Essential Films for Aspiring Filmmakers

Hi, I'm Suresh Sudeikaran. This is my list of top 100 films to see before you die. It's a list made for filmmakers by filmmaker. Lists by critics and fans have their place but only filmmakers really know what it takes to put magic up on screen.

The movies I picked are based on four criteria and I strictly scored these movies them. These are 1. Technical artistry. Films have many departments.

I'm looking for mastery over all departments. The really great films are also innovators. Camera, art, lighting, anything that furthers the cause of of filmmaking. 2. Storytelling artistry. This is the part that deals with what the audience is aware of.

Screenplay, acting and of course, film direction. 3. Art. Does the movie elevate itself to high art? Does it communicate with us on a deeper level and what's on the surface? It's a tricky criterion to score and everyone will have their own say here.

It's definitely the most contentious. Let's agree to disagree on this one. Finally, entertainment.

Movies are too expensive to ignore. finances. If a movie is both art and entertainment, it is the highest form of cinema. It is epic, even if it's a simple love story.

Now what the critics say? This I don't care about as a filmmaker. Most of them have never made a movie.

They haven't tried to achieve complex lighting or sound design or music. They've never taken acting classes or even write a screenplay. They don't have to because they speak to the masses, which is why filmmakers need a list of their own.

This is my list. I hope you like it. like it.

If it's moving too fast, check the link in the description for the written version. If your favorite film isn't on this list, go cry to mommy, because frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. Be careful, Charles! Pull your muffler around your neck, Charles!

I want to kill that person! I want to kill that person! Let those laugh that win.

I felt it was all so relieved. In my home! In my bedroom where my wife sleeps!

Well hello there chaps. That I cannot do. I'll give you anything you ask.

Marion, what in the world... What are you doing up here? Of course I'm glad to see you, I always am. You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale!

And I won't have it! It seems that envy is my sin. Oh, what's in the box?

You lie! You're a fucking liar! I could hide you, Tommy.

I know you would, Ma, but I ain't gonna let you. You hide somebody that's killed a guy and you're in trouble too. Take a look at this knife.

It's a very unusual knife. Sometimes it will stop raining long enough for the stars to come out. The doctrine of universal salvation is a lie, is it not?

What do you want me to say? Play these. What? Play those. What am I, a mirage?

What? What? Where's my fucking drink? I asked you for a drink.

I'm sorry. You can write, direct, and act in your own propaganda piece. You know, what has to happen in a person's life for them to become a critic anyway?

Read the Bible, Ringo. Not regularly, no. Well, there's this passage I got memorized.

Will you get my properties? Okay, go home. But in case you're interested, your husband was murdered. Airborne. Sir?

The car that just passed us exploded! The car? How could it do that?

I don't know! Lunch within eight hours? Okay? Okay.

Ring, ring, pick up the phone. Uh, hello? Quite a challenge, isn't it?

Sir, are you convinced that building this break is a good idea? All right, all right, here, here. Don't give it to me.

Wonderful. Oh, lovely. Is this the end?

《Feng Li》 Hey, reckon what he meant. He saw ranch houses burning. You're the notorious Ringo kid.

My friends just call me Ringo. Who's there? Call for out of shooting!

Main name first, then your surname. Do not bring your baggage with you. Things have changed, my friend. Believe in it.

What? Fire which never dies. Oh, perfect timing. I'd hope they'd hatch before I had to go to the boat.

Come on. Come on. Who is this car?

Is it yours? Yes Did you buy it by chance? My father You call this a throne? What else is a throne than a plank and some velvet, your majesty? Not yet.

I'm not married. No, I'm not married. Look, man, I'm telling you right off the bat, I'm hiding. I'm going to get a blue. Hello honey.

Oh, mercy. Hey Fanny! Hey Alexander!

I'm so happy to be here! Really? Teaching Lebanese immigrant women how to clean houses? Everyone wants to do it, come on, come on! Alright, come on.

Your bed's all ready. Come straight up that hill there. Just from bed through and through. John's bed. Yes, John's bed.

Manuela, how happy I am to see you. Too bad I'm here. I couldn't be anywhere else. You? Shatner.

I'd say William Shatner. Come on! So what do you want me to come out for? Come on, I want you to come out and look at something. Come on!

I want to see what you're up against! Then I had two false showings 20 blocks apart. Oh god help me please!

A memory? Nothing. Do you love me?

Yes. I don't. Haven't I seen you before?

I know your face. Get out or shall I call my service? Used to be in silent pictures, used to be big. I am big. There he is!

I told you! I told you he was right around the corner! Jamie...

Jamie... Jamie! Look behind you! Actually, they would breed prodigiously, eh?

There would be much time and little to do! But goodbye leg if you get away late Will you help me? I don't know what to do.

What are you trying to do steal my girl? Oh, what do you mean nobody's trying to steal anybody's girl? Here, here's mine That was amusing wasn't it?

But please don't get the idea it was mere entertainment
