What is it like to live in Kuala Lumpur? At 5pm I go back and I continue working from home. What's the biggest advantage of living in Kuala Lumpur?
It's nice. Why is it so nice? This channel is based in Thailand. We're showing you the beauty of Southeast Asia and now we are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. And in this episode, we're going to find out what it is like to live and work in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Can I ask you what you're doing here? I'm working in an insurance company. Okay. And how is it to live in Kuala Lumpur? Do you have a family and all that?
Yeah, my family is staying here. It's like one hour drive from here. Oh, so far?
Due to the traffic and all that. Otherwise, it would be... probably take about 30 minutes or so yeah do you travel every day back and forward yeah yeah that's right but my company is so generous to allow us to work from home like twice a week so we have that flexibility is that a normal thing let's say in kuala lumpur to work remote a little bit partly yeah a lot of people do that not everybody stay in the city itself some are like you know they have settled down like from i think outskirt but it requires driving some will take public transportation and all that are you driving driving or i'm driving how many hours do you work a week let's go by day you work like eight hours per day since the pandemic a lot of companies have moved into work from home and all that so i think with that the work balance is somehow balanced compared to previously where people are required to be in the office all the time do you work six days or five or six days uh five days yeah five days but with two or three days working at home i think it's fine if you ask When you asked me this question like maybe five years ago things were different. Now with the advancement in the technology and all that, VPN, you can just log in from wherever you are and you can continue working. What's the biggest advantage of living in Kuala Lumpur?
You can see for yourself everything is centered at one place. So you don't really have to go far, you know. Be it for work related or even to get food.
you want to go shopping and all that it's just like walking distance yeah is there a disadvantage of working and living here busy traffic it can really take a long time that could actually you know expose to some kind of stress traveling stress and all that i see people also like very kind people here in kuala lumpur but stressful in the in traffic yes the traffic condition is quite bad especially when it's raining yeah actually it starts to rain soon so i don't hold you up any Can I ask you one favor? Do you have a message to the world or some wisdom to pass on? Could be anything.
Please do not hurt animals. Please take care, you know, give them food, give shelter, you know, because I think animals also deserve to be in the planet. So that's the message I have for everybody in the world. I'm from Kedah, northern region of Malaysia. So I've been here since 2018. We're basically trying to find out how it is like to work and live in Kuala Lumpur.
It's a fun city. If you like nightlife, you have everything here. It's a good place to travel.
And the people are friendly and the food is nice. Can I ask you, what are you doing here? I am a banker here. I think it's a good profession here.
Yes. Yeah, good pay. What do you do on your days off?
I usually play futsal, play football, hang out with my friends. How many hours do you work a week? I don't have any limit for working.
I can work 24 hours a day. I can work overtime, I don't mind. How many hours do you normally do a week? I wake up at 6, around 7.40 I'm already here. Sometimes I work, like right now, at 5pm I go back.
And I continue working from home. Until when? Is this normal as a banker?
Yeah. Do you plan to live somewhere else than Kuala Lumpur? Are you planning to stay here for...
I think I'll retire here. You have a family now? Yes. I bought a house in Petroja. Okay, nice.
So I definitely stay here. Is your wife working also? Yes, she's working full-time, working from home. Working from home.
Is it possible here as a banker to just supply your family alone? Or does your wife kind of have to work in, let's say, the life that you're living here? I...
I can support my family well, but sometimes if you want to add more, like travelling more, I think she needs to add somewhere. Do you travel also to other countries? Yeah, mostly Indonesia, just nearby for now.
Yeah, yeah. Do you go to Thailand sometimes? I was, I'm from Kedah.
Kedah is near Thailand, so I've been there a few quite times. This city is very friendly. I mingle with my friends, my colleagues. and all, we play futsal, we play sports together, we hang out, play bowling during weekends and all.
Yeah, it's a fun city. Nice. Me as a foreigner, we are looking at maybe staying a little bit longer here in Kuala Lumpur because we really like it here. Do you mingle also with foreigners? Of course, I'm open to...
We, Malaysians are not racist. Yeah, we can mingle with everyone. If you want to hang out with me, you can have my number, we can go out anywhere.
Play some futsal. Yeah, play some futsal. you can be hunting and oh yeah we have a good food we have a good culture yeah what's the best thing you would say over let's say the big advantage of living in Kuala Lumpur other than that the pay is pretty good over here compared to other cities is much more well-developed we have good public public transport is there something that is maybe maybe a disadvantage living in Kuala Lumpur I know that some of them are rich some of them are middle class person sometimes our low class for the look maybe some people are desperate to get money so they tend to to do robberies and all yet these are one of the disadvantages of living in Poland the thieves and all yeah. There are also, yeah. But I think overall, I mean I see a lot of police, I feel quite safe here.
Yeah, sure, definitely. But there's still theft and obviously there's everywhere. But is there also quite a bit of poverty here that you would say or? I think yeah, I think it happens in all cities.
Yeah. Even though I haven't gotten a chance to go to Europe or India. know there are still people living on the streets also yeah anywhere yeah so yeah i see quite a few charities active right now that are supplying for food and all that so that's a good thing many people from all over also different parts of asia are coming to kuala lumpur because there's better pay over here i don't think this is a problem but do you see yeah do you see something in the city developing that is maybe going downhill i don't mind people working here Yeah, we in Malaysia, we welcome everyone to work here.
Yeah, the more the merrier. Yeah, if you are, we have, I think we have Filipinos, we have Thailands, people, Indonesians, Bangladeshis, and Pakistanis and all. Yeah. They also bring the food.
Yeah, yeah, they serve people as well. Some are good, some of them are good, some of them, you know, people, different, hot. Yeah.
Exactly, exactly. Yeah, yeah. Nice one, nice one.
I've got one more question. Do you have a message to the world or some wisdom to pass on? Do good to people. You know, if you have any, some sort of a bad attitude, just leave it.
Yeah, you know, do good to people. Be good, be kind. Yeah, the world is a good place to live, yeah.
Born and raised in KL. Yes. Nice.
So what is it like to live and work in Kuala Lumpur? That's the main topic. So can I ask you what you're doing?
I work as a hotelier, Swiss Garden Hotel. Oh, okay. Yes.
How long have you been doing this? My age is 19 until now. Oh, wow.
Okay, so your whole life you were in the hotel industry. Yes. So what is it like to live in Kuala Lumpur? My parents are still here.
I live here. So I think it's better I live here. If you and your husband work, it's okay for you. If one person works, it's not.
Is it because it's too expensive? Yes, very expensive. Okay, so.
Do you have a partner, can I ask? Pardon? Do you have a husband?
Yes, I have a husband and I have two children. Wow, that's nice. How old are your children?
24, my son. Oh wow, already? Yes, and then second, my daughter is 20. Wow, and they go to school I assume? Yes, for the UMC now.
Is that expensive for them to... Very expensive. So the government, are they paying at all? little bit? Half half.
Do you travel a little bit in Southeast Asia at all? Actually I go to Singapore because my mother is Singaporean so actually only Singapore I go there. So you don't go to Thailand? Not yet. Do you have a lot of holidays or are you working a lot?
First I want finish my child study first. Later maybe six years ago. above and then I can go travel.
First I manage my son first. So you and your husband both working hard to make your... Yes, for child first. Okay, on the sixth year, all finished the study and then maybe you can go others what you want to do. That's good, but you're managing?
Yes, you must know how to manage. I've been from seven years. Seven years already? Yes. So you're basically local now?
No, no. No, you don't say? No.
See you in the fortnight. Why did you come? Why are you here in the first place? Just to earn some money.
yeah because in back home there are not so many jobs that's why came here yeah you go back home sometimes or yeah i go three times three times a year no no three times in seven years yeah okay yeah and you're planning already to go back or yeah uh after after this in uh next two months i will go back yeah oh nice you have family here or family back home family back home oh wow that must be difficult yeah it's very difficult but no no i'm not married so it's not difficult for me but you have kids no not at all Not married yet. Ah, okay, okay, okay. It's good for me.
How is it to be like a single man in Kuala Lumpur? It's nice. Yeah? Yes. Why is it so nice?
Why? You know, it's men talk. Ah, men talk.
Yeah, okay, okay, okay. Ladies are watching also. Kuala Lumpur, you say overall it's very nice to live? Yeah, it's nice weather.
Not so hot, not so cold. Not security concerns, not racism and these kind of things. Yeah, it's nice. Good to hear.
Yeah, I feel also that... everyone is just mingling together and feel really welcome. You can see around there are so many ethnicities, so many people from different parts of the world.
Yeah. No, I think, what to say? No hate for other people.
No. They all live together. What are you doing exactly?
Actually, what are you cooking or? I'm just a chef in the kitchen. Just chef? That's a good job, no?
Or no? No, it's good. Other than the money, what are the big benefits of living in Kuala Lumpur?
There are so many things to learn here. And see the first world kind of first world like we come from a third world country like Pakistan there are so many you know not these kind of big buildings and not trains like not modern modern country but here we can see so many things and learn about future. Okay how's like the future compared to Pakistan you think? Pakistan is behind behind 10 years Pakistan India Bangladesh there's no Not so many facilities and here roads are clean. There's so many dirt.
Is it easy for someone from Pakistan to work here? What's needed for this? If you have a job and you come here and work, it's okay. You need to be invited by an employer or something. What is it like to live and work in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia?
I think we found a nice mixture of people to get an understanding what it is really like. I think the people are generally happy over here. This channel is not only showing you content in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, no we are based in in Thailand, we're showing you the beauty of Southeast Asia.
And now we are actually heading towards, slowly towards Singapore. And then we're flying back to Bangkok. We carrying on showing you the beauty of Southeast Asia, not only through travel vlogs, but also showing you different people's point of views on life while doing these street interviews.
