Top 10 Influential Physicists in History

[Music] hello everyone this video is about the top 10 greatest physicist of all time so without any further ado let's check it out number 10 irwin schrodinger erwin schrodinger was born on august 12 1887 in vienna austria schrodinger had a wide range of interest from scientific disciplines to german poetry ever since his school years in 1906 he attended the university of vienna where he studied physics during the first world war he served as an artillery officer on the italian front schrodinger proposed his wave equation in 1926 for which he was awarded the nobel prize with paul dirac on 1933 in 1927 schrodinger moved to berlin as max planck's successor but with hitler coming to power in 1933 he decided to leave germany he found it hard to settle and work in oxford princeton and gaz with austria's annexation in 1938 he fled again to ireland where he stayed until returning to vienna schodinger is most famous for his wave equation in quantum mechanics which describes the wave function and his famous schrodinger's cat taught experiment he also contributed to statistical mechanics thermodynamics the physics of dielectrics color theory electrodynamics relativity and cosmology here is a list of what he was known for number nine paul dirac paul dirac was born on 8th august 1902 in bristol england dirac was talented but shy people joked that his vocabulary consisted of yes no and i don't know he attended the university of bristol where he received first-class honours in electrical engineering but the economic climate of the post-war depression was such that he was unable to find work as an engineer he then studied mathematics for two years at bristol university later going on to saint john's college cambridge as a research student in mathematics he received his phd in 1926 in 1932 he became the lucasian professor of mathematics at cambridge dirac made fundamental contributions to the early development of both quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics among other discoveries he formulated the deraki equation which describes the behavior of fermions and predicted the existence of antimatter dirac shared the 1933 nobel prize in physics with irwin schrodinger he made significant contributions to the reconciliation of general relativity and quantum mechanics here is a list of what he was known for number eight werner heisenberg werner heisenberg was born on 5th of december 1901 in germany he studied physics and mathematics from 1920 to 1923 at the ludwig maximilian university of munich and the university of gottingen he studied under germany's top physicist and mathematicians like arnold summerfield william nguyen max born james frank and david hilbert he received his doctorate in 1923 at munich under summerfield in 1926 he was appointed lecturer in theoretical physics at the university of copenhagen under niels bohr and in 1927 he was only 26 when he was appointed professor of theoretical physics at the university of leipzig heisenberg was one of the key pioneers of quantum mechanics he is best known for his uncertainty principle and matrix mechanics eisenberg was awarded the 1932 nobel prize in physics for the creation of quantum mechanics here is a list of what he was known for number 7 galileo galilei galileo galilei was born on 15 february 1564 in pisa italy he is regarded as the founder of modern science galileo was centuries ahead of his time he was an astronomer physicist and engineer he was known for analytical dynamics heliocentrism kinematics and observational astronomy he spent the last few years of his life under house arrest because he believed the helocentrism view rather than the more popular aristotelian geocentric view that the earth is in the center of the universe the belief at the time number six max planck max planck was born on 23rd april 1858 in germany planck was a brilliant student and graduated early at the age of 17. he was also an excellent musician plank studied at the universities of munich and berlin under kirchoff and helmholtz and received his doctorate of philosophy at munich in 1879. planck's earliest work was on the subject of thermodynamics and interests he acquired from his studies on the kirchoff whom he greatly admired he published papers on entropy thermoelectricity and on the theory of dilute solutions planck made many substantial contributions to theoretical physics but his fame as a physicist rests primarily on his role as the originator of quantum theory moreover planck was able to deduce the relationship between energy and frequency of radiation here is a list of what he was known for [Music] number five richard feynman richard phillips fireman was born in new york city on the 11th of may 1918. he studied at mit where he obtained his bsc in 1939 and at princeton university where he obtained his phd in 1942 where he achieved full marks in the maths and physics entrance exam he was a research assistant at princeton university from 1940 to 1941 professor of theoretical physics at cornell university from 1945 to 1950 visiting professor and thereafter appointed professor of theoretical physics at the california institute of technology from 1950 to 1959 feyman was known for his work in the part integral formation of quantum mechanics the theory of quantum electrodynamics for contributions to the development of quantum electrodynamics pyman received the nobel prize in physics in 1965 for the firemen joined the manhattan project to develop america's first atomic bomb and later was part of the panel that investigated the space shuttle challenger disaster here is a list of what he was known for number four niels ball niels bohr was born on 7th october 1885 in copenhagen denmark bohr made fundamental contributions to the understanding of atomic structures and quantum theory for which he received the nobel prize in physics in 1922. bohr was also a philosopher and a promoter of scientific research beau developed the bohr model of the atom in which he proposed that energy levels of electrons are discrete and that electrons revolve in stable orbits around the atomic nucleus but can jump from one energy level to another here is a list of what he is known for number three james clark maxwell james clark maxwell was born on 13 june 1831 in edinburgh scotland maxwell was a scottish mathematician and scientist responsible for the classical theory of electromagnetic radiation describing electricity magnetism and light as different manifestations of the same phenomenon for the first time maxwell's equations for electromagnetism have been called the second greatest unification in physics where the first one had been realized by isaac newton many physicists regard maxwell as the 19th century scientist having the greatest influence on 20th century physics his contributions to science are considered by many to be the same magnitude as those of isaac newton and albert einstein here is a list of what he is known for number two sir isaac newton sir isaac newton was born on the 25th of december 1642 in england newton is widely recognized as one of the greatest mathematicians and physicists and the most influential scientist of all time newton's famous book principia mathematica established classical mechanics newton formulated the loss of motion and universal gravitation that formed the dominant scientific viewpoint until it was superseded by the theory of relativity newton used his mathematical description of gravity to derive kepler's laws of planetary motion and other phenomenon furthermore newton built the first practical reflecting telescope and developed a sophisticated theory of colors based on observation that a prison separates white light into the colours of the visible spectrum here is a list of what he is known for [Music] number one albert einstein albert einstein was born on 14th march 1879 in germany einstein is widely regarded as one of the greatest scientists of all time einstein is best known for developing the theory of relativity but he also made important contributions to the development of quantum mechanics his mass energy equivalence formula e equals mg squared has been called the most famous equation he received the 1921 nobel prize in physics for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect in 1905 a year sometimes described as his miracle year einstein published four groundbreaking papers on the photoelectric effect brownian motion special relativity and demonstrated the mass energy equivalence furthermore einstein expanded his theory of special relativity to gravitational fields he published a paper on general relativity in 1916 introducing his theory of gravitation in 1917 he applied the general theory of relativity to model the structure of the universe here is a list of what he was known for before we conclude this video here are a few honorable mentions [Music] [Music] so that concludes this whole video i do hope you guys found it useful please consider giving the video a like and do drop your comments below and please consider subscribing to this channel and do check out my other
