Prehistoric Crocodiles

[Music] we all know that crocodiles are one of the most fearsome predators in the world and to be among them would paralyze our thoughts or freeze our blood they are huge reptiles with deadly jaws and they are known for their stealth mode of attack on their prey however the saltwater crocodiles of today were only infants if we look at the prehistoric crocodiles that existed way back and they could have easily eaten humans prepare yourself for this video we are going to list down the biggest ancient crocs that have been discovered so now let's go meet the terrifying relatives of the modern crocodiles number 10 makamasaurus wrecks the biggest sea-dwelling crocodile ever found has turned up in the tunisian desert although the recovered remains are fragmentary enough remains remain in the 120 million year old rock to identify the reptile mechamosaurus species spent their lives almost entirely at sea discovered in 2016 makamasaurus rex grew to over 30 feet long and weighed about three times 9. each associates a giant prehistoric croc that existed in what is now morocco aegisus is known from only a partial braincase and skull roof this ancient crocodile has an odd shield head and paleontologist named him the shield croc aegis is thought to be the earliest ancestor of our modern african crocodiles while studying the fossils this animal is estimated to be about 30 to 32 feet in length with a 5 foot long flat and a mass of about 2.5 tons stomatosicus it is not the size that makes stomatosicas stand out but its presumed feeding strategy the upper jaw only had small teeth while the lower jaw has been suggested as being toothless with a pelican-like pouch underneath this was an extinct croc from the late cretaceous of egypt and it could grow up to 33 feet long and probably weigh between 2 to 2.5 tons however unlike most crocodiles it was difficult to determine the daily diet of the stomatosicus the only known fossils of this crop were destroyed during a bombing raid and only photographs remain number seven gripocious this crocodile is said to have lived during the middle to the late miocene period it was around 33.3 feet long but some believe that it could have grown much longer fossils indicate that gropos just weighed about 1.9 tons reasons for their extinction may have been due to weather changes during their time the soil in venezuela contained some of the largest fossils from this animal number six youth codon this fish-eating crocodile may have lived between one to eight million years ago in lake turkana it existed from the late early miocene to the early pleistocene it was a long-snouted crocodile in one of the largest fossils found in kenya most of it was estimated to be about 33 to 35 feet in length and weight three to four tons although it resembles modern-day guril crocodiles it is not related to them it features a rounded and expanded nostrum as well as sharp and slender teeth number five dinosukis recent studies have declared that this terror crocodile had teeth the size of bananas and therefore was capable of taking down even the largest dinosaurs being the largest predator in its ecosystem was so enormous that almost everything in its habitat was on the menu it could grow up to 35 to 39 feet in length and weigh 2.7 to 5.5 tons in fact for years this late cretaceous reptile was thought to be the largest crocodile that ever lived until the discovery of the truly monstrous sarcosuchus number four ramfasukus this reptile grew to about 36 feet in length and weighed three tons it lived during the miocene period and fossils were found in pakistan this croc had a unique beak like snow it was indicated that ram basukus may have been an ancestor of modern crocodiles today it possessed conical gripping teeth that were ideal for catching large slick fish it was an excellent swimmer who could likely swim at unpredictable speeds to grab fast moving fish number three marasus this was one of the most peculiar crocodilians of all time with an unusual duck face he was one of the largest prehistoric crocodiles from the maya scene of south america scientists believe they could grow to 39.4 feet they lived in venezuela and brazil about 6 million years ago it could weigh up to 8 tons however mara susha's had a weak jaw and skull structure as well as little teeth for its size they scooped up water with their broad lips and swallowed their prey hole according to evidence number two sarcosuchus also known as the super croc sarcosuchus is considered the largest crocodile to have ever lived but there are still debates on whether it was the biggest croc this animal's skull is around five feet six inches long and its total body is approximately 41 feet long it existed 135 to 112 million years ago sarcosuchus adults may have weighed more than 10 tons this croc live where the sahara desert now lies this crocodile species now thankfully extinct is said to have snatched its target with its backward pointing jaws and dragged it into the water to drown it dinosaurs were probably among its prey number one purosaurus purosaurus is one of the largest enormous crocodilians known possibly even larger than sarcosuchus it ruled central south america during the maya scene epic about 8 million years ago it may have had a few numbers of predators due to its great size and massive facts scientists estimate that each bite of this animal exerted 15 500 pounds of force changes in the ecology may have led to the extinction of the species it was estimated to be around 39 to 43 feet in length and weighed approximately nine tons now i am pretty sure we are all glad that these crocodiles are extinct hope you enjoyed the video and do hit that subscribe button if you haven't already
