Venturi Masks

Components of a Venturi Mask Setup

  • Aerosol mask
  • Corrugated tubing
  • Oxygen line (connects to the flow meter)
  • Venturi piece (fixed orifice device)
    • Different colors indicate different percentages of oxygen and liter flow
    • Example: Orange piece indicates 50% oxygen at 15 liters
  • Air entrainment ports piece (keeps the air holes patent)

Key Features and Principles

  • Exact FiO2 delivery: Only oxygen device that delivers exact percentages of oxygen
  • Venturi principle: Operates by using different sized orifices to mix the appropriate amount of air with oxygen
  • Fixed orifices: Specific flow rates (e.g., 15 liters for 50% oxygen)

Assembly Instructions

  1. Attach corrugated tubing to the mask.
  2. Attach the Venturi piece to the tubing.
    • The oxygen tubing connects to the Venturi piece.
  3. Ensure the air entrainment ports piece is in place to keep air holes open.
    • Prevents obstruction which could alter the oxygen percentage.

Important Considerations

  • Air entrainment ports: Must remain open to ensure correct oxygen mixing.
    • Obstruction (e.g., by sheet) increases oxygen concentration beyond intended percentage.

Other Orifices

  • Different colors represent different oxygen percentages and corresponding liter flow
    • Next segment will detail specific percentages and liter requirements.
