The Reformers Way 1.2 - Understanding Seven Spheres and Theology

not only is it important for us to understand the seven spheres of society and the pillars that really move culture today but it's important for us to understand how we Engage The mindset in our belief system is a key on how we live out the systems and structures that we've been talking about and so a couple things that I want to talk about is our understanding and perhaps our definition and our theology in how we engage and how we move with God into these Arenas and so one of the elements that I want to talk to us about is this whole aspect and understanding of this mindset of triumphalism and so by definition triumphalism is the attitude or belief that a particular Doctrine culture or social system particularly a religious or political one how it's Superior and that it will or should triumph over all others and I want to propose to you that there's a lot of people who believe in triumphalism but I want to tell you that I believe triumphalism in this mindset that we're to take over everything else and that our Doctrine our theology uh although it is the truth for us to think of it from this matter is very dangerous because triumphalism will lead us into a belief system where our religious Doctrine needs to be instituted by force through geopolitical Reigns and we know from history that imposition from a political regime or government or King did not work you know it becomes Gravely dangerous and so triumphalism if you believe this I want to challenge your thought I want to challenge your thinking that we're not that we're not coming at this from a geopolitical position that we don't believe that you know what our government needs to impose on every person in the United States or any other Nation what their belief system should be again Constantine did that we see some of the reformers throughout history did that and we know that ultimately when we see the outcomes from that place it never created a place of sustainability it's not a GE political Reign but I want to propose to you as Jesus did it is a spiritual reign Jesus he could have taken over the kingdoms of the world when he came but instead he said I did not come to establish a geopolitical system but instead he brought the Kingdom from a spiritual perspective and so that leads us into another ideology or another theology which is dominionism or Dominion theology so Dominion theology beliefs are based upon really Genesis 28 and where it says God blessed them and God said to them be fruitful and multiply and fill the Earth and subdue it rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth Genesis 128 that word rule literally means in the Hebrew to take Dominion to rule and So based upon this there's a lot of people who actually believe that we're to take dominion over it and yet yes because the word dominion is in the scriptures we can't ignore it but I think it's important to understand the right application of this and have the right theology behind this so when we talk about Dominion theology or dominionism it's a very controversial term when it comes to the uh theologians and the body of Christ it's been debated for decades uh this whole aspect of the Manifest sons of God theology that came out from the 40s and 50s it was tied to Dominion Theology and so it didn't originate in our generation although a lot of people are trumpeting this again perhaps not even understanding or knowing what Dominion theology is but at the same time a lot of people who who are being uh accredited in a negative way where they're being accused of dominan theology um they even though it's sounds like it their heart is actually not the application of what we're talking about here but the uh dominan theology refers to the line of theological interpretation and thought with the regard of the role of the church in contemporary Society so in other words Dominion theology is also known as another term Christian reconstructionism and theonomy so theonomy is another way of saying it as well so Dominion theology states that biblical Christianity will rule all areas of society personal and corporate and that Christian reconstruction is I'm using this uh synonymously uh reasons that Society will be reconstructed by the kingdom by the ways of God by the laws of God as preached in the gospel and the Great Commission right so theonomy is a post-millennial view that believes and all the moral laws contained in the Old Testament are yet binding today and so you have all these mixtures and thoughts together and so although these you know these thoughts might sound somewhat you know just uh disperate they they have all been closely linked together to the point where people often use the terms again interchangeably but there are some distinctives although they're unifying together and so those who hold these views believe it's the duty of Christians to create a worldwide kingdom geopolitical system patterned after really the laws of God from the Bible and again it's geopolitical in nature they believe that Christ will not return until a kingdom has been established on the earth and so the principal goal then based upon this belief is that dominan theology Christian reconstructionism uh theonomy is political and religious domination of the world through the implementation of force through geopolitical means and so we need to have the right heartened application of this because again Jesus didn't come to his establish a geopolitical Reign well one day I believe he will the Bible talks about that but he came to establish the kingdom by his people spiritually and so again we need to have the right hearten application so we affirm that God's purpose is for Jesus to come back to fully establish his kingdom rule over all the Earth that's what the Bible talks about we believe that after the second coming the Saints will rule the Earth under the leadership of Jesus Christ when he sets up his government on the earth in Jerusalem or uh you know in the millennial Kingdom and you can refer there to uh 1 Corinthians 6:2 you can refer to Revelation 510 and also Revelation 20: 3-6 you know we believe that the Believers in this age are called to serve in politics and to help establish righteousness and Justice in legislation we believe that the Believers on the Earth are called to serve not only politics or government but family religion Arts entertainment media business in all the Spheres of society you know that we would see righteousness and Justice in all these areas but we don't have the assurance that all the laws and governments will be changed until after the second coming of Jesus although we want to see his kingdom and we want to see righteousness established in every area and so would even be as strong as to say you know I would deny that the church will take over the entire governments of the earth before Jesus comes back I'm not sure of that and so I wouldn't stake my reputation or my belief system on that but the right behind the right heart and idea behind the whole seven spheres is this that it's through influencing those in the areas of society that the entire Society can be influenced with the gospel of the Kingdom and so this is some of the mindsets perhaps that we need to recalibrate that we need to rethink when it comes to the seven spheres it's not a hostile takeover it's not one that's geopolitical in nature it's not through this dominionism that uh the Dominion theology in that sense yes we're to take Dominion but the question is then how do we take Dominion in the right governed sense of the Kingdom it's about influence and so we need to come into the heart of God when it comes to this it's to influence to EMB better every sphere of society so that we can see our societies transformed that our cultures would be transformed so that we can live according to God's purposes and his ways in that but again it's not by force although the Bible talks about the kingdom comes by force and you know and we and we take it by force but we have to attach that to the way Jesus came to the Earth because although Jesus spoke it we can misapply it if we don't interpret it right and the only way we can do that is by looking at the life of Jesus and so even throughout the scriptures have you looked at the life of Jesus on how he influenced Society how he influence culture and so we're going to go on this journey and we're going to talk about that here here in the next segment
