Overview
This guide explains how to delete, switch, or add user profiles on compatible Android devices, and outlines the different types of user profiles available.
Deleting or Switching Users
- Only the primary user can delete other user profiles from the device through Settings > System > Multiple users.
- Non-primary users can remove their own profile via a similar process; this action cannot be undone.
- After a user profile is deleted, the device automatically switches to the owner's profile.
- To switch profiles, swipe down from the home screen, tap the user icon, and choose the desired user.
- On Android Go, tap Switch user from the home screen and select a different user.
Adding or Updating Users
- Only the device owner can add or update user profiles.
- To add a user, go to Settings > System > Multiple users, select Add user, enter the name, and follow setup prompts.
- If the new user is present, select Set up now to configure their account; if not, setup can be completed later.
- To update your profile, change your name or profile picture in the Multiple users section.
- You can enable phone call and SMS capabilities for specific user profiles in the Multiple users settings.
Types of User Profiles
- Regular users have their own apps, accounts, and settings but are not device owners.
- Guest profiles provide temporary access with an easily removable space.
- Accounts allow access to specific Google services using a unique login.
- Restricted profiles (tablets only) limit features and content available to the user.
- Child users allow parental management through Google Family Link.
