welcome to neurodiversopedia where we explain all those big complicated words pertaining to neurodiversity in ways that everybody can understand [Music] you may have heard this term multi-tiered systems of support or mtss in the classroom setting but what does it mean let's break it down it's a really large term that basically just means breaking up support into Three Steps step one step two step three could be more depending on the strategy it's the idea that a child who's learning something new like maybe fine motor skills can be elevated from different levels of support so let's say that Billy walks in classroom he's working on his fine motor skills and he needs to hold a pencil and he's having a hard time doing so maybe the first level of support is just providing different types of thickness of pencils to help him practice on his own if he's still struggling then you would have maybe a para or another professional sit with him and actually practice alongside of him a third level of support or the third tier would be actually getting an occupational therapists involved and having him go to occupational therapy to develop those fine motor skills this idea of mtss moves Beyond a overarching level of support in a classroom it's it's taking every child's needs and looking at them individually saying how can I help this child improve in this skill in a way that is effective for them so if your child isn't thriving in a traditional learning environment maybe try and see if a teacher would be willing to implement this idea of multi-tiered levels of support did that help you understand the term if yes give us a thumbs up or subscribe below if it didn't then leave us a comment and tell us why what are we missing we always want to do better this is a project by goalie check us out at getgoalie.com [Music]
