Partial Bed Bath Procedure

Introduction

  • Role & Introduction: Patti, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), introduces herself to Miss Jones.
  • Permission & Preparation:
    • Asks for permission to perform a partial bed bath.

    • Washes hands and gathers supplies.

Supplies Needed

Procedure

Pre-Bathing Steps

Bathing Process

Face Wash

  • Eyes: Washes from inner to outer corner, using separate parts of the washcloth for each eye.
  • Drying: Pats dry with towel.

Upper Body Wash

  • Soap Application: Uses second washcloth with soap.
  • Areas Covered:
    • Behind the ear, under chin, across neck, upper torso, down to abdomen, up side.
    • Cleans down front of arm, hand, back of arm, and armpit.
  • Rinsing: Uses third washcloth to rinse the same areas.

Dressing

  • Gown Application: Assists Miss Jones with putting on a clean gown.

Back Clean & Rub

    • Uses third washcloth to wash back of neck, shoulders, back down to waist.
    • Rinses and dries using fourth washcloth.
  • Back Rub:
    • Uses warmed lotion, rubs back in small circles for circulation.
    • Wipes off excess lotion.

Post-Bathing Steps

  • Final Arrangements:
    • Ties gown, removes towel protecting linens.
    • Assists Miss Jones to return to the back and center of the bed.

Cleaning Up

  • Linen Disposal: Places dirty linens in designated area.
  • Basin Cleaning:
    • Empties, rinses, and dries basin using paper towels.
    • Stores soap and lotion in basin.
  • Privacy Blanket: Removes carefully, rolls it for disposal.

Conclusion

  • Final Check: Ensures Miss Jones is comfortable, offers additional items (magazine).
