this is going to be a video on the Apply scratch test for quick shoulder ROM [Music] assessment hi and welcome back to Physioutors when assessing a patient's shoulder the Epley scratch test allows you to get quick information on your patients functional capacity as it combines the movements of medial rotation with extension and adduction and lateral rotation with flexion and abduction those are typical movements often seen in tasks like reaching for your back pocket or combing your hair for the Epley scratch test the patient is going to try to bring the hands together on the back while one hand comes from above and one from below the patient should repeat the movement with switched arms while you are going to check for differences it is often seen that the dominant side shows more restriction than the non-dominant side if you see a restriction don't be fooled though that the problem necessarily lies in the glenoumeral joint as shoulder movement also include movements of the clavicle and scapula and many shoulder problems are caused by insufficient scapular muscle control like I mentioned before lack of scapular muscle control can be the underlying cause of shoulder problems so be sure to check out some of the specific muscle tests for the shoulder girdle right here subscribe to our channel if you haven't and I'll see you in the next video bye
