[Music] in the introduction we meet the protagonist Winston Smith who is writing a diary a forbidden act in the dystopian world of 1984 Winston lives in a London controlled by Big Brother whose face is everywhere it's a bleak rundown place rife with food shortages violence in danger at every turn Winston works at the Ministry of Truth where he edits the past in order to fit the party's vision of the present during the rise in action Winston observes a dark-haired girl watching him a number of times and it turns out her name is Julia at one point Julia passes Winston a note that tells Wednesday and she loves him they rendezvous in secret and have sex in a field and their relationship becomes closer and more intimate as they embark on an affair they make love often in a room above mr. Charrington's shop mr. Charrington is a working-class person or a prole who Winston likes and trusts O'Brien a party higher up whose intelligence and cunning Winston finds admirable invites Winston to his flats to loan him a book at O'Brien's flats Winston and Julia confess they want to join the Brotherhood a groomer revolutionary group that stands against the party O'Brien asks them a series of test questions to see if they're ready and he determines that they are but then mr. Charrington arrests Winston and Julia at their room he and O'Brien have both been secret members of the thought police during the terrifying climax of 1984 O'Brien tortures Winston in the Ministry of love threatening Winston with breasts his greatest fear Oh Brian gets Winston to turn on Julia destroying his love for her and Bri his spirits during the falling action Winston and Julia meet in London without any feelings for each other Winston sits at his favorite cafe writing the equation two plus two equals five symbolizing his acceptance of the parties lies during 1984 s tragic resolution we learned that Winston has been promoted at the Ministry of Truth however he doesn't care about truth itself he finally loves Big Brother [Music]
