Information about the CLAT Exam

What is CLAT?

  • The full form of CLAT is "Common Law Admission Test".
  • It is a national level exam conducted for admission into national law universities.
  • Through this exam, seats in 24 national law universities can be secured.

Eligibility and Age Limit

  • There is no upper age limit to take the CLAT.
  • Students from any stream, be it commerce, science, or any other stream, can take the CLAT.
  • One can appear for this exam even at the age of 40.

CLAT 2025 Exam

  • The exam will be held in December 2025.
  • The last date to apply is October 15.
  • Those who appear in the exam will be eligible for the next year's batch.

Exam Structure

  • The exam will be of 120 minutes with 120 questions asked.
  • The question paper will be in pen-paper format and in English language.
  • There will be a total of 5 sections:
    • English
    • General Knowledge and Current Affairs
    • Logical Reasoning
    • Legal Reasoning
    • Quantitative Techniques
  • There will be negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for wrong answers.

Application Process and Fee

  • The application process will be online.
  • The application fee is 4000 rupees for general and OBC categories.
  • The fee for other categories is 3500 rupees.

Preparation Strategy

  • The exam will have more passage-based questions, so attention to reading skills is necessary.
  • To avoid negative marking, choose answers carefully.

Additional Information

  • Students in the PWD category will be given an extra 40 minutes in the exam.
  • For proper preparation, mock tests and practice are essential.
  • CLAT topics will be based on information up to 12th standard.
