can the new BMW M3 touring humiliate the more expensive Audi RS6 in a drag race we're gonna find out because I'm selling a Runway I've got both cars here and we're going to race them over the standing quarter mile once this fog lifts anyway let me tell you about this BMW because we've been waiting a long time for this haven't we a BMW M3 touring a practical estate version practical fast estate cars have always been the thing that you get from Audi not BMW but here we are so under the Bonnet three liter straight six Twin Turbo 510 horsepower 650 newton meters of torque driving all four wheels not just the rear wheels for an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox with launch control it weighs in at 1 865 kilos that is a lot for an M3 it's also quite expensive for an M3 85 000 pound starting price this one with all the kit on it yeah it's getting on for like a hundred thousand pounds it's lovely though love the interior although it does feel like I'm sat in an abattoir anyway enough about this car let's find out about the Audi which is actually from the class above go Nick tell me about the RS6 hi Matt this RS6 has a four liter twin turbo V8 with 600 horsepower 800 newton meters of torque sends all that power through an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox to all four wheels Quattro all-wheel drive it is bigger and it is heavier than your M3 this weighs 2075 kilos and it's also a lot more expensive a hundred and thirteen thousand pounds this costs so this could be very embarrassing for Audi we're basically playing in their backyard with a high performance a state car with four-wheel drive all BMW not only going to beat them but beat them with a car that's less expensive and actually from the class below and gives away two cylinders and a bunch of power what do you think is going to happen well I think we've got Quattro weather today haven't we it's cold it's greasy it's where it's slippery it's stuff that Audi knows so well so yeah you're absolutely right if this RS6 can't win this I think Audi's got a problem yeah because a lot of this is going to be down to traction not just power how well can they put their power down anyway if you'd like to Revis at all sad times but we can agree right one nil to the BMW so far I've never even gone anywhere [Music] two one oh neck and neck on the line oh he's slightly ahead come on Audi come on M3 oh yeah [Applause] oh my gosh that was close but it looks like the BMW beat the Audi you wouldn't believe it looking at the stats would you mark but that was her the line that was a great race as ever best two out of three let's do this team good oh he had me on the line that was traction quite tried to do the job I'm reading him in now though it's too little too late yeah you beat me off the line I don't know it was a bit slippy out there but it was so neck and neck I think this can go quite a lot quicker I got a really good start in this up until the first second gear change and then I felt like it started a bit I think I can do better too okay good oh here we go [Applause] well I never thought that would happen two one to the BMW I can't believe it's able to put down its power better than the Quattro Audi I feel like this car in that launch knew that it was on the cusp of being beaten and just gave it absolutely everything that was the best launch I've had so far Matt let's just go to the studio to make sure that everything was fair and square can you just tell me was there any jumping going on now who'd have thought it Nick the BMW M3 touring is quicker than the bad boy Audi RS6 I'm so Chad for you BMW Fanboys you are rejoicing in the comments right now I can tell well it's made me a bit moist as well to deliver the truth don't worry Audi Fanboys there is an RS6 performance coming isn't there Matt shut up all right now normally it should be turned three in the BMW has won but I reckon you can do a better launch do you I think so this Audi is just getting quicker every time just slightly but I mean it's such a close race every little matters here doesn't it we gotta go again all right let's do it best three out of five team good oh it's slippery off the line look better than me come on Audi it's so close [Music] oh dear that was so close my launch wasn't perfect it slipped a bit but I think it can do better well uh I guess we'll just have to find races now to make it clear it's definitely the BMW's net it's a sad but undeniable conclusion that BMW M3 tearing is quicker than this r06 I can't believe it do you know what we're gonna do one last run because I want a clear victory for the BMW if that's possible is it possible let's find out see if you can win by two wins if that makes sense let's do it okay good oh that was really good oh scrubbing around for crap come on [Applause] [Music] he's coming back a bit boom that is conclusive now this has won by quite a clear margin hasn't it in these conditions today the M3 is quicker I think it'll be quicker regardless to tell you the truth it's just faster just one last thing to check Stuart can you tell me was that launch clean launch Ed yeah let's party the M3 touring is quicker than the RS6 oh my God so then what exactly happened well the BMW one completing the standing quarter mile in 11.4 seconds the Audi took 11.5 seconds now we have a rolling race from 50 miles an hour the cars in their comfiest most relaxed setting so I'm an efficient for the engine and comfort everything else Audi's doing the same thing so let's get to 50 roll on three two one go kick down this was so slow oh we've got him that I was gone I've lost it there's talk forever to kick down an efficient relaxation chilled mode I've got like three bars of like acceleration in us on the gearbox there and um yeah that scuppered me that was an easy win for me done I do you know what I want to put the gearbox into like full on three but automatic mode see if that helps me okay let's see if having three bars on my automatic gearbox will help me out here come on BMW don't be so sluggish on the kick down your radio d three two one go oh yes yes oh yes satisfying you can't rely and in fact I'm gapping him a little bit oh yeah that gearbox setting makes a difference I had you there yeah apparently three bars is better than sports mode speaking of sports mode Let's put everything into their most aggressive settings and manual mode as well let's run again okay then everything in the sport you're setting manual mode for the gearbox roll on from 50 in third first of the half mile wins here we go three two one go foreign yes come on come on BMW yes so unbelievably close but the BMW one such a good race I could feel this car just etching back I was definitely gaining on you it wasn't enough I can't believe it gotta respect this car you know for most speeds that you're gonna be driving it's quicker than the idea ain't it it is but does it stopped better than the Audi we're gonna
