PTE Core Test Taker Handbook

Overview

• PTE Core: A secure, computer-based test assessing listening, reading, speaking, and writing in everyday English.
• Purpose: Evaluates language ability for general English requirements by government departments and organizations.
• Preparation: Encouraged for all test takers, even native speakers.

Preparation

• Resources:

  • Offline practice test with sample responses.

Booking Your Test

• Steps:
  1. Check test availability and find a seat.
  2. Create myPTE account.
  3. Ensure personal details match your ID.
  4. Make an appointment and complete the purchase.
• Payment: Full payment required. Various payment methods depending on country.

Cancellation and Rescheduling

• Rescheduling: Free if more than 14 days before the test. Not possible within 14 days.
• Cancellation: Full refund if canceled 14 days before. 50% refund from 13-7 days. No refund within 7 days.
• Exceptions: Possible rescheduling due to medical or family emergencies.

Test Day

• Arrival: At least 30 minutes early. Must sign in and agree to the Test Taker Agreement.
• Identification: Valid passport required. Details must match test registration.
• Test Center Rules: No personal items in the test room. Monitored via CCTV.

During the Test

• Process:
  • Assigned a computer with headphones and a microphone.
  • Erasable whiteboard and pens provided.
  • Cannot re-record responses.
  • Speaking section involves recording into a microphone.
• Breaks: No scheduled breaks. Unscheduled breaks do not stop the test clock.

After the Test

• Score Report:
  • Available within 5 business days.
  • Valid for 2 years.
  • Can be shared with institutions using a Score Report Code (SRC).
• Retake Policy: Can book after receiving last test scores. Limited to 12 times a year.

Improving Scores

• Resources: Access to tips and recommendations for improving performance.
• Skills Profile: Detailed insights into performance, tailored improvement strategies.

Terms and Conditions

• General: Terms incorporated into the contract with Pearson.
• Privacy: Personal data collected, stored securely, used per privacy policy.
