Correlation is not causation. [Music] When the beautiful ones show their faces, ice cream sales increase. Unfortunately, the same is true for sunburn. When ice cream sales increase, we can predict to some extent an increase in sunburns. There is a correlation between ice cream sales and sunburn. Does eating ice cream cause sunburn or does sunburn cause people to eat ice cream? Obviously not. Here, a third factor, the outside temperature, comes into play to explain the simultaneous increase in ice cream sales and sunburns during the summer. There is no causality between ice cream sales and sunburn. In short, on the beach or in economics, correlation does not necessarily imply causation.
