Guide to APA Research Article Critique

Hi class, welcome back. Today we're going to be talking about your research article critique. The things that I want you to think about is when you're going in and you're searching, it needs to be psychologically based and it needs to be dealt with your field. All right, so once you go in and you get your, you find your article that you'd like to critique, you're going to read it and then we're going to get into writing your critique. So I'm just going to show you how to set it up. in APA format. I'm not going to be grading you on your content more. I'm going to be grading you on your formatting and then of course grammar and stuff like that. But here we go. All right. So in APA formatting you want to make sure that you have a running head at the top. If you see my, sorry, you see the running head here. I don't know why this is not working. There we go. Running head here. then we have your abbreviated title right there. Okay, all caps for that abbreviated title. Abbreviated title is the abbreviation of this particular research article title. You're going to put that all here, your name, your date, and your class. Moving on to the second page. This is your cover page. Okay, second page is just going to be your content of your paper. So you're still going to have at the top left you're going to have that abbreviated title, no running head at the top. Then you're going to write your purpose, your methods, your results, and your takeaway. Make sure that these are sections right here. These are different sections and section headers. This is not just one big long paragraph. Each section purpose can be flush left or it can be centered, either way you'd like to put it. And each section needs to be a couple of pages, a couple of sentences. So when you get to your takeaway, this is your opinion, okay? So you want to make sure that you're asking yourself things like, you know, did I like this article? Did I not? And why could I use this information in my future career? If I had done this particular research project, would I have done this the same or differently? Anything like that, okay? So if for some reason this particular, the body and the content of your paper does move, push you into a third page, which it might. Of course this will this part will be gone. This is just a reminder that if you need, if you do go to a third page, you need to make sure that you have that same abbreviated running head at the top of that third page. But if you don't, either way, if you don't, if you don't move to a third page, then one other thing you have to think about is the reference. Right, you see the reference here at the bottom. you want to make sure that the reference stays intact. So we're not going to have half the reference on page 2 and half the reference on page 3. So referring to your reference, as you can see here, as the word reference, then we have the APA formatting. All right? I'm going to send you this and upload it to D2L, this example, so that you can look at it and make sure that your paper is formatted the same way. Please make sure that you, the things just that you're looking at. just real quick, make sure you have a hanging indention. Make sure that your journal article, I mean your journal title itself is in italics and that you just have the year that the paper is published, not the whole date, like or don't have a retrieved date or anything like that. Okay, so make sure it matches this way. So If you have any questions or need any help, I'll be happy to help you. Just email me and reach out and I will do what I can to help. You guys have a wonderful day.
