These are moments when cops rescue kids from evil parents. What's going on? Who's not responsive? A girl in the middle. You guys need to move. She's still alive. I got you, baby. Come on. I got you. Like the time police discovered an 11-year-old autistic boy locked inside a homemade cage. Why do Do you like the gate open? Yes. Yeah. Soon. When When did you have this installed? A few years ago. Probably 6 years ago. Or the time police rescue a family who was taken hostage by their own father. No. Get No. Hands. Hands. Hands. Thank you. But first, we'll start with the heartbreaking case of an 11-year-old girl found begging officers to take her away from home. Why? What's going on? Why'd you run away? I don't want to be there. Why not? I'm scared to get in trouble because she goes to the extreme. Like what? What happens when you get in trouble? Sometimes she locks us in a closet. locked you in a closet. For how long? The longest I've been with her. Has it been like 4 days? 4 days. On March 15th, 2024 in Piedmont, Oklahoma, an officer found a runaway child who upon being found begged the police not to take her back home. Don't run or I'll chase you and put you in handcuffs. I know you don't. Let's go talk about it. But until you're in my car, we're not talking. Stand up. Stand up. Yes. Are you going to listen? I don't want to yell at you. I want to be nice to you, but I'm not going to chase you. Like, I'll tackle you before you have time to run. Do you understand? Okay. I don't want to do all that. I want to help you and figure out why you ran away and all that, but can we talk about at the police station? We can talk about in my car first. Okay. Do you need it? Is this any of your stuff? Okay. Let's go to my car. Noticing that she was morbidly and showed signs of magement, the officer assured her that they would help her. But on the way back to her house, the child shared some concerning information about her mother. Why? What's going on? Why'd you run away? I don't want to be there. Why not? She's She's scared. She's scary. I'm scared to get in trouble because she goes to the extreme. She goes very far when she gets in trouble. Like what? What happens when you get in trouble? She lock sometimes she locks us in a closet. Locked you in a closet for how long? The longest I've been in there has been like 4 days. 4 days. And what did you get in trouble for that made that happen? I was making my sister's food. You were making them food? I was sneaking my sister's sweet that she gets from school. Why'd you get in trouble for that? Because I'm not supposed to. The scared teen's description of her mom locking her in a closet for sneaking in food set off alarm bells in the cop. Such accusations, if true, were enough to send the mom to jail. But investigation would soon reveal that it was only the tip of the iceberg. Upon conducting a search of 43-year-old foster mom Tina Ramirez's home, the cops found locks on the pantries and refrigerator, multiple cameras across the house, pepper spray, and a taser. Have you ever locked your kids in the closet? No. Okay. Why would they tell me they've been locked in the closet? All of my kids said that. More than one? No, I've never locked any of my kids in the closet. Okay. Typically, what does dinner look like here? Um, I don't cook every single night, but dinner the kids will do either. Most of the time the little ones like pizza, hot pockets, chicken nuggets. I'm being honest. Like I don't think you are. I'm scared. Well, probably cuz you've been abusing your kids. No, I I look how they are. You tell me you feed those kids. I do. Enough. I wouldn't say enough. They like to eat noodles. How what kid can get fat off of noodles? My kids, I feed my kids noodles all the time. They're fatter than hell. At least not skin and bones like this. Just like the oldest child who ran away, the other kids were maled, accused Tina of physical abuse, and described seven prior attempts to run away. However, the most damning evidence was a letter written by one of the kids that revealed several chilling details about what they went through at home. I found this letter and I'm sure you've read it. It was in your closet. Tell me about these letters. Sure, absolutely. I mean, why why is she saying all this horrible stuff is happening to her if she does that? That's how she vents, right? I mean, she's Is it the truth? I mean, those are old. I don't know. Like, she's she's talking about being up. She's talking about having scissors to her throat. Talking about pulling you off of her and you telling her you would have That's when we had an altercation, right? We had an altercation with scissors. No, there was no scissors. She was coming at me. Okay. We can't pull it off because she was holding my hair, right? And yeah, that did happen. That did happen. Yes. Dear God, I think she's going to I didn't do anything. You and I both know that. I have been talking to you, praying, and trying to be polite, helpful, and respectful. I've been shutting out all the bad thoughts, but it's no use. But I I won't let their negativity and discouragement stop me. I want to change, but if she kills me, I know that I was making changes to make me better. She held scissors to my throat. Scissors underlined to my throat. She left on my neck along with from her nails. She the inside of my lip. And now one of my front teeth is moving slightly. My nose is clogged with blood and my ear is bright red with plenty of scratches on it. And it hurts so bad. After the officer read aloud the contents of the letter, Tina was clearly taken aback, giving him the perfect opportunity to push her into confessing some incriminating details. How is any reasonable person supposed to think you're not kid? Okay. Mental abuse, I would say yes. Physical, no. Has there been altercations? Yes, there has. Like you said, I feed them, but it's not the food that they get. If you're feeding them, why are they? Have you talked to Have you talked to them about that? I have. And what did they say? That's not what we're talking about. I'm asking you questions right now. If you're feeding them, why are they? Did you Are you eating? You can't look at me and tell me they're eating enough. Tell me they're eating enough. There's a time we thought they had parasites. I even bought them parasite medicine. It's around here somewhere. Did they go to the doctor? No. When's the last time they've been to a physician? Because it's been a while. Because How long is a while? See, I think the last time for was to get a shot in the dentist to get her retainer taken out. So, maybe 2 or 3 years ago. It was wild how Tina would admit to inflicting mental abuse and getting into physical fights with her kids, but could not accept that she wasing them as well. Look how they are. You thought they had parasites and you didn't take them to the doctor. She told I've had parasites. You should go to the doctor if you have parasites. You should take your children to the doctor if they're skin and bones. Tina, you're right. You're right. Okay. You feed them. Why aren't you feeding them enough? What is enough? Because like I explained earlier, they were gorging. Like their cameras locks. They're running away constantly. They're writing letters, but like because they're out of options. They don't know what else to do anymore. Like they're expressing their feelings on paper because they've got no one to talk to cuz they don't go to school and they don't go to counseling and they don't go to the doctor and all they do is sit around here and get stared. And what am I supposed to tell anybody that asked me why you shouldn't go to prison? What do I tell somebody? Dina, let's let's reconvene tomorrow cuz I'm getting frustrated and that's unprofessional and and I apologize for that. The interview went in circles for a while, eventually causing the officer to lose his cool and end the session for the day. However, before leaving, he asked one last question that revealed some more alarming information. Several of your kids confirmed that you have one of these kids with that taste. No. As I was telling her earlier, we do that, right? And we even do it with the dogs. So, physically, no, I'm not. Like, how close have you put it to the kids? Um, one time I got real close on accident cuz we were playing around, but as far as No, it was shocking how Tina casually admitted to using the on her kids while playing around, showing just how normalized child was in her household. Medical evaluations later revealed that one of the children had scars from being tased and hit by a with all the mounting evidence. The cops returned on March 19th to arrest Tina and her 26-year-old husband, Anthony Abizako, on multiple charges of child ab and neglect. You and Anthony are coming with me and we're going to jail today. We're going to jail. Yep. Okay. I'm just being straight with you. I don't want to argue and fight and all that, but that's what that's what's going on this morning. [Music] Tina also faced an additional charge of assault and battery with a weapon. The children have been taken under emergency care by their biological grandmother, who is currently trying to win permanent custody over them. In the next case, cops try to save two children from the clutches of addicted parents. Hey, sorry. She's still alive. She's still alive. On the morning of March 10th, officers at Silver City, New Mexico, responded to a 911 call about a whole family being unresponsive within their home. Grant County 911. What is the address of the emergency? 97 Quail Run. Okay. Tell me exactly what happened. I'm staying with some friends right now and they are completely You have one a little girl who's not responsive at all. Then they have a 7-year-old boy who is mostly responsive. I was able to get him on a chair, but I don't know what's going on. I really don't. I woke up and I heard uh someone yelling, "Ow, help." And so I went and I I was trying to help him. The officer who opened the door to the house would have no idea what he was walking into. What's going on? Some of the the people in this room right here that aren't responding. They're not responding. There's two. Where in this one? Who's here? Sheriff's office. Yeah. What's going on? Not much. Sorry, I'm really, really stiff this morning. I can't get up right. Laying on the floor of the filthy, cluttered room were 34year-old Music Adame and 39-year-old Matthew Brinham, who seemed to be in a daysaze. The cop was on the lookout for their daughter, who was reportedly unresponsive, but she was nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, this was not because she had managed to get away. Are you guys on anything? No. No. What? No. I'm just really stiff from What's wrong with him? He's tired. Is he awake? He moved from here over to there. He is awake. Okay. Who's not responsive? Not responsive. The girl in the mail. She's responsive. Let me see. Come here. You guys need to move. Move. Oh, shoot. You guys need to get up now. Yeah. Yeah. Get up. It wasn't until the officer checked between Matthew and music that he noticed a 5-year-old girl lying unconscious under her parents. She needed help immediately if she was going to survive. But the greatest obstacle to saving her life would turn out to be her own parents. We're getting up. We're getting up. Get up. We're getting up. I'm getting up. Let's go. Get up. Yes. Yes. I'm getting up. Let's go. Hurry up. Get up. I'm going. You guys need to get up. Let's go. Hurry up. I'm going. I'm going. I'm going. Get up. Stand up. Stand up. I can't. Yes, you can. Stand up. Stand up. I'm trying to stand up. I'm trying to stand up. I'm trying to stand up. I'm trying to stand up. Same thing. As time went ticking on, the officer grew impatient and grabbed the still unresponsive daughter, allowing hope to creep in. Damn it. I got you. I got you, baby girl. I got you. I got you, baby. Find out. Hey, she's still alive. Hey, start CPR. She's still alive. She's still alive. Believing it possible to revive her, the cops performed CPR and administered Narcan to reverse symptoms of possible drug overdose. However, it soon became clear that she had already passed away. Shockingly, Matthew and music were put in jail two months after the incident. The official cause of the daughter's death was ruled as carbon monoxide poisoning. She likely suffocated from the fumes released by the burning coal that was being used to heat the room without proper ventilation, a practice that the parents were already warned against by the authorities. Thankfully, their other son, a 7-year-old boy, survived the incident. Both parents were charged with multiple counts of char. Up next is a case in which cops found an autistic child left abandoned in a cage by his negligent parents. Why do do you like the gate open? Yes. Yeah. Soon. On April 23rd, 2025 in Henderson, Nevada, a truency officer was making routine wellness checks on children who had not shown up to school for several days across the district. One of these kids was the 11-year-old son of Jeffrey and Misty Scandlin, who was diagnosed with severe autism and attended a special needs school. Upon arriving at their residence, the parents reportedly did not open the door for over 40 minutes. During that time, the truency officer heard a child screaming along with banging and rattling sounds, which made her feel that something was definitely not right. By the time Jeffrey opened the doors, cops had arrived at the scene. What time did you go to bed? two three this morning. Yeah. Okay. So, it's not horrible. You got some sleep. Yeah. Uh even though the kids might have kept you awake some. So, I'm just here uh because they asked me to be here. Okay. Based on the situation, the kids haven't been in school. One of them is being home homeschooled uh for the number of days that they haven't been in school. So, they got a few questions based on what they need to do as a school representative. Okay. For truency. Okay. Does that make sense? Yeah. Can I I can come in? Yes. Okay. Um, he's have some moment. So, he's a big kid. Probably got some meat to him. Oh, yeah. After explaining the situation to Jeffrey, the cops entered the house, and what they saw inside was beyond shocking. One side of the house had been barricaded by metal bars running from floor to ceiling, essentially forming a makeshift prison. Inside the cage was the autistic son, sitting on a couch and wearing nothing but a diaper. Upon noticing the cops, he made sure to express his unhappiness the only way he knew how. A gate open. Oh, the gate open. You have You beautiful voice. I love to hear you talk. Can we talk about the words, you know? Yeah. The words, you know. Gate open. You like the gate open. Why do Do you like the gate open? Yes. Get them in. Do you want the gate open? If you like the gate open. Yeah. Soon. See you real soon. So, guess what? Guess what? Soon. Soon. Gate open. Yeah. Soon gate open. Gate open. Yeah. Soon. It was bad enough that a child was locked in a cage with no way out. But to make matters worse, the cops noticed feces smeared over the walls and trash scattered on the floor. We had to do this because it keeps him from kicking holes. Mhm. Everywhere in the house. Does he have like uh he doesn't hit his head on the walls or anything like that? No. No. Okay. Um when when did you have this installed then? Oh, a few years ago. Probably six years ago. Oh, wow. Okay. So, he was strong at a young age. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Jeez, buddy. According to Jeffrey, the only way to handle his son's violent outbursts was by keeping him in the cage for the past 6 years. But why the area inside the cage was so filthy was still unanswered. Yeah. When was the last time you guys cleaned his gate area? his gate area. It's been like 2 3 weeks. Okay. What about his room? Uh his room, he hasn't really been staying much in it, so it's been a while. So, obviously, he sleeps mostly in the the gate area sounds. Yeah. It was baffling how his parents had gone so long without cleaning the enclosure and allowed their son to sleep in those unhygienic conditions. When asked if they made any attempts to seek services to better take care of their child, Jeffrey's answer revealed his grave ignorance. Are you receiving or going after any sort of other services? Does anyone come in home? Do you guys go anywhere for like behavioral therapy or anything like that? No. Okay. Have you guys tried any of that before or uh No, we haven't. Obvious to anyone that these were not safe living conditions, the son was taken to the hospital to get checked out while their other three kids were taken by child protective services. Somehow, Jeffrey and Misty Scandlin were only charged with one gross misdemeanor count of child neglect and endangerment and sentenced to one year of probation. In the next case, police rescue a boy who was taken hostage by his own father. Hey, hands hands hand. He'll go through all of us. On February 3rd, 2021 in Michigan, the Detroit Police Department received a call from a distressed woman hiding from her husband. Detroit 911. What happened, ma'am? In the head with a gun. He hit you in the head with a gun. Okay, hold on one moment. He had two right here. He got two He got two guns there. Yes. to be quiet when they come. Tell them to be quiet when they come. Yes. The woman spoke in a whisper during the call, indicating just how dangerous the situation was for herself and her two children. Some moments later, she would call again and things would quickly spiral out of control. My husband downstairs me and my kids are flocked upstairs. Police. I just called. I left the doors open so the police can come. He got both of my guns downstairs. He has in my head. He has them. The police are outside, ma'am. They're outside. They're pulling up now. Police tell them to come in and get him. He's in the tell him be careful. The first He's in the DN through the living room. He got two guns up under the pillow. Has two what, ma'am? Two guns. They Yes. They know what they're doing. There's more than one vehicle out there that's setting up a perimeter. Okay? They need to handle their business cuz they come up with guns. Ma'am, I need you to listen to me. Okay? I need you to listen. Okay? They're going to take care of me. Please, please, before you wake up. At this point, the police had already reached the house and needed time to set up a perimeter. It was critical that neither the police nor the woman give anything away to the suspect. So the dispatcher tried calming her down. Soon the cops began knocking on the door. Tell him to come in. He talk about that. He about to send him away. Don't look and leave. Okay. I'm just I'm letting him know what you're saying to me now. He's saying he is not going to jail. You said he say he's not going to jail. Yes, exactly. Okay. All of us. They killing them and me and my kids. Seeing the police at his doorstep, the suspect knew he was in trouble, but he would not go down without a fight. He went straight upstairs where the others were hiding and tried opening the locked door. Once the woman opened the door, all hell broke loose. I'm about to come out. Now I can't get out the door. Get in the stack. I need a stack. Ready? Who's on point? You got You got the gun. You're going through. Get down. Get down. Hey, get the over. Hands. Hands. Hands. Hands. Hands. Hands. [Music] Upon hearing the screams, the cops sprung into action. It took multiple armed officers to subdue the husband who managed to repeatedly wife before being stopped. After arresting the man, the cops found the scared children upstairs and the body cam footage captured a heart touching moment. Police Thank you. Oh god. He was going to shoot all of us. We won't let that happen. You guys are okay. Thank you. Please. You guys are okay. Who else is up here with you? Nobody. We was hiding in there. Okay. You guys are okay now. Okay. Yes. Thank you. He goes to our mom. Okay. Well, you guys are okay now. Um, mom's going to be okay. We're going to take care of dad for you guys. Okay. We can only hope that the kids were able to lead a better life after their horrible father was taken away. In the next case, a cop risks his own life to protect a child from a reckless driver who tries to evade the law. Little guy, you got to be sitting the back. What I'm going to do is I'm going to have you take some come towards me, bro. It was midnight on July 10th, 2024 in Buffalo, New York when police pulled over a car for a speeding violation and tinted windows. The driver was 25-year-old Devon Roberts, who was on his way back to his sister's place with his younger cousin in tow. What seemed like a routine stop would quickly take a turn as the officers were about to uncover a series of red flags they couldn't ignore. Hey, how's it going? How you doing, sir? I'm doing well. Can you roll back what was down for me, man? Yes, sir. Thanks, man. Oh, man. Little guy. You got to be sitting in the back. He's six. He's six. Yeah. Yeah. How much did you weigh though, huh? How much did you weigh? I don't know. This is my little cousin. Okay. Upon approaching the car, officer Ronald Ammerman immediately noticed the little boy in the passenger seat who was far too small to be sitting in the front. To make matters worse, the child wasn't even wearing a seat belt. Uh, you can pull over? No. You want my license, please? Whose car Whose car is this? This is my uh sister car. Okay. There's no registration. For real? Yeah. Oh, the registration looks like it's expired. Let me come here. Maybe not, actually. No, it's not. You're good. It's not. But um I'm about to say we just pulled you over. Go a high rate of speed, man. I want to see the kick get hurt and your tints are illegal. Okay. Okay. Well, there's my sister. Who's you? Yeah, I understand that. Uh just just rate of speed as well. You got your license on you? Nah, I don't. I got a uh screenshot over there. Here, you can look me up, bro. Do you mind if I go look at the computer? No problem. Oh, you can write it down. You can write it down. Okay. Do you have a Is it valid? Yes. You don't have a New York State one, right? No. No. I'm from I get pulled over all the time, sir. It's straight by every district. I I believe it's every district. I swear on my damn mind. Devon failed to produce a physical driver's license and instead gave a picture of it on his phone. He tried to play it cool by swearing he knew it was perfectly valid because he got pulled over almost every day. But before running it through the system, Ammerman asked him a simple question that would end up raising suspicion. Uh there's nothing car we worry about. Yes. There's nothing in the car we have to worry about. No sir. No weapons. No. No. No drugs. Sir, I'm just asking you. Sir, you did a check in the back. Just a check in the truck. Like, listen. Listen a little, bro. While Devon denied having any illegal items in the car, the little boy's shady statements seemed to suggest otherwise. For the moment, Devon would diffuse the situation by laughing it off as a joke. But Ammerman couldn't shake the feeling that something was off and signaled the other officer to stay on high alert. Oh, man. It's saying you don't have a license uh in either state. I have, sir, I don't I don't know. Is there anything wrong with your license? You have my dead mom. I never had You don't have it physically with you the car? I don't. I'm sorry. Okay. I'm going to have you take some bound come towards me. We're going to try and run your name a different way and see if I can find it. Pop up some other way. Okay. For sure. At this point, officer Emerman was probably preparing to slap Devon with a fine for speeding and driving without a license. But he failed to realize that he just put his life in real danger by opening the car door. I'm going. While the officer was still holding the door, Devon slammed the gas pedal in an attempt to flee. He would ignore all of the cops pleased to stop, accelerating to speeds of over 60 mph. The events that followed would unfold just as fast. Shots fired. Shots fired. Let's get in the car still. Get right. Officer Ammerman was clinging to the side of the car for almost 30 seconds when he tried to put his foot on the brakes, but Devon started kicking him and tried to reach for his gun, leaving him with no choice but to shoot the driver five times, making Devon finally let go of the wheel. Come here. Come here. Come here. Come here, baby. Come here. My phone. I got you. I'll get it. My phone. I got it. I'll get it. I'll get it. Okay. You okay? Yes. Okay. You're okay. My phone. You're okay. My phone. Get some more tires over to my phone. Stay right here for a second. Did you get my car? Remarkably, the first thing that the cop did after tumbling out of the car was to check on the boy. Fortunately, the kid was uninjured, but the same could not be said for Devon. Help him. Help him. Is that a gun? I don't know where he's at. I don't know where he's at. Is that a gun? Does he have a gun? I don't know. I was in the car with him. I got I got one left. I got blood. Suffering heavy blood loss, Devon was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A subsequent search warrant of the car revealed a loaded handgun. Devon also had a history with law enforcement with prior charges of firstdegree attempted assault and secondderee criminal possession of a weapon.
