  • Expressions of likes and dislikes in Japanese.

Expressing Likes and Dislikes

Likes

  • Expression: 私はがε₯½γγ§γ™ (Watashi wa inu ga suki desu) - I like dogs.
    • Structure:
      • The adjective "ε₯½γ" is used instead of the English verb "like."
      • The sentence ends with "です" to make it polite.
    • Particles:
      • は (wa): Attached to the topic of the sentence.
      • が (ga): Attached to the object of the sentence (e.g., "犬" - dog).

Dislikes

  • Expression: ε«Œγ„γ§γ™ (Kirai desu) - I hate it or dislike it.
    • Considered a strong word, similar to "hate."

Softer Expressions of Dislikes

  1. ε₯½γγ˜γ‚ƒγ‚γ‚ŠγΎγ›γ‚“ (Suki ja arimasen): I don't like it.
  2. γ‚γΎγ‚Šε₯½γγ˜γ‚ƒγ‚γ‚ŠγΎγ›γ‚“ (Amari suki ja arimasen): I don't really like it.
  3. 苦手です (Nigate desu): I'm not very good at it or not my favorite.
    • Example: η§γ―ηŠ¬γŒθ‹¦ζ‰‹γ§γ™ (Watashi wa inu ga nigate desu) - I'm not good with dogs.

Making Questions

  • Example: 犬がε₯½γγ§γ™γ‹? (Inu ga suki desu ka?) - Do you like dogs?
    • Add "か" at the end of the sentence to turn it into a question.
    • Affirmative Response: はい、ε₯½γγ§γ™ (Hai, suki desu) - Yes, I like.
    • Negative Response: γ„γ„γˆγ€ε₯½γγ˜γ‚ƒγ‚γ‚ŠγΎγ›γ‚“ (Iie, suki ja arimasen) - No, I don't like.

    • η§γ―ζΌ«η”»γŒε₯½γγ§γ™ (Watashi wa manga ga suki desu) - I like comic books.
