learning competencies divides decimals up to four decimal places by 110 100s and 1,000 and up to two decimal places by 10 100 and 1,000 mentally after going through this lesson you are expected to divide decimals up to four decimal places by 1110 100s and 1,000s and up to two decimal places by 10 100 and 1,000 mentally probably you are wondering about the steps in dividing numbers by one10 100s 1,000s and 110,000 notice that it is the same as multiplying by 10 100 and 1,000 and 10,000 so let us do this example let us divide 510 by 1110 100s and 1,000 let's divide first by 1/10 division of a number or decimal by 1/10 is actually the movement of one decimal place to the right of the dividend and divisor for example 510 / 1/10 first move the decimal point one place to the right of the dividend and also move the decimal point one decimal place to the right of the divisor so the result is 5 / 1 = 5 so this is the quotient next divide by 100s division of a number or decimal by 100s is actually the movement of two decimal places to the right of the dividend and divisor 510 divided by 100s first move the decimal point to place to the right of the dividend 1 2 and move decimal point two places to the right of the divisor 1 2 then add one zero to the dividend so this is the result 50 / 1 equal 50 and divide by 1,000 division of a number or decimal by 1,000 is actually the move movement of three decimal places to the right of the dividend and divisor 510 divided by 1,000 first move the decimal point three decimal places to the right of the dividend 1 2 3 and also move the zeros in the divisor same with 100 move two decimal point to the left in 1,000 you are going to move the decimal point three decimal places to the left for example if you are dividing decimal by 10
