Large Intestine Channel Overview

  • Type: Yang channel, specifically a Yang Ming channel
  • Activity Time: Most active between 5-7 AM
  • Pathway:
    • Starts at the index finger
    • Travels along the dorsum of the hand, posterior forearm, elbow, upper arm, and shoulder
    • Ascends to the neck and crosses the body
    • Ends at the opposite side of the ala of the nose
  • Unique Feature: Only meridian that crosses the body

Location and Function of Key Points (LI1 to LI5)

  • LI1:
    • Location: Base of the corner of the nail of the index finger
    • Function: General point, used for fainting, coma, etc.
  • LI2 & LI3:
    • Location: Around the second metacarpal phalangeal joint
    • Function: Clears heat, treats toothache of the lower jaw
  • LI4:
    • Location: Between the first and second metacarpal bones
    • Function:
      • Command point for the face
      • Treats headaches, pain anywhere in the body
      • Contraindicated during pregnancy
      • Used for immune support and moving blood
  • LI5:
    • Location: Anatomical snuff box
    • Function: Clears heat, treats sore throat, ear pain

Functions of Points LI6 to LI11

  • LI6:
    • Connecting point to the lung
    • Used for allergic reactions causing swelling
  • LI7:
    • Function: Treats pain in the large intestine
  • LI8, LI9, LI10:
    • Function: Local pain relief for the arm
  • LI11:
    • Best for clearing heat, ghost point for calming the mind

Additional Points (LI12 to LI20)

  • LI12 to LI15: Local pain relief for shoulder, arm, elbow

  • LI17 & LI18:
    • Located on the side of the neck
