time so in short we need to um consider um the size of the user and and using that to choose a proper design of wheelchair for that user so again that that's that that's what I meant in the beginning that we need to consider um the um the enop ometry so um this is a general idea not of course if it's uh special needs um we always want to modify it but in general um this is uh when uh this is the index that we use when we do the uh a measurement and then choose the wheelchair for our client so basically uh for the sit width we want it to be narrow enough but not too narrow to uh to to have uh stress on the side of the hip so once you measure um on the hip and the thigh of the person you want to add two Ines so that's uh wide enough but not too wide and then the sit depth uh once you measure the puppy teal to U uh from the puy teal to the uh to the butt you want a minor uh you want a minus 2 in so to allow some space for the knee to bend and and for the back height you want to measure it all all the way up to the scapula and then and then minus it one or two inches just depending on the the need of the person or the user okay and then the chest W width and really depending on um the back rest right and then the seat height um again we want to facilitate a 909090 right so um the seat height U the foot rest should be um um 2 in um clearance from the store uh I'm sorry from the floor okay and again the and then we can uh adjust the length and the height of the foot rest so we want to facilitate uh the knee and the ninko and the hip to be 90 90 90 degrees and then arm rest again you need to afford uh a neutral um position for shoulder to relax and we want the elbow to be um in Flex to 90° so this is the general um sizing that U we we need for the wheelchair um measurement or design okay so from I have several slides that I uh adapted from the textbook so U if you want if you need more detail information U please refer to the textbook so here I just list out um some um phenomenon of body posture for example uh posterior pelv TI and then possible cause it can be low tone tight uh hamstrings uh limited range of motion and um sliding forward on seat and then um uh possible uh subjections for each um cause so I hope this can be a a handy information for you uh when you kind of working with the client and that kind of help you understand um you know what quick Solutions and what's the reason behind that okay so and then I got anterior T and then um unev p Vic and then the solution on on that you can kind of see that if it's um un flexible uh we can you know add some support to correct it or know using that lever system and then uh apply the Newton Law to to make it happen if it's uh fixed or the problem is so hard to change the posture problem so is so hard to to change then um surgical solution is one way and the other way is we use Hightech you know to compensate that and then this is um the trunk lordosis and basically you can kind of see um the the solution for that is we we want to emphasize the ankle you know we want to maintain that 909090 right so um if we want to provide back support we w't we only want to use it with a lower trunk because if it's too high then the trunk is going kyotic right so these are some uh suggestions uh for different type of uh our posture in a wheelchair so so um so when design or when evaluated a person's need for the wheelchair um we need we need we need to First consider uh the person's need and uh what what they want and uh um what is the um psychological um factor that affect this person um's using and can this person afford all that when these are when these all got sld out and you're doing doing the actual measurement you know uh you want to keep the 909090 concept in in mind and then you want to have U um as less as possible support as less support as possible uh because you want to you know you want this person to to use the body rather than kind of you know depending on U the external support unless necessary of course so here I have three um pictures for you to think about so here U um so this this this uh person um sitting on a wheelchair uh in this posture is there anything that we can make um the posture better or you know make it kind of suitable for this person and then here what can we done differently to facilitate a proper uh posture in wheelchair or in a selection of wheelchair okay so here are some things for you to think about and then this is the uh wheelchair selection
