Quiz Answers Review

Question 1

  • Network: 172.30.0.0/16
  • Requirement: 100 subnets, 500 hosts each.
  • Solution: Borrow 7 bits for subnets, resulting in a /23 prefix (255.255.254.0).

Question 2

  • Host Address: 172.21.111.201/20
  • Belonging Subnet: 172.21.96.0/20

Question 3

  • Network: 192.168.91.78/26
  • Broadcast Address: 192.168.91.127

Question 4

  • Network: 172.16.0.0/16, divided into 4 subnets.
  • Second Subnet Network Address: 172.16.64.0
  • Broadcast Address: 172.16.127.255

Question 5

  • Network: 172.30.0.0/16, subnets of 1000 hosts each.
  • Possible Subnets: 64 (borrow 6 bits)

Class A Network Subnetting Practice

Example 1

  • Network: 10.0.0.0/8
  • Requirement: 2000 subnets
  • Solution: Borrow 11 bits for subnets, resulting in a /19 prefix.
  • Hosts per Subnet: 8190

Example 2

  • PC1 Address: 10.217.182.223/11
  • Subnet Details:
    • Network Address: 10.192.0.0
    • Broadcast Address: 10.223.255.255
    • First Usable: 10.192.0.1
    • Last Usable: 10.223.255.254
    • Host Addresses: 2,097,150

Introduction to VLSM (Variable-Length Subnet Masks)

  • Allows subnets of varying sizes, more efficient than FLSM.
  • Example Network: 192.168.1.0/24 divided into 5 subnets for LANs in Tokyo and Toronto.

VLSM Steps

  1. Start with the largest subnet.
  2. Assign subsequent subnets from largest to smallest.
  3. Example subnets for Tokyo and Toronto LANs.
