Discussion on Attack on Titan No Requiem

Welcome back everyone and it's time to go BOOOOM How's the? Today we are talking about the new Attack on Titan ending Nani? Well obviously it's not from Isayama himself But a fan ending that stays true to the canon of the Attack on Titan story I'm confused, I'm confused right now G Oh you didn't know Attack on Titan's ending was altered at the end and completely butchered? Nope Then you must watch my extensive video analysis discussing everything that went wrong with the original ending yeah that The list of issues with the original ending is gaining more and more problem as time moves on, due to the way the time travel aspect was handled. Since, as we all know, Chapter 139 became the skeleton of the entire story, where Eren admitted he didn't know what he was doing. However, that is where AOT No Requiem steps in, and that is their aim. It's thematically correcting all the plot holes and objectives after things turn south from Chapter 137 onwards. It basically follows the ending we all saw in the Akatsuki no Wequim music video. Okay, okay, if you don't get it, that's why I'm here. I'll give our opinion and explain everything that went down in AOT no Wequim Part 2 and how it attempts to fix the original chapters of 137 to 139. Now, again, no one is trying to disrespect Isayama. We support his work, I love AOT, and we all only hope for the best for him. especially since he himself supports fan projects which he stated in an interview. Rather this project stems from passion and was made by fans that have such a huge love for the series that they decided to spend their talents and hard work to make something that is non-profit to appease fans that want the original ending Isayama intended but changed last minute. This is an ending to please a certain group of fans. Now as I've said this is part 2. Please watch part 1 being displayed right now and come back to binge watch this video so that you can enjoy the story and understand what the frick I'm gonna say. So part 2 begins with child Eren we see from chapter 1. Remember Eren was having a long dream under the tree where he woke up crying and remembered a different version of Mikasa. Attack on Titan Requiem part 1 picks the cyclic nature of the original story where Eren with the founding Titan powers explains to his younger self the truth regarding the origin of the worm, the suffering of Yume Fritz, the past, and their ultimate goal for freedom. Armin entered the path's world at the end of part 1, which is linked back to the original chapter 136, where he was eaten by Yemir Fritz. The innocence of younger Eren is then beautifully portrayed through his expressions and a dialogue regarding their original dream from childhood. Eren will not know the complete truth until his memories return when he kisses his story's hand. He sees an older Armin and expresses the joy of their dream coming true, which was to go beyond the walls to see the unseen. As this chapter focuses on the clash of ideologies, the writing is great because the smaller version of Eren represents Armin's shared philosophy from the past, the middle ground of a civilian that is naive to the truth, just like the rest of the world Armin has chosen to save. However, Armin realizes that their original goal was wrong and that Eren from a young age was corrupted, almost like a monster that he was blind in seeing, because Eren's claim of wanting to destroy their enemies stemmed from childhood which correlated in his his determination for freedom. Armin thinks this is wrong. With the new information he gained throughout his journey, he comes to understand that all humans share the same pain and are equal. Humans shouldn't go through what they did as children since they are ignorant of the truth. Eren would be making people lose their parents just as he did, therefore making the vicious scars run deep within the next generation. On the other hand, Eren is more inclined to believe the rumbling is the only way, as his journey pushed him into this position. Remember in part 1, we were told that Eren tried to find any path or way to stop the rumbling from occurring using the founding titan powers. In the end, Eren finds out that there is only one way that could achieve the goal humanity needs. There is only one path that can free Ymir Fritz, destroy all titans on earth, achieve his personal goal of freedom, and end the shackled fate of all Eldian people. So think about Doctor Strange in Infinity War where he told Iron Man there's only one timeline that they can play out to defeat Thanos. Armin walks away from child Eren as he shouts out to him that he will never accept this and the artists of AOT Norequin purposely make Armin use the same face of anger as Eren from chapter 121. So this is to symbolically show their parallels and contrasting ideologies as he asks Eren what part of En- Part 2 of this new ending heavily focuses on the clash of ideals between the main protagonists, as neither of them are morally correct depending on your stance. Eren in chapter 121 used the same expression as Armin after hearing Frieda restate that as long as they remain ignorant and accept the world's rage, Eldians will be the only ones having to die. This of course enraged Eren because he wants to free his people and land. He hates the fact that Eldians are forcefully sacrificed all for the result of being called devils for over 2000 years for a sin that they did not commit for a war that they do not want and their alien leaders expect them and force them to stay ignorant whilst armin he gets angry clashing with erin's actions that he is using the rumbling for his own selfish desire of freedom which in my opinion it kind of doesn't make any sense in the bigger picture because armin is clearly ignorant of erin's knowledge he doesn't possess the powers and memories that erin has Technically speaking, Eren isn't even human at this point. transcends the mind and planetary physics and meaning. He's almost like a commie or a prophet. So in some twisted way, Eren is a necessary evil that has to free Ymir from the profs so that humanity can move on from using titan powers ever again. Remember that the curse of Ymir cannot be removed without her being free. This is because we know Ymir Fritz wants to be free and loved just like every other human as Armin puts it. On top of that, Armin in the original ending doesn't even provide a viable or new solution to present to Aaron. He uses words. He's trying to use Naruto's speech no jutsu, right? So Eotino Wekuin beautifully addresses this as it portrays Eren stating this fact, that Armin and his wonderful speeches have been useless for 2000 years. It doesn't make a difference to people that are locked into their beliefs until the reality is torn down. The veil that has covered the truth from humanity has to be burnt, so that a new picture can be painted for them to see what reality truly is. This is why in the chapter we see Eren remember- Tybur and his speech when he invaded Mali. Tybur was creating mass hysteria and propaganda with the lies that were told throughout history Which proved his point that words can only go so far Living under the oppression of someone else should never be accepted according to Eren since the motif throughout the entire series is Regarding this aspect that we all share remember when Eren loses his control of his Titan in the trust arc Armin stabs him and asks him why he seeks freedom outside the walls. He answers It's my birthright because I was born into this world. This is why it makes sense that Eren is determined to build Eldia on top of blood and end all war from then on. So going back to the chapter, Armin thinks that any answer will be better than the one Eren has chosen. That he's simply a slave to his own selfish desire for Eldia to prosper. However, Eren rebuttals stating that they didn't wage this war for him, the world did. And rightfully so. In their eyes, they will always be devils no matter what because Eldians possess the power to inherit titans and as long as that mentality persists nothing can be resolved words won't be able to change the truth in the eyes of the world and all the lives that died for you will have died for nothing can we just take a moment here and appreciate the art look at this shit i'm gonna say it guys i'm gonna say it this shit is Now you're probably wondering why has Armin not created a plan? What is the thematic message of this chapter? And how does it relate with the story Isayama created? Well thanks to being friends with the people that created this project, I can explain the thought process behind this chapter connecting to Isayama's overall story. So please make sure to follow AOT No Requiem on Twitter because they will give us updates for part 3. We will definitely be covering it so make sure to hit the notification bell for our channel and make sure you support us. We need your support more than ever. Smash that like button right now. We need you guys. So let's explain the role of the alliance and what Isayama intended with Armin's character. As we all know Armin and Hanj have always been the ones who considered the opportunity of using conversation to find peace between the warring nations. However, they weren't blind to the immense political undertaking their alien would soon inherit. Now that they were aware of the state of the world, they hoped to cross the ocean and find hope in explaining themselves to the world that distrusts and hates them. However, unfortunately, their expectations fail. The world would not dare listen to them. Their prejudice and fear runs far too deep. The survey called was now facing an enemy they couldn't defeat with swords or even conversation. Imminent death was coming to Paradis and their home. Throughout the four years, the only plan that made sense to buy them enough time was the 50-year partial rumbling. There was no other alternative. No other nation dared support them, and if there had been another option, it would have been brought up by now. but it wasn't. Eren then went AWOL and attacked Liberia without them which forced their hands to move immediately instead of using what little time they had left. Armin even expressed that Eren breaking their trust would come with the consequence of being sacrificed to someone they could trust. So trust already shaken and the unthinkable brought upon them, Armin was logical but still focused on giving Eren a chance to prove he's on their side. And then the rumbling started. And what does Armin do? He celebrates and he's nervous about it. He doesn't know, oh my god, what are we doing? What? But again, Eren betrays Armin's expectations. He doesn't mean to just do the partial rumbling. but the entire world. This goes in direct conflict with the spirit of the Survey Corps. They're prepared to kill monsters, regain land, but not wage war on this scale, not indiscriminately killing everyone. The Survey Corps has always been a selfless organization, willing to lay down their lives for the hope and good of people. Hange embodies the hope of peace between the lands, the very energy of protecting all life, and not selfishly drawing lines in the sand. Armin inherits this spirit. But even after Hange dies and Armin pushes onward, instead of accepting the ultimate choice to kill Eren to save the world, he believes he can still talk to Eren and stop him. Of course this fails and Armin has no choice but to consider the worst. I think one of the best improvements that Attack on Titan No Requiem has provided is definitely improving Armin's character and painting the contrast in each other's arguments due to the morally complex argument that they are having. There is no correct answer. Both are in the wrong. Eren believes in the idea that for Eldia to live, the world has to die, which is not much different from the idea that many people had to sacrifice themselves so that Armin can now be alive. Armin's existence is proof of Eren's argument being correct to some extent. However, the same goes for Eren. As Armin believes that Eren will be a hypocrite as oppressing the world's right to live, just like his world was that of a bird cage which allowed for his existence to begin with, the Marleyans created Eren through their oppression, and Eren is willing to oppress the world for the sake of Eldia. It's this duality that enhances the story so much. Like I don't know instead of being thanked for becoming a mass murderer in chapter 139 God is forgiving Thank you Jesus So when Oramun lashes out they both clash and in that anger their titan powers activate Oramun sees more memories These are the shards that were completely ignored by Isayama in the final three chapters These shards were shown to readers in chapters 120 and chapters 130 Every single memory represents something Eren has done to complete his plan of the rumbling and with it being unaddressed in the original story, it led to things not making sense at all to the fans. For example, why would Historia be asking Eren if she should have sex with the random farmer? Armin witnesses Eren's memories with Historia. The first panel shows Zeke talking to Eren during chapter 130, in which Eren was remembering his conversation with his brother regarding Mikasa's love for him and the truth behind the Ackerman clan. In the original manga, instead of thinking about Mikasa, Eren ponders upon Historia regarding his plan for the rumbling and Historia asking him if she should have a child. Eren knows he has 4 years left to live and claims he wants everyone to live long happy lives whilst showing concern about not being able to achieve his goal or being alive for his child if he doesn't conduct his plan in full. The next shard we see is Eren telling everyone that he will refuse to sacrifice Historia to become a titan and letting her future children eat her as a requirement for peace. This thematically would bring closure to the plot regarding getting children out of the forest, which was brought up by multiple characters that children are suffering the most through the cyclic nature of war that is currently the regime. For example, look at Onyankumpan explaining that children are the future and Sasha's father explaining how children need to be taken out of the forest otherwise the same history of misery is repeating over and over again. Eren understood this and that's why this sub- plot has so much meaning that he was involved in breaking this cycle. Not only that, but Eren having a child with Historia juxtaposes his brother's plan who he himself called a loser in chapter 120, as Zeke's plan is to stop Eldians from having children. Whilst Eren using his own free will to love someone like Historia to bring about a child with true freedom exemplifies his entire message of what it means to be truly free. This is why AOT No Requiem they also show a shard of Eren's grandfather. Eren's grandfather was speaking to him in Liberia without knowing. He admitted his own personal regret of being a bad father to Grisha and Faye, whilst he was forcing Marleyan ideology onto them, right? Eren is making sure he won't make the same mistakes as the previous generation, because his child will be born in a free world. Part 2 explains Historia's vulnerability with the burdens she is drowned upon by accepting the role as queen. However, she's glad she met Eren as she admits. This links back to the original story Isayama created where Eren is showing emotion being in Historia's company and they practically have mutual interests of wanting to be around each other as they both confess they feel normal and happy when they do. We then see Eren, Historia and Hange in a room trying to find more information through the past and memories but Eren pretends that it failed, that he can't understand what any of it means. This was a great way of establishing Hange having first look at the budding relationship between Eren and Historia as not just friends but as confidants, establishing small memories of other times they spent together, showing their growing connection to the readers. This also connects Eren's motivations to keep moving forward, adding another layer to his reasoning, which is love. Hange states that given everything they've learned about the world, there is still too much they don't know. Everything has been so complicated since losing Erwin and the hope that he bestowed upon everyone is dying. This is where Historia cuts Hange off and acts like a true queen, a leader and an inspiration to Eren. Just as she was before by the way in the previous arc saving him in the cave. Which Isayama the creator himself admitted that Historia brought about the biggest change in Eren's character after that scene. For example, Eren even ends up using Historia's exact same words to Ymir Fritz when meeting her in Chapter 121 to break the chains. Historia states that every challenge they have faced, they have overcame and as long as they hope, there's nothing they can't accomplish. This isn't the time for them to feel sorry for themselves. We may not have all the answers now, but we didn't need them before and we still got this far. So let's not give up. Moving on, we see the memory of Eren and Historia speaking regarding their plans for their future. An inevitable war is going to take place with a plan that is guaranteed to fail by the way due to their lack of military power and technology. Historia points out that she wants children to smile and be given a chance to live, the hope they spoke about earlier that they cling on to themselves. She states, is it selfish of me to choose who I want to be the father of my children? Because remember in the original story, Historia was going to be pregnant without choice to avoid being used by the government. This is where we see the rest of the memory shard from chapter 130. Part 2 connects the entire storyline, where Eren admits that Historia is the one that saved him that day due to being the worst girl in the world. They both decide together to have a child. This will now explain why Eren would go out of his way in his hooded disguise to witness Historia talk to the farmer, asking him to be with her. This was all a ruse to the others that do not know the truth. Historia reluctantly goes through with Eren's plan. This all ties back to her promise to Ymir, her former best friend in childhood, where she said she'd live for herself and not others. Which directly goes with Eren's ideology of everyone being free upon birth, right? I mean, why would Historia lie about the due date of her child otherwise? She lied to Levi and all the others. It's because she needed to, so that Eren wouldn't be the suspect. Historia's pregnancy conveniently falls on the day of the rumbling. and was shown once again in chapter 134 whilst it was happening to reaffirm to the readers that it's an important plot device that we should remind ourselves of. Eren's motivation is pro-natalist. He'd go through with the plan so her kid wouldn't have to suffer the consequences of becoming a tool used by the military or even face the threat of being killed by the outside world. I will now be passing the video on to Yusuf as he will explain the rest of part 2 and how it connects to the original story and fixes all the plot holes and making Eren this ultimate jag. Oh! Okay, so coming back to part 2, within Eren's memory, he finally speaks to Floch. This was a great addition, I mean in the original manga, Floch seems like a radical with no concrete evidence to believe in the devil that is Eren. He needed reaffirmation and confidence in his leader that he would be convinced that Eren would complete the plans he tells him. It's actually crucial that we need this scene with Eren and Floch to add a layer of security for his character. So Eren tells Floch his plans for the full rumbling. Block questions his intentions because if he couldn't sacrifice vice-army for Eren, how could he destroy the world? So Eren then tells Flock everything and that he hasn't told any of the others about the rumbling because they wouldn't be able to do what is necessary to save Paradis. All of this still puts Flock in doubt as he isn't sure that someone like Eren who is so sentimental is up for the task. But again, he follows the theme saying that they can't hope for a miracle either. No matter how you look at it, it's either them or us. So The flock continues to question Eren if he can truly commit an unforgivable sin. Which Eren responds that doing nothing will cause his death in five years anyways And if being a devil makes a change, he will gladly be one. He is going to save Aldia no matter what We move to another memory where Historia slaps Eren in rhetoric of Eren's self-loathing nature and not caring about dying Just like in the cave. She tells him to think about the people who love him, referring back to herself and others. Eren can't break the promise and that he should come back because she won't be able to bear the burden of going through a plan like his all on her own. They should face the repercussion together rather than ditching her. She's reminded of the people that was close to her that left her. left her. From her older half-sister Frida to her best friend Ymir. So at this point, Historia and Eren agree to have a child. This is where they keep it a secret and have an emotional moment. Floch then finds out that Historia is pregnant and gains confidence in his leader that he will go through with his plans as long as he keeps the Jaegerist regime going. Now as Armin comes out of Eren's memory he is instantly pushed away falling to the ground. Armin tears up thinking how Eren went balls deep in Historia and got her pregnant. Now following from the original story everyone knew Historia was pregnant but no one in the Attack on Titan universe except a few expected Eren to be the father. As the readers we can look at things holistically and possess knowledge that the characters don't. So Armin asks Eren why didn't he tell him about this? And if Mikasa knows, indicating that Mikasa's love for Eren wasn't really a secret between them, Eren responds saying that Armin wasn't supposed to see those memories. How did Armin see those memories? Well, we can suggest that it was due to the Titan-Shifter's connection, but before Armin slipped into these memories, something like this only happened when Eren was in contact with a royal-blooded Aldian. However, since we know Before Eren became the chosen one due to his ideals, he freed Ymir from her shackles that tied her to her descendants and the royal blood. Looking back at chapter 121, Eren made Ymir defy Zeke's royal blood for the first time which then granted him all the powers of the titans and their memories. Eren being in such an emotional state with his friend is more than likely thinking about these events which pushed him to where he is now. As Eren having a child with Historia gives a greater purpose to his actions, though it's selfish in nature, in reality, we would all want the best outcome for our own offspring and family first before the well-being of those outside of it human nature time and time again shows this hierarchy of care starting with your kids your spouse your parents your family your friends your neighbors then humanity outside of that circle it all comes down to personal affiliation and attachments in attack on titan no requiem chapter one errant seeing all the future outcomes with the found in titan's ability foresaw that this is the only option for him to achieve his dream of a good future for his child. One may think that doing this selfish action even for your own child lacks humanity but the thing is having the power of the founding Titan and the attack Titan shifted Eren's actions away from the humanistic one to resemble a godly being or even a natural catastrophe. Eren knows full well peace is unattainable due to his understanding of the memories he has access to and has even asked a few times of Armin could act as Bertoltz before, most likely testing him to see if Armin even tried to see what it's really like on the other side. But this lack of connection caused Eren to distance himself away from Armin prior to the events of Attack on Titan No Requiem. Chapter 112 can literally be seen as a foreshadowing to what Attack on Titan No Requiem is doing, when Mikasa asks his artmen why Eren is pushing them away from him, that Eren has a hidden motivation and agenda that he isn't telling them, which gradually made him change over the years. The Attack on Titan No Requiem team stitched everything up so perfectly to Isayama's writing when nothing is out of place. All of this links back to the original storyline, where Eren calling Mikasa a slave was due to him feeling that no matter what, his friends will never truly understand him. When Eren is able to fully a- access the memories after releasing Ymir from her connection to the royal blood he can see the various different directions as time is omniscient and exists in different forms all out once. This with his understanding of the world, Paradees being used as a scapegoat for the non-Aldians' hatred, Tiber declaring war and so on and so forth. History with the nature of the humans and the knowledge of the future further was augmented in his argument against Armin, that there would never be peace, no matter how much it'd be wished for by the typical person, the powers that be have already decided to wage war. But coming back to the chapter, regardless of Eren's explanation and even after learning about Eren's child, Armin still isn't convinced of Eren's choice, shouting back saying this still would not absolve him. This is because even though the memories Armin saw deepened his understanding of what Eren has to lose if he fails, it still stemmed from a selfish hypocrisy to commit the same sin, but on a grander scale, because Eren chose to kill billions for himself and his home, losing his friends in the process. Eren hiding the fact about his child and the truth of it. everything for he started the rumbling reinforced that he himself saw this hypocrisy and the reason for not revealing the truth was so he wouldn't have been called out on this. Armin feels as though Eren simply didn't trust his friends to help him come up with an alternative solution. Instead in Armin's eyes Eren condemned his own child to be the child of a monster. However Eren holds his ground against Armin knowing this saying that they were always monsters not just in the terms of being titans but devils in the eyes of the world and being with the potential capability of hurting and killing others for their own sake. Aaron literally calling Armin out on this is a playback to Armin's own actions and calculative decisions in the war against Marley. Let's not forget Armin using the titan's power He stampeded Liberio along with being involved in other murders justly or not. Even in chapter 127 The gang gathered around together going over the heinous acts they did to each other Accepting they are all devils one way or another. Isayama throughout Attack on Titan deep dived into the psychology of human beings Where each of us have a devil within us when we are pushed to our limits, we will do things no one can imagine, and some of us are even labelled devils by others either due to fear or pride. Eren's argument in Attack on Titan no Requiem is not only sound, but also portrays him to be a rational-minded person who has weighed all odds before he made such a grievous choice of the rumbling. Whereas the Eren of Isayama's Attack on Titan turned into a confused, mentally ill boy who was manipulated by Ymir to re-enact a broken love story for freedom. Eren in Attack on Titan No Requiem is not deluded and does care about his friends and family, but is constrained in action by the lack of control he has for other people. He cannot control the non-Aldians and he understands the pain and suffering they will eventually bring with the freedom they desire. In any case, It was always us vs them. Either the Eldians die off just like Zeke wanted or non-Eldians all die. Again Zeke and Eren literally are parallels of each other. Zeke portraying self-hatred and a desire of the extinction of his own race. And then we have Eren portraying the intrinsic nature to live, desiring freedom for his race and progeny. Regardless, Arvin realises that they are going in circles and that nothing will change. So questions why did Eren even bring him back to the paths? where again Eren gives a solid response saying he is finally giving the answers to all of Armin's questions and that he doesn't want to fight his friend. However, even after Eren admits not wanting to fight his best friend to the death, Armin with a bit more understanding to Eren has allowed him to find resolve in fighting Eren even if he has to kill him. Eren will not take their freedom away from them. He'll honor his choice like he always had done and allow this fight to happen. To Armin, he believes that if he doesn't stop Eren then those who died so far would have died in vain and the spirits of the scouts will be tarnished. Armin even after hearing all of Eren's arguments continues to represent humanity by being naive and wanting to see hope that the Eldians and the rest of the world can still coexist. Even though this ideal isn't backed up by anything to Armin as long as he lives through it and sticks by his own morals it doesn't really matter. Armin wants to change even if he's a monster he believes in a future where he doesn't have to be one. With that guys, that's the end of the chapter. I really did enjoy reading Attack on Titan Orecrim and I know that somehow this has become a controversial topic but if you got to the end, I'm hoping you did enjoy it just like we did. I want you lot to support the actual authors and the team behind this so they can continue on to finish this.
