Wawasan dari 'Klub 5 Pagi' oleh Robin Sharma

Hi, Curious People, Maudy Ayunda here. Welcome to my booklist where I share interesting insights from the books I read. From all the contents of the book, I will only share 3 insights that are personally very interesting to me. Today we will dissect the book "The 5AM Club" by Robin Sharma. Well, Robin Sharma is considered one of the 5 best leadership experts in the world and he is often an advisor to CEOs, rock stars, like anybody, you name it. Well, in this book, he brings up many stories of people who have been committed to getting up early every day for years. And, from the evidence he has collected, he shows that getting up early is very, very important because it sets a positive and productive tone for the rest of our day. Insight 1: The secret behind success is waking up early, especially at 5 am. Well, this is one of the insights that becomes the title of this book, that to be successful we have to be willing to do something that not many people are willing to do. Including to make waking up early as a habit. What's the point? In this book there is a framework that I really like, which is the 20-20-20. This is recommended for the first hour of your day. That's 3 sets of 20 minutes. The first 20 minutes, we have to do physical exercise. You can fill this with working out, yoga or anything that makes you sweat because first, sweat helps eliminate the fear hormones, cortisol. And the second interesting thing, sweat also produces BDNF protein which repairs your neural connection cells so you really think more clearly and faster. Then, the second 20 minutes is usually for reflection so you can do journaling, meditate, pray, anything that's quiet time and makes you think more clearly. And in the last 20 minutes, we are encouraged to learn or we have to grow. So read books, read newspapers, and listen to podcasts. Then, we continue to do this routine for 66 days. That's how long it takes to become a habit. So after those 66 days, Robin Sharma calls that Automaticity Point where it finally becomes automatic for us to wake up in the morning. For the second insight is the secret of history makers, says Robin Sharma, and it's called capitalization IQ. Basically, the author did very in-depth research and he found that great people, successful people, are not just born with talent or motivation alone, but also depends on IQ capitalization. How far does that person utilize the potential, skills, whatever, that he has. So, these history makers are dedicated and committed to always grow and to hone these skills and this is what makes the difference. I really like it because it reminds me of the growth mindset where in order to be successful, we must not believe that we were born with what we have and just surrender. But we also have to keep growing, we have to keep honing, and we can get even better. OK, the 3rd insight: actually it's not insight, it's more like tactics, what I really really like about this book, is firstly, if we want to work, we need to create a tight bubble of total focus, where we we do our work without any interruptions, for example, we can set up a scheduled routine that is really far from interruptions and distractions, if for example we want to focus on one activity. Because distraction is a big no, and to be effective we have to really get rid of all those layers of complications. For example, given an example, we can simplify processes that are, like, complicated. Instead of working on many projects at once, we end up breaking our concentration, maybe just work on 1 or 2 projects instead. There is a second one, the 90-90-1 rule. Well, basically for the next 90 days, we have to use the first 90 minutes of your work to do priority and very impactful things first. By doing this, you basically make sure that the first 90 minutes of your day is completely focused on the most important activities and this will gives you very, very good results. The third is the 60-10 Method. Well, basically, every hour you work, take a break for 10 minutes, for example stretching, going for a walk, no screen time. By doing this, we ensure that we are not too stressed and overwhelmed and we can actually have more fuel to get through the rest of the day. And now for my most favorite part of the booklist is the "So what?" So what? So how do we put the book into action? In my opinion, we don't have to wake up straight away at 5 in the morning tomorrow, but we can just start with baby steps, or small steps. For example, the trick introduced in the book is no screen time, after 8 pm. So smartphones, iPods, laptops all have to be turned off. By limiting time like this, it will definitely be easier for us to sleep and perhaps by sleeping more easily, waking up in the morning can also be more natural. But by the way, I also have to admit that there are limitations. This will definitely be difficult for people who are night owls, who can't get up early or for parents of young children whose sleep schedule is definitely out of their control. So personally for me as well, no screen time is a bit difficult after 8 o'clock because I have work. So, I just want to acknowledge that not everyone has to do this, because people's ways are still different. But overall, I feel that this book is very, very insightful, very useful for people whose daily lives are very busy or overthinkers like being overwhelmed with their day because there are also lots of tactics and very, very actionable insights that really makes waking up in 5 am is very doable for people who want to try that. So why don't we try it? 5 am is the perfect time to get started. Okay, Thank you for listening, Curious people.
