of Alessi principle tribe own of the New York Philharmonic and today we're going to talk about some of these high-range excerpts that we encounter certainly in high school I struggled with some of the Strauss excerpts and also you know something like Berlioz symphonie fantastique and was very frustrated not being able to play the notes in the right dynamic and you know what get into a squeaking of the note but not really playing the note and I think that's important to recognize that when you're squeaking something and when you're actually getting the entire note so right now I'm just going to demonstrate the zero through strip passage the trombone solo that actually plays with I believe the sixth horn and I don't have the score in front of me right now so don't quote me exactly on that but it's one of the horns down the section so here we go what I'm thinking about there is to get the right compression okay so imagine a row of imagine a world of robotic trombone players okay so we have the metal metal frame and then inside this metal frame you have a tank okay in a metal tank let's say and we have a tube and we have a compressor okay so that's sort of what you need to work on is getting the right compression and using your body many times I have my own students in order to learn how to use your body and use your torso which is what it's all about get them to actually yell or shout now I'm going to do that right now hi okay so what if you yell out across the street somebody's in trouble you're going to really feel it from here you
