this is a story based on the book "Thinking fast and slow" by Daniel Kahneman to understand this story you need to first understand the basic principles of the cognitive processes known a system 1 and system 2 don't worry it's not rocket science just neuroscience. If you'd like to take this time to catch up on the history of neuroscience we can wait... Great let's go! So the idea is that system 1 is known as the automatic system, this is because it acts without conscious effort like running away when you see a ghost. In our story system 1 is the hero, a seasoned veteran who never questions his first instinct and is extremely stubborn system 2 is known as the effortful system. You can understand this system as the schollar called upon for tough tasks to help the hero though he is intelligent, his actions require a lot of mental effort and at times he can be a bit lazy. The scholar invests the least amount of effort required for the task all the same the scholar comes to the rescue of the hero and helps to keep him organized. He also acts according to the heroe's belief system. the relationship between the two systems is mutually beneficial they perfectly complement each other, even if they don't always like to admit it Now that we're all brain surgeons let's get started. Our story starts with the hero in the kingdom of your brain he has an audience with the Queen and he can tell immediately that the queen is displeased just by the look on her face but as soon as she spoke he detected the hostility in her voice system 1 creates automatic responses to things we have encountered before in the world this helps to reduce lag in reaction time when a familiar situation arises and reduces the energy required to react accordingly the hero knows from experience that when the queen is displeased it is better to listen as it turns out you have an important test this week in uhhh in... there are whispers in the frontal lobe section for court the prefrontal cortex passes a note to system 2 the note reminds the court that it is an entrance exam for college anyhow, it is causing stress to your body and mind the kingdom is in disarray. The hero acknowledges this information and nods to the scholar.. There is work to be done onward to get prepared, but first the scholar double checks that you have all of your study materials and the hero guides you effortlessly to the Ohh so familiar library down the street to be continued
