Lecture on Animal Tissues

Introduction

  • Topic of the third lecture: Animal Tissues
  • The first and second lectures covered cells and plant tissues respectively
  • Student issues: Difficulty in terms being explained in Hindi

Study of Tissues

  • Study of tissues: Histology

Types of Animal Tissues

  1. Epithelial Tissue (Upkala Utak)

    • Types: Squamous, Cuboidal, Columnar
    • Main function: Covering and Protection
    • Squamous Epithelium: Simple (Single Layer), Stratified (Multi-layer)
    • Location: Inner lining of the mouth, esophagus
  2. Nervous Tissue (Tanthrika Utak)

    • Function: Transmission of sense signals
  3. Muscular Tissue (Peshi Utak)

    • Types: Skeletal, Smooth, Cardiac
    • Function: Movement, Contraction, and Relaxation
    • Location: Heart, intestines, etc.
  4. Connective Tissue (Sanyoji Utak)

    • Types: Loose, Dense, Adipose, Bone, Cartilage, Fluid
    • Function: Support, Connection
    • Special Types: Tendons (connect muscle to bone), Ligaments (connect bone to bone)

Subtypes of Epithelial Tissue

  • Squamous Epithelium: Covering, Protective
  • Cuboidal Epithelium: Absorption, Secretion
  • Columnar Epithelium: Some are ciliated

Nervous Tissue

  • Neuron
  • Function: Transmission of electrical impulses

Muscular Tissue

  • Skeletal Muscle: Voluntary
  • Smooth Muscle: Involuntary
  • Cardiac Muscle: Involuntary, in the heart

Connective Tissue

  1. Loose Connective: Space filling
  2. Dense Connective: Tendons, Ligaments
  3. Adipose: Fat, Temperature insulation
  4. Bone: Hard, Calcium Phosphorus matrix
  5. Cartilage: Soft bone
  6. Fluid Connective: Blood, Lymph

Fluid Connective Tissue

  • Blood: Platelets (help in clotting), Plasma
  • Lymph: Colorless, Defense system

Questions

  • Homework: Which tissues are affected when the skin is damaged?
