if we want to start reading the Bible where should we start should we start actually in Genesis chapter 1 well look that's where we're actually at today and I'm so excited to jump into this book and to just go Page by Page chapter by chapter with you because there's so much that we can learn about our God in this first chapter and ex examine ourselves too so come on in and join [Music] me hey y'all I'm Kayla welcome back to his word my walk where I'm here to bring you faith-based content to to truly help you get consistent reading the Bible to spend time with God in his word and out for walks and while you're doing dishes and while you're with your kid like all the things and right here right now we're starting the Book of Genesis and I'm so excited about it we're going to go chapter by chapter day by day just like we've gone through 16 other books of the Bible in completion on this channel so it's if it's your first time here welcome if you've been here from the start or you've in in the description as well so that you can do that but let's get right into Genesis chapter 1 brand new workbook this will take you through the first 25 chapters of Genesis there are 50 just so you know where we're headed um and my niece wanted me to give her a shout out that she helped me design the cover of this one and all the thumbnails for Genesis as well so here we go Genesis chapter 1 I'm trying not to like talk too much before we get into it here we go Genesis chapter 1 I'm reading from the New Living Translation of the Bible I have no judgment when it comes to translations I actually have a video here that can help you figure out which one's best for you okay I give you some education so you can make an informed decision for you let's go Genesis chapter 1 in the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth the Earth was formless and empty and darkness covered the Deep Waters and the spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters okay again if you're new here we read read and we slow down and we get really curious because I have a curious mind and I found that once I slow down chapter by chapter and I ask questions that some people may think are silly and some people may actually be embarrassed or ashamed to ask these kind of questions I started asking them and it started to help me in my relationship with God so in the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth the heavens and the earth now is that like how we see like up and down like do we always picture Heaven as up and Earth as down I'll tell you my nephew when my dad passed away my nephew whose room I'm in right now he loves look the drip the baseball the hats all the things because when we're traveling right we still make time to spend with God and I still make time to spend with you so but when my dad passed away and we would tell my nephew my dad's in heaven he would say like is that like higher than the airplanes see this childlike understanding of Heaven is up Earth is down in the beginning and God created the heavens and the Earth the Earth was formless and empty what does that mean formless and empty because when I think Earth I think of a globe I see green and blue right what does it mean and what would it be like the Earth was formless and empty and darkness covered the Deep Waters okay so there was Waters Darkness covered the Deep Waters there's no light yet and the spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters oh my gosh wait over the surface of the waters not way above wait what not way up where I would think Heaven is where God is no o hovering over the spirit of God not God was the spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters then God said let there be light and there was light and God saw that the light was good then he separated the light from Darkness so let's understand that there there was Darkness right it was all dark the Earth was formless and empty and darkness covered the Deep Waters it was all dark until God said let there be light and then he separated light from Darkness separated them do they coexist or are they completely separated is day night right then he separated light from Darkness God called the light day and the Darkness night and evening passed and morning came marking the first day gosh I like get so curious about timing because God is not bound by time right and we know this when we say things like God's timing is perfect and we try to tell ourselves that and we try to like understand when we get impatient or when we think we know ourselves better than he does all of that but then um evening passed and morning came marking the first day like how long was like were hours existed then like did was it always like 24 hours how were how was time counted you know was it always a like the Sun and the Moon and rotation did God put that into play right then and there and so has it been the same like time for all intents and purposes of our understanding since then I don't know then God said let their there be a space between the waters to separate the Waters of the heavens from the Waters of the earth wait a minute so everything was water but there was formless and empty Darkness covered the Deep Waters God's spirit hovered over the surface of the waters he said let there be light there was light the day then God said let there be a space between the waters to separate the waters from the heaven the Waters of the heavens from the Waters of the earth what the Waters of the heavens from the Waters of the earth we think up and down we think sky and ground but what was that actually like what are the Waters of the heavens and the Waters of the earth and clearly they were together at one point because then God said let there be a space between them and that is what happened God made this space to separate the Waters of the Earth from the Waters of the heavens God called the space sky and evening passed and morning came marking the second day okay now we see Sky now is that where we get this understanding of Heaven and Earth because the sky separates the waters in the heavens and the waters in the skies have you ever thought about water in heaven the Waters of the heaven I know we picture often times like the streets of gold what about the water then God said let the waters Beneath The Sky flow together in one into one place so dry ground may appear again we always picture the Earth or not always but I'll say I do I usually picture picture the Earth as a globe right green and the blue the land and the water but not yet then God said let the waters Beneath The Sky flow together into one place so dry ground may appear and that is what happened God called the dry ground land and the waters seas and God saw that it was good then God said oh my gosh do you see how everything is happening like God is speaking God is speaking and it happened and it happened and he said it is good and then he said something else and then it happened and then he said it is good and that is what happened God called the dry ground land and the waters seas and God saw that it was good then God God said let the let the land Sprout with vegetation every sort of seed bearing plant and trees that grow seed bearing fruit every kind like then God said let the land Sprout with vegetation like boom isn't that so crazy and then God said let the land Sprout with vegetation every sort of seed bearing plant and trees that grow seed bearing fruit these seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came right here here's a tree oh it produces apples the seeds in that fruit will produce that same kind of tree we get it and we get it still to this day um and that is what happened I almost feel like being like duh God said it and that is what happened duh let me examine myself what do I believe from what God has said and what do I struggle to believe I'm not talking okay now for all intents and purposes of like us examining ourselves we got it right we see the sky we see the land we see the vegetation we see the trees okay what about the rest of this what about the rest of the promises of God what about the rest of what God has said do I believe it can I believe it do I only believe it once I see it see this is truly if you're new here to his word my walk we examine ourselves we look at the script and we read the scripture and we believe God's word and then we examine ourselves like do I believe what God says and here I want to give you a little bit of insight um women that I that I Mentor something I help them not help them but challenge them to create is what I I like to call it a faith reset statement sometimes we get to these places where we like struggle to believe God especially if we're in a waiting season or especially whatever it is like we struggle to believe God we struggle to believe his promises we struggle to believe sometimes even that he is who he says he is right God I know you as provider but right I'm struggling so I I came to realize this in my own life and I developed what I call a faith reset statement here's the thing when God created the Earth and when God said light and then he said day and evening me if you don't know basketball was a huge part of my life I played college basketball won a National Championship went pretty far with basketball and then I worked for the NBA that was my first career for almost a decade out of college basketball is a huge part of my life and so often I picture God creating the Earth like a basketball and spinning it on his finger and it is still spinning to this day every time the sun rises and the sun sets it is still spinning his word is still true I created this as my faith reset statement because if there's any ever a time that I struggle in my faith or I struggle to believe that what God has said any of this if I struggle to believe that it's true I look outside and I say oh the sun has risen the sun has set a new day God's word is true the word he spoke in Genesis chapter 3 the word he spoke actually the very first word God spoke is still true today and I can see evidence of it that's my faith reset statement when I struggle I look outside the very first word god ever spoke I can still see that it's true today okay let's keep going uh where are we at God called let's go verse eight God called the space sky and evening passed and morning came marking the second day um oh we were we read that part let the land Sprout with vegetation every sort of seed bearing plant and trees that grow seed bearing fruit these seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came and that is what happened the land produced vegetation all sorts of seed bearing plants and trees with seed bearing fruit their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind and God saw that it was good and evening passed and morning came marking the third day then God said let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night let them be signs to Mark the seasons days and years let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth then God said let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night what lights are those because I thought it was just the sun when he said let there be light but what are these other lights let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night let them be signs to Mark the seasons days and years let these lights in the shy the sky shine down on the earth and that is what happened God made two great lights the larger one to govern the day and the smaller one to govern the night we know what they are right we see them every day for the most part like still to this day we see them God set these lights in the sky to light the Earth to govern the day and night and to separate the light from the darkness and God saw that it was good gosh here's a weird question you'll get to know me if if you're new here God said what would happen and it happened and then he saw that it was good let me go back now I'm going back to read the other ones did did they all say he saw that it was good or he said that it was good um no verse four and God saw that the light was good where else do we go the space and the sky I know I know it was again um verse where are we at verse 12 and God saw that it was good and then verse 14 God said and then God saw that it was good that's got to be significant and that's got to be something for me to look at in my life God said but then he saw that it was good he he actually saw the evidence of what he said y'all so fresh right so fresh he saw but then he he said it but then he saw that it was good he didn't just say it is good I think I've always thought thought he said it is good maybe your translation of the Bible says he said that it was good this is truly where I'm going to go to like one of my favorite resources um is biblehub.com and I can see I'll put in a verse right I'll pick one of these and say put it in there and it'll give all the different translations so I can see if it says see if it says if he saw something or he said something right you're with me okay then um then God said let the waters swarm with fish and other life let the skies be filled with birds of every kind so God created sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water and every sort of bird each producing offspring of the same kind and God saw that it was good then God blessed them saying be fruitful and multiply Let The Fish fill the Seas and let the birds multiply on the earth and evening passed and morning came marking the fifth day birds and fish birds and fish were first not like the animals weren't on that same day birds and fish came on a day first all by themselves that's so weird well I don't know if weird but I mean strategic for some purpose God is strategic in everything that he does then God said let the Earth produced every sort of animal each producing offspring of the same kind livestock small animals that Scurry along the ground and wild animals and that is what happened God made all sorts of wild animals like livestock and small animals each able to produce offspring of the same kind and God saw that it was good y'all that is so funny like I don't know funny amazing to me how many times in life have I read Genesis chapter 1 or heard it or like all the things and fresh today right now literally I read it yesterday and this morning and 10 minutes ago right here right now the said it and saw it is fresh I'm going to hold on to that one for a while I'm going to take that to my journal but look that look at what he did God said let the Earth produce every sort of animal wait let the Earth produce every sort of animal why didn't he say I'm going to create every animal poof here it is let the Earth produce what's the importance of it saying that let the Earth produce every sort of animal each producing offspring of the same kind do you ever have that argument of like what came first the chicken or the the egg clearly the chicken did and then it produced offspring of the same kind no more argument right right God produced the chicken well God said let the Earth produce the chicken and then the chicken produced of its own kind there we go and God saw that it was good then God said let us make human beings in our image to be like us wait a minute who's us who's us is this our first first mention of well it's not the first mention of the spirit because in verse two we read and the spirit of God was hovering is the spirit of God different than actually then God said spirit of God different than God there is this our first understanding of the Trinity but if we're really curious what do we understand of this this is where I want to encourage you to use the resources there's a video here that gives you four free online resources that I use all the time to help me go deeper and to study deeper an online commentary a free one is always always Linked In the description of every video to go to to help understand a little bit more when it says this then God said let us make human beings in our image to be like us they will rain over the fish in the sea the birds in the sky the livestock all the wild animals on the Earth and the small animals that Scurry along the ground so God created whom human beings in his own image in the image of God he created them male and female he created them but then it's back to just God God created human beings how come it doesn't say they created human beings how come it doesn't say the father Son and Holy Spirit how come it doesn't say God's spirit it's back to just God so when God's speaking and saying us let us make man make human beings in our own image we've got to go a little bit deeper in into that because we are the human beings right and this is where we get that right we are made in the image of God okay what is that mean what does that mean that I have what does that mean I possess what does that mean that I receive we've got to know and dig a little deeper and truly if you're new here I'm not here to give you a bunch of answers and to give you a bunch of information I'm here to help you get consistent reading God's word to actually enjoy it to actually come back to actually want to spend more time with God and dig into questions that you have okay so again I have resources here that can help you find some of those answers for yourself then um so God created human beings in his own image in the image of God he created them male and female he created them then God blessed them and said be fruitful and multiply fill the Earth and govern it Rain Over the fish in the sea the birds in the sky and all all the animals that Scurry along the ground rain over said that to humans does that mean we still get that today is this oh here's a question is this all humans or only Christians only Believers was this all humans then God blessed them and said be fruitful and multiply fill the Earth and govern it Rain Over the fish in the sea the birds in the sky and all the animals that Scurry along the the ground then God said look I have given you every seed bearing plant throughout the Earth and all the fruit trees of your food for your food sorry now let's think of context let's think of who God is speaking to right then God said um the other thing when we read the Bible let's try not to read with too much foresight and too much hindsight cuz a lot of times it's like okay well I know the story or I know what's happening like spoiler alert Jesus comes and dies right spoiler alert Eve's about to sit at eat the Apple the Apple and pass it to Adam and like we're all in trouble spoiler alert no but let's try to be right here God created male and female he created them then God blessed them and said be fruitful and multiply then God said look I have given you every seed bearing plant throughout the Earth and all the fruit trees for your food and I've given every Green plant as food for all the wild animals the birds in the sky and the small animals that Scurry along the ground everything that has life and that is what happened and that is what happened he he put the system in place he totally was like I have taken care of everything that I've created everything that oh everything that God spoke he had the plan in place for it to be taken care of for what it would eat for how it would reproduce everything that he spoke happened he saw that it was good but he had a system in place of how it would all continue on God is purposeful and God is strategic he doesn't leave any details like undone and he doesn't miss any details and he doesn't waste anything then God looked over all he had made and he saw that it was very good and he saw that it was very good does that mean like now that humans are in the mix it's very good or is this the end of him creating were humans the last thing that he created and he was like excuse me and he was like it's very good now like now very good and evening passed and morning came marking the sixth day oh my goodness like I don't want to stop right but this is how we do this here on his word my walk we go chapter by chapter and and truly my prayer is that this is not the only time that you spend with God in the day and it's actually that it's not the only time you spending with God in his word in the day but that this is just the start right this 20 30 however long this is minute that we're sitting here together reading together by the way it's so cool that we are all over the world reading reading the same thing together what unbelievable and amazing and Powerful but this is only 2% of your day so I want to challenge you to spend time with God outside of our community right here too okay in this workbook in your through the Book of Genesis workbook that my niece helped me design the cover with the mountains in there um in there you're going to get some extra insight into the Book of Genesis some extra resources and links and a structure of how to really go through this and then on each day you get two huge questions that are usually like five or six questions each and a Walk It Out Challenge that I always share with you right here so let me actually share the questions with you today okay I'll share the questions with you today um and the Walk It Out Challenge question number one for you these are what I call dig into you questions okay do I believe what God says like do I really believe what he says and what he has said what about when it comes to me being his child do I believe some things but not all do I believe what I can see but not what I can't again some of these questions I do bring up as we go through but but to really sit and think and to journal through and to write through a lot of times I get asked the question Kayla how do you go for walks with God every day what do you talk about like I often talk about going for a walk with the Lord I'm talking like no headphones like just he and I no worship music like just us what do you talk about so often I bring out these questions I read the question and then I examine myself on our walk and the thoughts and the conversation becomes between he and I thinking about situations from my past thinking about my insecurities thinking about Times Holy Spirit helped me to remember times when it was like this okay here's the second question what characteristics of what characteristics of God do I have what characteristics of God can other people see in me I am Made In His Image how do I reflect him oh we talked about this before what characteristics of God can other people see in me I challenge you before the question isn't am I representing God it's can other people recognize God in Me now here's your walk it out challenge today create a faith reset statement maybe it's the sunrise maybe it's your child maybe it's your house maybe it's peace you have what can you see on a daily basis and be reminded and reset into your faith with God for a woman that I was mentoring it became her child like every time she got she would look at her child and be like I birthed a human being like that's a miracle that reset her faith of who God is and that he is faithful to his word oh before we go let me just pray for you for us for this Community let's go God I thank you I worship you I thank you for your purposefulness for your strategies for how creative you are that you spoke and we still see it today that you spoke and we still experience it today God help us to hear your word help us to know your word help us to know your voice so that we know when you speak we can trust it and we can trust it for years and years and years and years and you will never go back on your word God I pray over the one watching right now holy spirit I pray that you reveal yourself to them in a fresh way today that you will increase their faith that whatever they are struggling with right now whatever they are being impatient and whatever they are waiting on whatever they are expecting I pray today that their faith will be reset that they will see and recognize you in a way that they had never considered before and that they will know for sure that you are a man of your word and that you will never go back on your word that what you have said is true thank you for creation thank you for creating this world thank you for creating each one of us God help us to walk out and live this all for your glory in Jesus name amen I mean even though we might know what's coming next let's keep going let's meet Adam and Eve and see what happens next [Music]
