What is Blitz Chess?

• Blitz chess, also known as speed chess, is a fast-paced version of regular chess where each player has 10 minutes or less to complete the game.
• The standard rules of movement, capturing, and endgame from regular chess apply to blitz chess.

Main Goals in Blitz Chess

• Hustle: Make quick decisions.
• Practical Decision Making: Focus on practical moves within the time constraints.
• Best Moves: Strive to complete the best possible moves within the time limit.

Game Setup

• White Player's Advantage: White moves first.
• Black Player's Choice: Black chooses which side of the table to sit on.
• Opponents sit across from each other with the chessboard between them.
• Pieces are set up on the board for both players.

Time Management

• Each player has a total of 10 minutes to make all their moves.
• Use two timers:
  • Start the first timer for White's opening move.
  • After moving, White pauses the timer.
  • Black starts their timer, takes their turn, and pauses it.
• Gameplay continues with each player pausing their timer after their move.

• Players have only a few seconds per move to finish the game in the allotted time.
