Hazard Perception Strategies

are you struggling with your hazard perception do you keep clicking too early do you click too late are you one of those who are counting the clicks because you've been told you can only click a certain amount of times are you clicking way too many times and getting zeros but if this is you then this video is definitely for you you need to watch it from start to finish I'm gonna tell you exactly what you are looking for I'm going to give you a method the two click method and I'm going to dispel any myths that you have about counting your clicks and clicking too many times so stay tuned first of all let's explain what you are looking for on the hazard perception you are looking for developing hazards there's two types of Hazards one potential that could have been a problem and with the developing one the developing one is what you are looking for that's going to make you shift left or right or slow down now if you are taking driving lessons or you want to relate it to real life driving back click that you do is you check in the mirrors so when you're on your driving test it's going to fall in this section so as you can see the mirror section is massive it's three parts the most amount of force you can get in each section is for do your maths four freezer 12 that's 12 minor fours you only allowed 15 miners on your driving test total I'm gonna be honest with you if you're gonna pick up 12 mirror forts it's unlikely going to pass your driving test in my years of teaching someone not that I want to I've got no one near 12 mirror falls and steel parcel driving test because when you didn't check humors there had to be something there that's why there has a perception was introduced so let me just recap you are looking for anything that's going to slow down or change direction the method you want to use is the two click method there's a free click method but I don't teach there if you want to use that as fine not a problem it still works along the same lines the way it works is you click once you go one two click again if you're doing a free click method you just do it again one two click again so you end up with three clicks but I'm gonna teach you the two click method so let's visit a video that is being clicked too early so scanning the road ahead the woman with the blonde hair one click I've seen her not a problem so technically I should be getting a fight because I saw her it's not whether you saw her or not it's about you getting a score so let's see what I got surprise surprise got a zero why let's take a look [Music] I'm gonna move that back a little bit let's stop it right there there you go she's she is circled I've seen her I've clicked I've got a zero it's not whether you see the problem or not it's whether you get a score you need to get a score in this window between five and one ideally you want to get between five and three because you need to average free every clip there's 14 video clips there's 13 single Hazard which means you can score a maximum of five one of them's got a double two fives you can score with ten do your maths you need to average at least a free on every clip to standard chance of passing in this case I'm up against it because I have a zero to start off with I can bring my average up by getting fives and fours along the way and get a nice eight or nine on my double but I'm already struggling so I will repeat it's not whether you see the hazard or not it's whether you get a score or not you're trying to get in the countdown window let me redo this video with the two click method so they're the there's the woman with the blonde hair one two and there's my second click two click method so let's see what my score is this time five let's take a look why I got a five there's my first clip let's move back just a touch there's my first click similar to the first time I did it with one click but remember it's about me getting a score not whether I saw it or not it's about me getting a score two click method one two there's my second click it's landed in a five if the first click landed in a five I'm gonna get the highest Mark so as much as the first click learns in the five the second one lands in the free for example I'm still gonna get the highest Mark there is no benefit in clicking once there's lots of benefits in clicking twice and that's why you go through two click method do not rely on seeing it once and once only click twice are you clicking too late on the hazards that's probably because you're not looking for Clues beforehand so let me demonstrate it's approaching the line one click [Music] got a zero why let's take a look [Music] so it way too late so let's revisit that clip with the two click method looking for Clues so there's a sign saying the lanes closed off and there's this indicator one two and there's my second click there's two Clues there the Lane's been closed off and his indicator let's see what score it gave me four out of five let's find out why so there's the clues decide the sign says the roads being closed off and there's this indicator and there's my second click it looks like my second click landed in one as I said you're always going to get the highest Mark so there's no disadvantage of clicking twice lots of benefits no disadvantage so let's talk about some myths the amount of times you can click on a video how many times you can click on the video I can't answer that but if you click on things that exist you've got nothing to worry about what's been coming up a lot recently is you guys have been commenting on 10 clicks 12 clicks 14 clicks per video that's what you're allowed to have I had this in the classroom recently where one of my pupils got three zeros because he counted his clicks let me demonstrate I'm going to do 12 clicks so I'm going to count 12 clicks no more no less so let's see how that works out so the Vans parked up I'm gonna have to move to my right so it's a mirror check so you should always be scanning the road ahead there's a triangle warning me of a Bend so I click that's four so far so the bend is coming up I can't see around the corner so I may need to slow down S6 car coming out that's eight car parked up on the left are gonna need to come out to the right to pass it that's 10. and again car parked up gonna have to come out that's 12. so that's 12 clicks it's that means I can't click anymore so let's just keep watching the video [Music] go zero let's find out why I'm gonna pause it there let's count the flags together two four six eight ten twelve I said to you I'm gonna do 12 clicks my people in the classroom was told you can only do 10 but I've done 12. now the problem with that and this is the probably the same problem he had the hazard was towards the end of the video but it's already use up his 10 clicks I've used up my 12 which means I can't click again based on what I've told myself in my head I can only click 12 times there's a hazard a zero do not count your clicks you're wasting your time especially in a real test you're wasting nervous energy you're gonna panic do not count your clicks if you're click on a problem that exists you will be passing it you won't be clicking too many times you won't be clicking too little if you are clicking on things that exist so let's revisit this video with the right amount of clicks so the van's parked up that's a mirror check to the right and the main mirror so the road sign triangles warning me there's a Bend coming up so there's the bend I don't know what's around the corner so it's always going to be what if something's around the corner slow down and includes accelerator at the bend car coming out the junction car part up on the left I can't be a meter from the curb if he's parked up getting cars Parts up on the left same thing foreign car is moving off a technically tight space I can click again four out of five let's find out why here's my first click there's my second click I'm gonna let it run on a little bit because I want to show you some guys something as well and there's two more so let's count the flags two four six eight ten twelve fourteen sixteen clicks and got four out of five I'm not counting my clicks I'm clicking on problems that exist hopefully you guys are starting to see what's happening it doesn't matter how many clicks you do as long as you're clicking on things that exist I will repeat anything that's going to create a slow down Main mirror and if it's going to shift Direction your wing mirrors if you're clicking on things that do not exist yes it can add up to Too Much click on things that exist you have nothing to worry about stop counting your clicks on this next demonstration I'm gonna click too many times but on things that exist but I know I don't really need to click on it just to show you what will happen let's take a look start cyclist I can see the cyclists it's going to cause a problem brake lights indicator [Music] so again I'm scanning the road I can see a card down the sides on the side roads the bus is indicating see the cyclists cyclist is now coming to the white line I'm about to pass the cyclist four out of five let's find out why here's my first click there's my second click always going to get the highest Mark there's no disadvantage in clicking twice lots of benefits no disadvantage again I hope you guys are seeing this let's count the flags two four six eight ten twelve fourteen clicks I did click on things that I didn't really need to click on but I'm just trying to prove a point if you click on things that exist it's never going to be too many times now let's do the last demonstration of clicking too many times I'm going to click on things that do not exist let's see what happens Rob the Hilda I can't see over the road to my right car can shoot out of there class pot up on my right people in the roads he's now crossing the roads cars reversing the brand parked up on the pavement and has to shift out to the right a Bend I can't see around so I may need to adjust my speed Class part up on the bend just after the bends should I say another Bend I can't see around just in case telling me slow on the floor side road to my left car can come out of there or a bike there you go I clicked an unacceptable manner so you responded to this clip in an unacceptable manner you will score zero for this clip let's take a look why let's just see first of all so I've actually got a score for that so I did get a score and it looks like a five but let's just say I didn't get the five it's too early I got a free remember you need to average above three we know why I got the zero because I clicked too many times so you'll just take a look two four six eight ten twelve fourteen sixteen eighteen twenty twenty two twenty four clicks most of us wasn't needed now let's revisit this video with the right amount of Clicks in the right places for the right things so the Bradley Hill I could click because I can't see what's on the other side the road to my right record before there's nothing there so I don't need to clicks I can't hear cars are parked up yes I know that there's nothing coming towards me there are people in the road so I'm gonna just click on that that cost line to reverse I click on that I'm already out to the right with the van Park tops I don't need to be clicking again the bins yes I could click on that because I can't see around there you should reduce your speed into the bend and accelerate out and there's another thing technically I could do the same thing click on that because I can't see around there yes it's telling me it's on the floor but I'm already slowing down before the bend beforehand and again looking ahead there's nothing for me to hit for the side Rod to my left I mentioned earlier on in the first video it's all clear there's nothing for me to hear that's a more realistic video again let's take a look at why so there's my first click and I've got a four so that is out just missed it just missed the five but because I do a two click method I've got a score and above three as well that's the reason why you do a two click method just in case if I'm clicking on things that exist now not things that didn't I will stress again if you click on things that exist that's gonna call you to slow down or change direction you are not going to click too many times you don't need to be counting the clicks because you're clicking on the right things go for a two click method there is a free clip method out there as well that you can use but go for a two click method just in case you do click too many times with a free click hopefully this explains the hazard perception in more detail and it makes things a lot more clearer to you guys if you've got some benefit from this video like comment below and subscribe YouTube's going to show you a video here I'm going to show you a video here go off and watch which video is relevant to you and I should catch you in the next video foreign
