[Music] hi guys and welcome back to my channel I hope you guys are doing absolutely fine my channel is about architecture and architecture college and about all my experience around this field so one of the very obvious questions that most of my viewers have is how to get into architecture College especially if you are an aspirant watching from India and you've watched my journey so far so in this video I'm going to be sharing with you all the examinations that you can take to get to architecture colleges in India talk about the syllabus that they have and in general what to keep in mind when you are a 12th standard student or someone who's taken a drop and are appearing for such exams to get into both government and private colleges in India well there are two prominent papers that students appear for to get into architecture colleges in India one is Nat and the second is J paper 2 and I had shared my experience of both Nat and J around 2 to 3 years back when I was in college well that's a pretty long time and I appeared for both of the exams in 2019 which was when I was in class 12th and I then started off my first year of college so if you want to know a bit about my experience about giving both Nat and J as a 12th standard student you can check out the link in the eye button or in the description I've spoken about how I studied what book I referred and what was my schedule all about also by the end of the video I'm going to be answering a few of your queries regarding both of these competitive exams and about what do I think about how one should be preparing for these exams if you are appearing in 2025 or next year or maybe after that as I mentioned before there are two prominent papers that students appear for to get into colleges in India for architecture one is Nat that is conducted by Council of architecture and the second is J paper 2 now this paper also has two types one is 2 a 2B one is for B AR and one is for B plan just a heads up a lot of questions that I get is how to do your Bachelor's in architecture from iits well if you want to do that you will have to give J paper one and then clear advance and then get into these iits to do your Bachelors so doing J paper 2 and Nat won't get you to iits they will get you to some prominent private universities and some government universities like spba or nit now first let's talk about J paper 2 this paper has three parts aptitude which is for 200 marks drawing and maths which is for 100 marks each so that is 400 marks in total now the thing is that math is very much similar to the kind of maths you get in J paper 1 so it is very important if you're appearing for this paper do solve the past paper questions for J paper 2 as well as J paper 1 now I know a lot of us generally when we study in schools in classroom 12th or colleges a lot of our friends appear for J paper 1 and then everybody is doing that Rd Sharma and everything and which is where a lot of us actually go for those Engineering coachings also I remember I was appearing for J paper 2 and I kept on explaining my parents and they would just not understand so they would you know kind of tell me that oh it's okay you could just go for that J paper one class also and uh go and do their maths and everything that will help which was not wrong actually if look back I did that maths and that kind of helped me to appear for the mathematics questions in this paper to considering my maths was really bad back in school and also in college and even today so I would really recommend you all to solve past paper maths questions from the one paper and also from the two paper which is like a no-brainer and also brush up with your 12th mathematics whether you're from state board cbsc board but I would actually recommend doing cbsc because J also people recommend doing cbsc books only so that was one thing that helped me because I was in 12th and I did my cbsc so I didn't have to you know refer other books also for preparing for mathematics now it's very important that if you're getting into architecture you have science and maths at subjects because that is how you can get into it I think a lot of years back even Commerce students could get into architecture you just needed maths and I think it was around when I gave my papers they made math science compulsory so we had PCM at least you need to have these three subjects in your 12th standard to appear for architecture exams and then get into architecture colleges now as far as I know you just need physics and maths chemistry is optional so you can take any other third subject as something to study for in 12th that would have been so much relief because I was so bad at chemistry but yeah right now to get into architecture colleges even Nat or even J for that matter you can just take P and M which is physics and Maths for aptitude it's pretty much a no-brainer that you need to go through paste questions and I cannot emphasize this enough please refer to past year questions also if you have some books that you can refer to build up your aptitude and like understand what kind of questions you can solve and what you cannot and what's your strong point do refer to some good books I would refer you some books in the description that you can just go and check out it's not sponsored just something I came across and I've heard people saying these are good books or something so you could just refer them and if you're going for classes or something they're also just kind of focus that you're doing your aptitude properly because it is for 200 marks it is quite much the make and break in this paper and it also has negative marking so make sure you're able to do that because maths and drawing are certain subjects where somebody might be good at either one of them or maybe both the thing is that with me I realized that my drawing was not not quite much at par but I could do math somehow so I decided that I would build my aptitude and then I would also focus on maths So eventually I can get decent marks and then try to cover up with my drawing let us talk about drawing which is something you also have to appear in this 3 hours long paper for some it can be a cakewalk and for some it can be very intimidating and I was in between when I was giving my paper now there are some basic bipoc that you might get asked even if you are not appearing for architecture exams if you're appearing for some B Des related exams generally they would ask perspective sketching human sketching 2D compositions logo design in general so that would be some general topics but is really important to keep in mind that J has two attempts it started since 2019 if I'm not wrong because it was since my batch we got two attempts to appear for and it is extremely important that you appare for both of the attempts and don't give any reasons that I'm not prepared or I don't think I'll do well or I'm anxious just go and give it there's no harm in giving the paper twice in a year because that really increases your chances to get more marks suppose in the first attempt you think you did not do aptitude well or you did not do maths well or you felt really anxious when you went to the exam Center because there would be so many people there and sometimes that anxiety is real let us talk about the NAT exam which is conducted by Council of architecture three times a year so well it gives you another extra chance to appear for then J which gives you two chances this paper has two bifs one would be aptitude for 120 marks and the second would be drawing for 80 marks now since 2019 or which is around 5 years in general the paper pattern for Nat has increased a lot I remember in between they had also removed drawing section from their exam paper pattern but now the drawing section has come back again with another section to it which is quite interesting and which is a newer addition since it last happened this change happened in 2024 so let us talk about that for aptitude like I have spoken in general it is very important that you look for past paper questions so do follow that in general it will be very important that you should also know about the general trends that are happening in architecture these days about the general trivia which is like what is the tallest building or which is the UNESCO world heritage site in India XY Z in general who is this famous architect or which building was designed by this famous architect these trivia points are so important so it is really important that you actually solve past paper questions and then in general keep yourself aware about these trivia and also so important that you look into building construction m material and everything just keep in mind that this paper has been organized by Council of architecture which is actually the national body in India that would certify you to become an architect once you get into college that certifies your college once you get into architecture so they will be asking you questions that they would actually consider students knowing before they get into the field it is really very important that you look into such kind of trivas and make yourself aware of such terminologies but they won't expect you to know really Niche stuff but in general everything like we say in Hindi very oer say they would just like you to know about it now I forgot to mention but for both of these papers there are some short short topics that you really need to prepare if you want to do good whether it is an aptitude or it is in drawing topics like elements of design principle of design history of architecture especially that is related to India because most of these papers they would ask about history related to Indian monuments and Indian world heritage sites in general at in 2024 they actually had a question where they gave you foam shapes like in black color or something and they wanted to make a 3D composition which students will do it during the exam and then give that as a submission now that was a really interesting addition I must say I think it will happen in 2025 also or maybe even after after that since a lot of the times the NAT test paper pattern has really changed and I don't think they will change it again but if that question comes up again it is really interesting and I will tell you all why especially in first year of architecture we are asked to do such kind of assignments where you know we take shapes or we take these cardboard pieces and we cut them into shapes or we make these shapes manually and then we make these compositions these are generally topics that we cover in b basic design or principle of design where you use Rhythm or you use repetition something like that to create patterns that are interesting it really builds your foundation and design and such kind of questions for me is really interesting because first of all competitive papers all get so generic but this one just feels like a breath of fresh air I don't know but it's really important that you prepare for this question too I'm not very sure if it will come ahead or not but I think it will so if that is the case do appear for such question and it actually has 30 marks if I'm not wrong so if you are able to answer this question where Which shapes you're able to create a pattern that is interesting or answer their question accordingly that would be really interesting now I would really recommend you all to you know probably ifer Pinterest for such 3D compositions in general because even when I used to you know uh be in college like around first second year and we used to solve such similar you know assignments or something we would refer Pinterest like anything now whether you're referring Pinterest for drawing inspiration or for this one I think Pinterest would be just a great reference for you all because once you get into architecture every other sheet that you would see pinned up on the board for jewelry would be Pinterest inspired so you could probably start early the part A of this paper which is aptitude which you have to appear for first after that 90 minutes are done and then appear for your drawing exam which is the part B of the paper in aptitude there will be around 42 questions for mcqs and eight questions for mcqs and this maths in this paper will not be like really hard you will have to just be very aware of the topics that you would have done in 9th or 10th standard do pass paper questions and that should be pretty much it especially if you're preparing for J so you would already be you know solving those maths kind of questions so Nat should not be that hard and the aptitude like the McQ kind of questions would be related to the topics I just spoke about and the drawing section would rather have three kind of questions now one addition would be the 3D forms that you would have to create the second would be the 2D composition and then like a perspective sketching or something like that now they also ask English related questions where they would ask you to you know find these synonym of something or give like a short passage and then you need to give answers so you can't really predict the kind of English questions that they ask but yeah solving past paper would be really helpful NADA does not have negative marking unlike J paper to which has negative marking so that I think kind of helps you in removing that mental baggage that you also have to care about this alongside 10 more things that you need to do for the exam so I think that was something that really helped me because while I did not know answer to few questions I still gave it a shot and sometimes those bkas really help while I have discussed with you all both of the paper patterns in a bit detail there is a general question that I've been getting recently is which paper should I appear for Nat or G well that should not be a question in general because when you're getting into colleges it is so very important that you give all the papers possible for whatever attempts that they have so it really increases your chances to get into your desired University or to get you more chances to get into really competitive places that you want to study in after 12th I think that would be a no-brainer whether you are prepared or not I would just say it again appear for all attempts and appear for both of these papers if you're somebody who also wants to appear for B plan I'm not very sure I have not given B plan but hey you can always appear for that too because B plan itself is a different field it is related to architecture but a different degree so yeah that would be something that you could prepare for too as promised I'm going to be answering a few of your questions related to these competitive exams now let's take the first question by shishi can I get into iits nits SPS to J paper 2 for iits I think you'll have to give J paper 1 but for nits and SPS yes J paper 2 what are the expected percentile for all please do check the last year or pre previous 5 years cut offs to get into these papers are maths questions repeated I don't think so they would repeat any certain maths question like they would not give you ditto but they would ask you a similar kind of question which is very important uh that you solve for past paper questions so if they ask you a similar one you can at least answer them here's a question by pranchi that actually a lot of people also asked me do you suggest joining a coaching for J2 you know crash course something after boats now there are a few scenarios that I would like to tell you all uh in my case I actually did 2 years of coaching not like really rigorous one but yeah Saturday Sunday I would go for drawing and aptitude and everything and that really helped me because I was not very anxious before going for both of the papers but if you're somebody who's just after boards or you know just 2 three months before the exam and you're deciding okay I want to do this because a lot of people do that and it is not wrong and suppose you're telling yourself that oh I'm giving myself only one attempt and I need to do this and then I will get into some college please do take crash courses in that scenario because that will really help you focus on what you need to do first now whether you take online coaching offline coaching that is something which is your own decision but do go for coaching in that case even if you're deciding after 11th which is 12th that oh you know I really want to uh get into be so what should I do now first of all you have watched this video so I hope this would help in a certain way then go to the websites and understand when would be the registration happening what is the general procedure for that if you are having time to appear for some paper fill up the form get ready buy books and also do coaching in that case where you would actually get time to understand from the professional the mentor what kind of questions you need to do and then also solve things on your own a lot of the times when we go for coaching we blindly depend on them and then we don't do any selfstudy ourselves so it is very important that you do both of them and if you're somebody who believes no I think I've done drawing in general a lot or I come from a very creative family where everybody is doing something or the other related to drawing I come from a family of Architects or this and that so you might actually not required to do coaching because then you might be good at drawing and you just have to do your aptitude which can be done pretty much yourself so I'm not saying it's not possible that you cannot prepare for the paper yourself but you can always actually take coaching so I'm not against coaching that's something that I did and that really helped me a lot but that's going to be your own decision and you really need to decide it for yourself now here's a question by palak I got my counseling done and now I realize I want to pursue architecture can I prepare well for it in upcoming few months or what should I refer to like I said if you just have a few months you could go for crash course or maybe coaching online offline which is completely going to be your decision buy some books that could help you with aptitude and solve past paper I think that should help now I also got a few questions related to time management both during the paper and before the paper before the paper it is very important that you at least give 2 to 3 hours of time every day to prepare for the paper now when you're doing class 12th maths and science it can get really boring and generic in general I think soling aptitude and doing drawing sketching in general can just be really interesting so please get in that time whether you're doing it during your lunch breaks or you have that 1 hour span where you don't want to study but you want to take a break but you don't want to waste your time I think that should help and during the exam if you have soed enough papers that would really help you in bioca your time and one bonus tip would be always start your paper with the kind of questions that you're comfortable with that builds up the momentum and then then eventually solve questions that you might not be good at and where you know you are in that momentum and you can analyze and take risk that is going to be it for this video thank you so so much for watching well I hope this video gave you some insights on what you can expect what kind of papers that you need to give once you want to get into architecture college and once you get into one it is a different struggle and if you want to watch my Vlogs related to architecture College do check out my Channel or check out the links in description I will share with you all the different Vlogs that I have made during my 5 years of architecture experience and yeah I shall see you guys in the next video bye [Music]
