BMW M5 starting with the car that inspired me to make this video the latest and in hardly anyone's opinion the greatest M5 I'm pretty sure the E39 still wins the popularity contest anyway the new one it's the best example of how more is not actually more check out this graph it shows you how the M5 got fatter and fatter with each new generation yeah good on the f90 for actually losing a few pounds heavier than the Chevy Tahoe now like I said safety Comfort gizmos and electrification do make cars heavier but with this one the net result is worse the M5 is the first ever M5 that is slower than the old one not my words words from BMW themselves sure they've given it the 720 horsepower hybrid V8 from the XM more than that atrocity later and yes that's a huge bump over the old one but that hybrid comes with a heavy ass battery pack and it turns out 720 is just not enough BMW added more power but didn't add some extra power to compensate for the weight of that more power basically they failed the classic rocket equation so you need the fuel to get the fuel to burn the fuel to get your stuff to the Moon remat Nea unlike the BMW the NAA does have enough power to move its weight around this thing is so fast it once set 23 speed records in a single day but here's the thing all those records all 23 of them are for going in a straight line introduce some corners and this ultimate speed machine fails spectacularly how do I know remat once took the NAA to the nurburg ring in the best time it got was 7 Minutes 5 Seconds now that's not too bad in fact it's pretty good but and there is a huge butt here cars that are much weaker can go even faster take the GT3 RS for example only 520 horsepower and still almost 15 seconds quicker how's that even possible how come a hypercar with quadruple power with better traction thanks to its four-wheel drive with better agility control thanks to torque vectoring at Each corner can barely keep up well it all comes down to weight Nea has a lot of it despite using lightweight carbon fiber for pretty much everything that it can be used for the be's 120 KW battery pack still weighs as much as a moon meaning the whole car comes in at 5,100 lb that's a huge amount you have to swing around the corner and when a track has 176 Corners in total well that makes for a huge difference too that by the way is how much a golf 7R is slower than the Z6 Corvette think about that Challenger Hellcat not that it matters but I bet that you have no idea just how heavy these hellcats really are I thought somewhere around 37 3,800 lb but no it's 4500 that's over 2 metric tons which in my book is the SUV territory see but you know what it does make sense this is no lightweight track day specialist like the ZL1 or the GT 350r Hellcat is just a crude is madness hardly a relaxed Boulevard Cruiser this so maybe less would be more H well that's where the SL 43 comes in no heavy Hybrid Power no four-wheel drive no fourwh steer and under that long Hood there's only half the engine 2 L 4 cylinder seriously couple of problems with that you don't put such an engine in a $15,000 car makes it sound cheap nor do you put it in a car that still weighs almost 4,000 lb yes the 43 makes 375 horses which is impressive but they're overburden with so much useless Tech like the heated seats driver alert monitoring and pop Outdoors handles that the car can hardly keep up with the rals that are half its price for instance the base career convertible is much faster and more exciting to drive and the same could be even said about the Z4 besides if you want a 4-cylinder soft top there's only one right answer the Miata as for the bottom SL it should have been the 53 V6 instead not this too heavy too weak BMW XM oh boy here we go when the bmwm division announced that they were making new not based on any regular BMW the essence of M kind of Halo card the public went into a frenzy and then they unveiled it oh Jesus oh god oh oh Jesus God oh Merry
