watching this video who still think this is way too expensive because this is up to like close to four grand or is four grand um there are lots of people out there who are shooting guns like this if there weren't people out there spending this kind of money these companies probably wouldn't exist this rifle probably wouldn't exist so this may be too expensive for your taste but I'm going to venture to Guess that a lot of people who are upset about the cost of this gun own 10 AR15 most of which don't have Optics or they have six different hunting rifles that all cost around $600 a piece if you're smart with your money and you actually look at your gun collection and you look at the capabilities that it possesses it is very likely you should go sell off 80% of the guns you have to get into stuff like this that you will actually train with and have more capability with um I have seen people so many times make comments about expensive things are and they own 20 different rifles and like eight different handguns um realistically you only need like four or five guns if you're serious about training and you want different capabilities realistically that's really all you need and then just get to work and be good with your stuff so this gun but as far as training with this gun goes I have four important components I have a gun that shoots a bullet I have a scope with a tree and a mil reticle I can use for ranging and shooting I have a bubble level so I know if the gun is level I'm not just relying on uh my eye with the Horizon and I have a bipod uh with these four pieces of equipment I can now start training at the 100 meter line I can start training on targets that are a lot further I can take this to a match right now um at K&M I don't need a ton of extra stuff to go and start shooting this gun right now the next piece of the puzzle that is very important is ammunition so let's go grab some pick which ammunition we're going to shoot and then we're going to talk about ballistic calculations and coming up with a rough dope card so let's go check out ammunition see what we have uh this is all 65 different match ammo types um okay this is all 65 so more we have some barns uh Barnes tips these are cool they make some cool ammo for people uh we'll keep looking for 65 I want to find it all okay here's SMB 65 now here's the fun part so I plan on shooting a little bit of ammo one thing you don't want to do when you start getting into precision shooting is swapping ammo all the time when you're shooting an AR 15 inside of 25 M and you're shooting reload brass free ammunitions one week PMC the next you know you're just grabbing whatever is the cheapest deal not a problem your zero is not going to be affected that much but when you start shooting a Precision gun musle velocity changes uh your point of impact changes like dramatically um potentially uh at distance that that those little inaccuracies will begin to magnify you know up to 500 plus meters so you kind of want to like pick an ammo and stick with it um when it comes time to swap ammo that means chronowing it or truing it figuring out the muscle velocity for that round confirming zero adjusting your scope to that particular ammo and then continuing from there so I'm going to pick a couple different ammos to take but the main ammo I have to train with is either the federal CU I have a lot of it or this SMB um so this is 140 grain um I don't know what the not Sierra match King oh it's a soft point um I don't know why I bought this I've got some penetrated rounds no um I don't know we'll we'll take we'll probably take this this will be good training ammo probably um so we'll take the SMB and I'll probably take the Winchester possibly one other but we'll plan on shooting this ammo so we're going to take a box with us this is important one of the most important things with a precision rifle is knowing the muzzle velocity of what you are shooting so that you could build out an accurate dope card with holds wind holds uh so you know where you need to aim in order to shoot the target now you can obviously mortar a Target like I used to do in some of my older videos where I would just sort of guess like oh I'll just hold the three hash like in a video game shoot see the impact usually rely on someone else to see it adjust shoot shoot shoot finally get a hit and then be like oh it was like three and a half was you know to get a hit uh that's not great um optimally what you want to do is get a chronograph this costs money though you want to get a Chrono like the Garmin zero position that near the muzzle shoot the bullet it tells you exactly how fast the bullet's coming out you shoot a group of 10 it gives you an average muzzle velocity which is what you'll use in your ballistic calculator it'll also give you your spread from your hottest round to your coldest round your standard deviation all that good information which is important to know as you are selecting ammunition for a gun however we're going to build this gun out the budget way and the way we're going to do that is we're going to use a free app instead of using uh a Kestrel which is how I normally do this uh these are like $800 these are like 700 I think so both of these devices are expensive I'm going to do all this without um although you should get these eventually if you're going to be doing this so what we what we need are two things we need a muzzle velocity to start with which we're going to use from the box and a ballistic app I'm going to use the ab Quantum app um this just got a big update I believe it's seems very scary at first like there's a lot going on but basically what we're going to do is we're going to create a gun profile plus I'm going to call this what is this oh the rpr I'm also going to say what ammo SB 140 so then there's bullet Library bullet Library oh I have to pick the caliber I'm an idiot 65 celier and bow Uh crap they only have BT rounds oh that's fine we'll do that one we're going to say check the box sometimes they say use G7 use g g G1 um t7 screw it okay uh uh buzzle [Music] velocity this is where we're just going to punch in what they have here which is uh 2658 it will it'll be plus or minus that to give muzzle velocities for different distances that's nice it's PR cool uh no BC data that's all right twist rate this is a one8 gun sight height so using my trusty ruler 275 to Center this is very important for ensuring your ballistic calculation is good again I haven't spent any money this app's free um as I'm setting this up so I don't have to just do guessing uh right hand twist yes imrad select rifle scope this app allows you to select a rifle scope and actually see where where you will hold in relation to the reticle which is really cool they seem to have most popular brands so I'm going to come in here and select my optic I've never done this before so this is new for me uh I mean I I kind of know how it's going to work but I've never actually seen this um so mil XT nx8 F1 uh we won't do MV all that okay so once I have the data inputed the type of bullet hopefully you can pick the exact bullet I can't because they don't have this soft tip bullet in uh the the app which will give me the length of the bullet the ballistic of efficiency of it um you know this seems complicated it really isn't that much you just have to make sure you're getting the selecting the right bullet type um muzzle velocity that's the important one we're going to zero at 100 uh meters which I want to select somehow I have to change that later um side Heights 275 very important my twist rate is eight it's going to determine some stuffs and we're good rpr 65 sp40 go to the bottom save going to select this as my active and now uh I could go into here and I could start calculating a solution I can be like you know what I want to Target at 320 yards I want to change this to meters but we'll figure that out later and it tells me you're going to hold like 135 now what's important to know here is I just punched in muzzle velocity off of this it rarely is accurate it's in the ballpark this could be plus or minus 100 ft per second so what we're going to do when we get to the range is there's two things you can do you can go off of this muzzle velocity by default if you have a far Target at your range you could do What's called truing the gun where you set that distance let's say it's 700 M usually 800 to 1,000 is what people are doing 900 is kind of The Sweet Spot but let's say you have 600 M you punch in 600 I'll say 600 yards in this case done that tells me it's going going to be 4.42 I haven't put in any environmentals it's probably pulling from my local weather is what my hold's going to be so then in that position I'm at you know 600 yards I dial 44 CU I want the most precise shot possible I shoot the target and I see is it dead on or is it completely off paper low or high and then I start playing with my turret to see exactly what hold it will be to smack that Target at that distance if it's 4.6 then that means my muscle velocity is not what the program is telling me I need to adjust it there should be a feature in here called Cal MV where you calibrate your muscle velocity where you then type in hey my hold was actually 4.9 and then it will do the math like reverse engineer what 4.9 would be with this bullet and give you the new muzzle velocity so that's TR you can do all that without one of these you just need a baseline to start with which you can use uh the Box data for and then make your adjustments the nice thing though is if you're shooting like a DMR um this would have been good for me even just taking box data and putting it in an app and then printing off my dope card that would have been so much more accurate and helpful than me just guessing on targets so even if you can't shoot your gun even if you don't have a Chrono at least do this so you know roughly what's going on with the rifle it'll get you in the ballpark it's probably minute of man it'll be okay optimally though we want to use a Chrono we want to check each lot of ammunition we want to do a few extra steps to ensure that when this tells me 4.5 and I dial 4.5 I'm going to hit exactly where I'm aiming provided all other variables and the wind and stuff like that are are taken into account um so that's the basic way of figuring out dope for uh a rifle just going off of this going off of a free app now I can print off a dope card to put on the stock if I want to look goofy um or I'll wear it on my wrist which is way more helpful and I can begin shooting off of this veloc vity tomorrow please don't die all right so I've been zeroing and breaking in the rifle now I will say I'm not doing a crazy Barrel break-in procedure shoot one round clean the barrel shoot two rounds clean the barrel shoot you know all of that and there's lots of opinions out there on what is a proper Barrel breakthrough or Breakin process and then you have companies like proof research who say that that's there's no such thing and you should just shoot the gun and do the things so what I'm doing right now is I'm uh zeroing the gun making sure everything uh works properly and I'm trying to get the gun to 80 rounds uh 80 to 100 rounds so that the barrel is properly fouled up so that I'm getting a more accurate understanding of the muzzle velocity muzzle velocity when I go to Range to tr it and shooting that many rounds will allow any imperfections in the barrel any burs any like weird little things to potentially get blasted out of the barrel and I have seen that happen on guns where they begin really inaccurate you know inside of 20 30 rounds then all of a sudden the groups tighten up so uh that's what I'm doing right now I have a couple more mags to shoot through to get to 80 before we start crewing the rifle and then we'll begin with all of our drills and fun stuff so we're going to start at 100 m before my gun is fully completed with this process I can train it 100 m on bullseyes on little circles so I'm going to be using the SG Concepts gambling for points Target which is one of my favorites just to start building some confidence with this rifle seeing what it's doing and boosting some of that round count so I can get into TR here in a little bit left inact steel body 2 and2 impact k y 2 and A2 Impact Center cool so what I just did right there is um I had 20 rounds there's so much Mirage shooting at the 100 that I was like screw it I'm just going to come over and start shooting stuff so without knowing holds on anything I just cleaned all the steel that we have down range out to 400 m which it's close right uh but there were two away gongs and then the kyl rack big plate uh the next plate the fourth biggest the middle one I was just low I think my hold needed actually be like 28 uh to engage that steel at 400 but I don't know that so I was just kind of guesstimating just shooting stuff on reduced C zones and gongs and it worked so that's very cool but now the gun should be fouled up enough that we can go all the way back and we can actually true on the far steel and see what our muzzle velocity is and then build a dope card for this gun and then start to start shoting some cool stuff so let's go figure out what that is so we are here at about 560 M this is about as far as I can get on my range to true the rifle and I want to reiterate that I am doing all this without a Castrol which is expensive and without a chronograph which is also expensive so if you are unwilling to Pony up the that kind of money which is like $1,600 for both or something like that um you can still set up a gun without any of that I have the ab Quantum app on my phone and I'm actually screen recording right now so that you guys can see exactly what I see and what I have uh I set up the gun profile in the Armory yesterday but what's really convenient is I can pull environmentals from my phone into the app as I'm creating my range card because the environmentals will dictate some changes to my hold and to what the bullet is doing down range so it's 35° right now uh humidity it's very humid it's like 83% it is freezing out right now um pressure 29.6 7 okay cool uh 1,200 ft uh sea level you know stuff there's Brandon so now I have environmentals affecting my data which is good and so now what I need to do is get an accurate distance so I would say this is a pretty necessary expense if you are getting into long range is some sort of Laser Rangefinder this is the Sig kilo SI 5K I don't believe this has any sort of uh ballistic calculations inside but that's okay I just need to pull range and then I can go into here or look at my card and see what I need to do so using this sucker I want to be as accurate as possible 582 so then I can come into here I can scroll my range card to see what's going on but instead all right so you'll see the top one which is Target a I have um I have five different targets a through e on here uh it's telling me 4.99 for my hold so that's fun I'm just going to do five excellent I can scroll to the right and I want to make sure it's in meters I'm ranging in meters sweet definitely want to not mess that up um I can scroll to the right see what my uh velocity my remaining velocity what it's going to be uh probably time of flight in here so one second time of flight we have a little bit of wind right now if I want to figure out kind of what my wind hold will be I can set where the wind's coming from it's about it's actually almost full value which for my range is kind of wild it it's pretty slight I'm just going to give myself a bracket of 3 to five feels like yeah that sounds about right um so I'm going to have a 6 s hold at the most and a04 hold kind of it you know at the least so 05 we'll just send it and see what happens uh but the main thing we're looking for it's not so much windage that we care about in this case we care about elevation that's what we're really trying to true the wind is going to be all over the place so five let's see if this is right using muzzle velocity of what was the muzzle velocity the muzzle velocity is 2658 from the box which won't be right but that's okay so we dialed so we'll be holding Center all right we were low I saw it Holding Center Point okay sweet we are low by like. three so we're going to come up three up one I think it's going to be a five5 that's an impact on the edge uh I want to say definitely there's some wind down there don't think it's my zero okay yeah five five is right all right cool yeah so 55 so it's not 5 Ms to hit at that line where it needs to at this distance it's 5.5 so I'm considerably slower than 26 58 26 whatever it is uh so this ammo is not fast I don't think I can do a cal MV so I think I'm just going to have to guess and then go back and forth and see what muscle velocity would make me dial 5 and 1 half to shoot a Target at that distance so going into our gun profile we're going to change muzzle velocity I'm sure you can Cal MV if you pay money for this app but I'm going to do it manually 2658 I'm going to say say 2600 to start zero range 100 m thank you save changes back to shoot 52 so that just came up to 5'2 I need that to say 55 so I'm going to go back into my weapon edit come down down to muzzle velocity I'm going to say 25 65 that is slow shoot 245 very close I'm just going to tweak it a little bit am I [ __ ] two 25 58 save changes shoot 5.49 good enough okay so based on what I just did my muscle velocity is actually probably 2558 and if we want to have some fun I could throw the Garment on here and double check to see how accurate what I just did was um you know with what's going on um but this should be pretty good from here let's lay a few targets and let's double check our work with this other block on a few different targets and see what we're at so we're going to go back down to zero very important and we're going to use our Target card here on the app again this app's actually pretty dope for it being free and we're going to lay a bunch of targets punch them in here we'll go left to right so first Target is a Gong at 458 Target B 240 and then the far Target will be five 82 so there we have our kind of Target engagement card uh first Target's 458 we'll go left to right 475 504 240 582 and I'll dial on all these to double check that the musle blo has put in the gun is correct and so we should have some fun doing this that was a hit took a second 50442 okay while from here oh my gosh this is wild ah I missed left all right next Target I hit three of the KY LS it's pretty cool 240 one mil hostage plate nicked it oh I can't even see the hostage next Target 58255 impact next Target oh left side yes so this app has a funny feature it's free to begin with there are some features you are not allowed to have until you pay money one of those features is when you build a range card you can't go past 850 M so you are capped you if you want to shoot far you have to pay is how this works um I'm not sure if the accuracy first stuff is in here either it might be like speed drop calculating speed drop and quick win stuff like that um but 850 is fine um from the last match I went out to 825 uh because after that you want to do some different stuff anyway so um this is an Under Armour uh quarterback sleeve for those of you that ask uh it's very comfortable and most importantly it fits a full index card using an index index card I'm going to clone my previous card and and here's another thing that I'm I'm doing in this app I can set uh some wind so I went ahead and set 4 mph and 8 mph wind I selected 90° so it's full value so it will it'll screw me the most and again I'm building this whole dope card off of these temperature like this sea level this temperature this humidity it's dropped a little bit um if it's summer a lot of these numbers are going to change at the further distances and I'll make a different dope card off of those environmental conditions or if I go somewhere else um but what this gives me is I have my elevation I'm going to copy down into my dope card but I also have my wind that I can write down as a reference um this is something I didn't used to do but I'm doing on all dope cards from here on out it just gives me a ballpark of okay at this distance I got to hold 0 4ish if there's a lot of wind um or if there's not very much and if there's a lot of wind may have to hold up to one uh this particular distance so I'm going to copy all that down this does take a second do [Music] [Music] w ah okay that sucks [Music] that [Music] [Music] there we go you don't spin oh no you're a ha one for one on everything this gun kind of this gun kind of crushes and that was all just like you know no lazing or anything just me kind of guessing I've shot on this range a lot though but yeah gong two away gongs humanoids SE zones [Applause] everything best part about the gun 20 round sr25 M 110 magazines [Applause] all right I don't know why there we go [Applause] [Applause] yeah super cool so this concludes my evaluation of the Ruger rpr chambered in 65 creedmore now before I go any further I know there's people who are probably wondering like well what exactly are you evaluating what is the purpose of this evaluation are you looking at this as a um you know Second Amendment related you know weapon that civilians should own or is this are you looking at this as a training rifle for people to begin their precision shooting Journey or are you just evaluating this as a gun product or did Ruger send you the gun and you're being paid under the table uh the answer is no Ruger did not send this rifle to us and I don't know anyone from Ruger um I'm sure people have emailed us before uh to the company but um no my interest in looking at this rifle was purely from a standpoint of there are lots of you guys that are interested in getting into precision shooting you're interested in getting into long range shooting you have an AR-15 or you probably have like eight AR-15s uh in all sorts of different barrel lengths because you know after you see a YouTube video from a certain YouTuber uh you now think that barrel length is the greatest thing ever and you go and buy one I'm being a little fous but there are plenty of you out there who've done this and so you have eight a15s and now you're starting to see some folks getting to long range it looks like a lot of fun that's because it is and you want to dip your toes into it you don't know where to start so I was looking at this rifle to see is this a good gun to recommend to people as a first bolt gun as a first precision rifle to begin training on you know half MOA circles at 100 m on you know two MOA gongs at 400 m uh even taking it to a PRS match which I have not done with this rifle yet uh and the answer is this is absolutely a great gun for that and you didn't need to watch a video from us to you know see if that's the case this is a rifle that has been proven to be um you know highly successful in the hands of PRS Shooters and lots of people out there who've started their Journey getting into precision shooting and a lot of people started with this rifle because this rifle offers a lot of U modern you know amenities that people want in a sort of military style bolt gun uh that don't exist for a lot of the hunting rifles out there uh the fact that I have a folding stock right out of the gate so if I'm throwing this into an Everly stock bag or it's just I'm transporting it in my vehicle or in a rifle bag it's just a little bit easier to you know run around with or if I'm flying with it for example um the fact that I have a built-in Arco rail onto the for end uh super convenient I don't have to add a section of like mlock or if I have some sort of you know hunting style rifle I probably can't put ARCA on that rifle at all so if I ever want to use uh some really cool uh bipod for shooting on uh weird obstacles and weird barricades you know now I can actually do that I could slide this to the you know to the front I can shoot off of something small um or if I have a tripod like this really right stuff tripod back here well now I can clip into that directly um and the gun is just future proofed for uh further upgrades that I can buy uh so overall I've been really impressed with this gun and one thing that I look for in rifles right now this is kind of a a newer standard for me is uh when we buy a rifle that we're filming a YouTube video on sort of figuring out is this just going to be a YouTube gun that goes into one of these cages on the side and never sees the light of day again or is this going to be a training gun that goes to one of our lockers or even into my locker where I'm going to grab this gun on a regular basis and take it to the range for my personal training and the answer is this is absolutely a gun that is going to go into my cage or in the sniper rifle cage over there and is going to go to the range much more often this is not just going to be a YouTube gun for us this has been a excellent rifle to train with over the last month um I like the features that it has I like the smoothness of the bolt and my favorite feature of all is the fact that it takes standard sr25 m110 magazines so let's talk about that for a second so this is a cool bolt gun like I mentioned at the beginning because of the standard uh pmags that it can accommodate it can also use a ICS magazines like this accurate mag um as well as the MDT that I have here in a MAG pouch um but I actually had some feeding issues with these because they wobble around in the mag well now I'm sure there's like some spacers and stuff you can get to like fix that um but these are also kind of expensive I think these are like $60 each something like that uh whereas a 20 round pag I think these are like 20 bucks uh and I can slam this sucker in there and if I'm shooting a PRS stage which is like 12 rounds well I don't ever have to do a Reload pretty sure they let you use these magazines then the other thing is for those of you that are interested in training uh in with equipment um you're interested in you know throwing on a plit carrier and shooting some drills on barricades maybe wearing a helmet uh you know you've seen the photos from the usao sniper comp and you're all inspired and so you want to use your actual kit with your you know sniper rifle um the nice thing with these magazines is uh these are just a lot more convenient to stuff into a MAG pouch like this triple mag placard that I have on our plate carrier um I can actually get to this magazine and reload into my bolt gun a lot easier than if I take a traditional AIC magazine stuff it into this pouch and it falls all the way into the bottom um I can still get to it and grab the lip but it's just not as convenient as running a 20 round magazine so that's my favorite feature with this rifle is um the ease of use with other magazines we have a lot of AR10 here in the Armory I've got a personal sein sp10m which uses the same magazines so the fact that I could just share mags across platforms with this gun I just think is super cool now my video on this rifle is probably one of the few that isn't getting crazy deep into groupings and how accurate the rifle is uh and that's because I'm just not a big fan of that uh outside of just making sure the gun is mechanically capable of allowing me to train you know it's within in this case it's got to be within at least one MOA uh hopefully a little bit better uh but if this gun is doing one M MOA or so I can take it I can train I can take it to matches I can do things with it um so what I like to do is 10 shot groups and I like to do it when the gun is a little bit dirty because realistically none of us are shooting a perfectly clean rifle in training uh or most people in ma a match format uh we're taking guns that are a little dirty that have some fowling and we're shooting the guns that way so that is how I like to evaluate my weapons I'm not doing groups when the Barrel's perfectly clean so what I did for this gun is I bore sank like three times and then I just quit cuz it was Dumb and boring um probably didn't do anything for the Barrel in between each Salvo of 10 shots I added the barrel cooler the rifle cool Barrel cooler for Magneto uh to help cool the barrel as I walk down to you know Mark up the Target and come back it's between 3 and 5 minutes uh just to get the gun back to kind of normal as much as possible before going to the next 10 rounds and I chronoed between every single set um so my first group which I was really happy with um was with the SB 1440 and because I'm shooting 10 shot groups that obviously creates a lot more room for error and me pulling a shot human error I I'm prone it's there was a lot of Mirage as well um just with the nature of our range uh but you'll see here besides this one shot up here um basically everything's just in the same hole um which I was really happy with when I did this I was just like okay this gun can play I'm pretty happy with that I'm not going to sit here all day trying to dial in no flyers and like the perfect 10 shot group like I'm not going to do that that's that's me repping out the same thing 10 times I'm going to goof it at least once or twice um most people will it's why a lot of people don't do 10 shot groups um but you'll see here like this is a very nice group and then the other thing that I thought was really interesting um when I began this whole process I talked about going off of box data for to get some muzzle velocity to start with and then immediately start training and shooting and the Box data for this ammunition is 2658 uh you know muzzle velocity and the funny thing is as I Chrono this ammo on two separate occasions the first one I got was 2621 so a little bit less than the Box ammo but the next one was 2676 so it's a little bit High hotter than this ammunition which means this ammunition is positioned nicely in the middle so if I had just gone off of this box data built out a dope card off of that started shooting I would have been just fine um ultimately I tried to Che the gun at 500 meters I don't think it was a very accurate TR and I got 2558 it was also really cold that day there were some temp changes that would probably come up a little bit um but if I had just gone off the Box data I would have been just fine I would have had a productive time on the range and then someday I could Chrono off of a friends you know garmenting zero U or I could true on a range that has you know 800 M or so and then actually dial the gun in a little bit more but it's cool to see that going off of box data you can be pretty close and definitely close enough to allow you to start training so I'm going to keep training with this particular rifle uh it'll live in one of these cages but I am also going to start looking for the next Factory bolt gun to AC chire and then start to build up a a library of sorts of different bolt guns uh so that we can you know make proper recommendations or more effective recommendations um the next one uh is probably going to be the one of the Daniel defenses uh the Sig cross possibly the arrow although I'm not sure what's going on with their company right now uh and then there's a couple others out there that we could look into uh but if you guys have a suggestion go ahead and let us know in the comments if there is and the criteria is some sort of factory not a crazy customer buol gun under $2,000 um that is definitely a little bit easier to get into is also available something that people can buy at any time it's in stock basically everywhere at all times uh chambered in 65 creedmore is preferable um there's a lot of really cool bolt guns out there that are Customs that are kind of hard to get a lot of the seein guns sadly are hard to get now uh because they're super popular uh so I am looking for guns that are out there in quantity that people can grab at any time um and the Ruger rpr fits that CR IA which is what drew me to it and I look forward to testing out those rifles shooting them adding them here to the Armory and if you guys are interested in seeing this rifle in more content or you're interested in seeing this in action go follow our training Channel where I will continue to use this rifle for various uh precision shooting drills um this gun will get added to the uh collection that we use for that channel um as well as some of the other bolt guns that I have personally and I'll see you guys there thanks for watching he probably not Co sure about whatever is
