GATE 2025 Preparation Guide

I think this was my biggest mistake that I clenched over a portion for so long that I almost forgot the importance of time management. Hi everyone, I hope you're doing good. So now, GATE 2025 has come very soon and its last date of application is 26th September. And recently one of my Julliars approached me, if I can help her to finalize this honey plan for GATE 2025. And I immediately said yes, not because she was my Julliar but because she also had a dream to go to IIT Bombay. And as a newbie of IIT Bombay, I feel now this has become my responsibility that she also has a dream of going to IIT. So I try my best to help him or her. And while I was preparing a plan for her, I understood that it's a high time to make a video on this. So other people can also be benefited. So in this video, we will talk about a detailed plan. How you can efficiently utilize the pending time for preparation from G8 to 2020 IAS. Now this is going to be very personal because I am going to be sharing my strategy which I adopted. Also this video is applicable for all branches, we have not only talked about Formula Science but also about generic steps. So if you are from any branch you can continue this video and watch the video till the end so that you can get the best out of it because we have not only shared a plan for you but I also shared My mistakes or failures which I think you should be knowing So that you can repeat the same mistakes And you can efficiently utilize the pending time So let's get back to the video So we divided our preparation into three stages So the first one was research And the second one was strategy And the third stage was execution Now In 2019, we had already given a year, so our concepts were a bit seer. We knew what the topics were in the operating system, what the concepts were, we knew all this at a very preliminary level. Because we didn't take any coaching, we didn't take any extra material. So it was just college and my own preparation. And when we gave the year in 2019, it also ran quite well. But between 2019 and 2028, we had a lot of changes. Like I was working, I was doing a 9-5 job. and we also had a gap in our reach, so we had to start from zero again. But yes, you can see that we knew a few concepts. Now we had limited time, so the first step which should be in the preparation of any gram, of any student and which I also followed is researching. What pattern are you going to have? Which IIT gate is going to prepare that year? What are its patterns? What are its traits? What are the traits that give Ravn Potters to the subject? They have a lot of research on the concept of gate and numericals. So, you can do this research. Now, I have already done your homework for this year's gate. So, the dates of the gates are February 1, 2, 15 and 16. IIT Roorkee is conducting the IITs this year. Before that, IIT Roorkee conducted the gate examination in 2009 and after 8 years cycle in 2017. And last date to apply for this GATE examination 2025 is September 26th. So before that, you should apply timely for this examination. If we talk about the format, then it has three types of questions. MCQ, MSQ and Numerical Ability. And the nature of the questions is basically to test your recall, comprehension, application and analysis and synthesis. And basically, it has two... type 3 questions which carry 1 mark and the second one which carries 2 marks. The MCQs of 1 mark have 1-3 marks, negative mark. And for 2 marks MCQs, 2-3rd of marks will be deducted for wrong questions. And there is no negative marking for MCQs, same goes with NIT. Then if we see the trend of previous years, then if we see the trend from 2019 to 2014, then in Engineering and Mathematics, 6%, 7%, And if you can see, most of the questions were asked from the operating system in 2016. So what I can see is that the most questions were asked from operating system, DVMS, CN and mathematics. So basically, they conducted the app in 2009 and then in 2017. So you can see according to that what is their tendency because they ask more questions from subjects. So you can do this basic analysis. Then for syllabus, I will attach this link in the description. Now coming to step 2. That was making a strategy. By this time, I understood that these are the syllabus and we have to prepare in a way that we had to do this strategy because we had limited time. And I understand that if you go to college, you also have limited time. You have to do your post-work and preparation. So you also have limited time. Now the first thing you have to do is to print out your syllabus. This is a very old printout, so its condition is very bad. So, these are the 2022 syllabus of GATE that we had taken out and you have to take out the save as well so that you can follow how the syllabus is done. It's very handy and very easy to navigate otherwise, the screen time would have been too much for them. First thing is that you take out the printout of the syllabus. Now, we have 5 months. So, in 3 months, I completed all the syllabus and had to do revision of it as well. Now, what we did in these 3 months? We completed all the syllabus of all subjects. and ask all the previous questions according to topic. If we start from here, you have 5 months. So, in the first 3 months, maybe you complete all the syllabus, but if you have done research and seen in which subjects most of the questions were asked, like from computer networks, DBMS, data structure, so first try to cover them, and then you can leave the minor subjects that are left. Because what you have to do is to give your marks. Now, it doesn't matter if it is from any subject. So, you have to cover your engineering, mathematics, DBMS first. So, see I did. I completed my syllabus in 3 months. I covered its short notes. Now, short notes is a big game changer. Because, when you practice in the last month, you don't cover your whole syllabus. You revise your syllabus from the 4th note only. So, I will share. So, these were my short notes. And this thin notebook was covered the whole syllabus of the whole grade. Now, if you want to know how you can make short notes. So let me know by commenting short notes and I will make a detailed video on this because this is a skill actually. Because in short runs we sometimes feel like adding this and that but it has a lot of formulas and concepts which we can keep in mind and which really worked for me. So I can share that with you all if you are interested. So do let me know by commenting. Now in the first step we completed all the syllabus and then we made short notes. Then we did the previous year questions topic wise. Then the third step which I did was. We started to cover mock tests every month. We didn't cover every topic but we did a mock test every month. We considered the questions we had completed and covered them. For example, we covered the operating system in the first month. So, we covered the questions of the operating system. So that we could understand if our grasping was good or not. Or if there was any problem with the time. We did something like this and started the mock test in 3 months. The last 2 months we had left, we gave the entire revision and mock test. So you have to do the same things. When we did the mock test, we wrote down all the wrong questions that happened. For example, if you can see in this, this is the result of our mock test. In this, our 56 marks have come. So, as we have written wrong in the question of 33rd that FIFO has not done any updated work. So, even if you do this mistake, it is very good. So, if you are making a mistake in your notebook, make sure you write against the question number. This is our mock test. I don't know if it worked for you or not but this could be my takeaway and I would recommend you to do the same and if you want to know that actually when detailed mock test kaise dena hai so do comment mock test and I will make a dedicated video on this. Because this is a game changer for you to do mock test. You have to understand where you are making a mistake, how to manage your time, how to solve the question, how to do the conception, ask yourself all these questions. Now I have also devised a plan for computer science students. Now, if you are from CS background, so you can follow this strategy. So, in month 1, you can start, you can cover mathematics, then computer organization and architecture, then data structure, you can cover in month 1. Parallelly, you have to do topic-wise questions and previous year questions. Parallelly, okay. In month 2, you can start algorithms, then theory of computation and compiler designing. You can cover this in month 2. and you have to do topic wise questions and also ask previous year questions and from month 2 you can start giving mock test also you can give mock test according to what you have covered and analyze yourself accordingly in month 3 you can do operating systems then DVMS, computer networks, digital logic and software engineering now software engineers don't ask so many questions and if they do then they are very basic so you can cover this in month 3 then again Don't close on solving topic wise questions and previous year questions. And then coming to month 4 and 5, you have to focus more on revision and mock test. So I have noted down what I did. Like you have to review all your subjects which you have covered in month 1. 1,2,3 and you have to focus on the weak points which you will understand when you will put the mock test you have to give full length mock test regularly with time base and you have to analyze your performance and adjust your study strategy like for example if you have weak point operating system then you have to emphasize a little more revision on operating system I won't suggest that you go in a very deep concept in month 5 I would say that as much as you know because we get very anxious sometimes that we don't even know this. So, there are some negativity in our mind. So, I would suggest that you should cover as much syllabus as you can max to max till month 5, that is till month 4. After that, you should focus on revision and mock test. Then, you have to solve intensive problem in month 4 and 5. Then, in our revision phase 2, we have done comprehensive review of subjects. That means, we have done short notes. After that, I made a formula notebook and if you want to know how the formula notebook is and how we prepared it, do let me know by commenting. And I will make a dedicated video because I think it has a lot of effect on your preparation. So you should understand how to prepare on first hand. After that, I invested on last minute preparations. After that, we never left the mock test. I mean, in 5, we just gave mock test and previewed from our short notes and formula book. Then time-based. previous questions and you have to focus on your weak areas again i will emphasize i want to make a dedicated video only if you give me enough support i don't think this is the right way of applying mock test so do let me know if you're interested in that video Additionally, there are few things. You have to dedicate sincere hours daily for the preparation. After that, you have to follow standard textbooks and online resources. Not like this because there are so many websites, so many applications and so many courses are coming now. So, you don't fall for that. So, whatever standard textbooks we have, if you want that, you can comment down and I will make a resource which I will share with you all. Then you can join online forum in which I used doubt clarifications. Telegram group. After that you have to regularly analyze your performance in mock test. And this is a major factor because our performance is very subjective. Someone can have a lot of problems with numerical ability, someone can have a lot of time with concept questions. So you have to analyze your performance very deeply and only you can do that. Now the third part was execution. Now this also holds the same importance as our strategy piece. So during the execution time, because we have a little longer time and we have our post work as well, for example I was doing a job So a lot of responsibilities are done. So there are some pointers that you have to keep in mind. So the first pointer is no party, no to friends, no to each and everything. That sounds really harsh. But if you want to do something big, then you have to stay away from them for a little while. So I was not going to any party, I go to the city. But I also said no to my friends, as they meet on weekends. And I was doing a job, so whenever there were lunch breaks or tea breaks, I didn't go there. Why I have to divert my mind in my gossip or other things. So either I was doing my job related work or I would do gate preparation related. So these were our two things. And same goes with you, as you are preparing for gate 2025, you need to be really sincere. The most important thing in this is that you have to understand your why. Why did you start your vibration? You have to always be aware of your goal and achieve it. If your starting with why is always close to your mind, then you won't get distracted. Also, one more thing is that this grade examination checks most of your concepts and applications. So you don't have to be a rattan for anything, you have to understand the concept and only then you will be able to ace this exam. So these will be my pointers. Also when you are taking the mock tests, make sure you are on time because when we were taking the mock tests, I clanged to one question so long that we forgot the time management. This was my learning that we should not be egoistic in our answer gate examinations because this is not getting solved. You don't have to make such mistakes. When you will be more tense, you will understand that this is a mistake. And you will understand it then only. You will not do the actual examination. Because our mind works like this. If we have made a mistake, our mind will give a red alert once. You have made this mistake, don't do it again. So that was all about this video.
