Tibia Anatomy ex 5 lab

Hey all, Professor McCurdy here covering the appendicular skeleton. We're currently on the tibia. We've got two tibias. This tibia is the right tibia and this one is the left. For me, at first it was hard to figure out which tibia was which. I had to figure out which side of the tibia was medial and which was lateral. And what ultimately helped me is knowing that the tibia is the lateral bone of the leg. And in your ankle, you've got these two kind of ball-shaped structures. which would be the two malleoli or malleoluses. I'm not quite sure of the plural there. But the one that attaches to the tibia has to be the medial malleolus because the tibia is the medial bone, and that lets you know which side of the bone is medial and which side is the lateral side. That's really helpful because one of the things you need to identify is Medial condyle versus the lateral condyle, right? The medial one is the one on the same side as the medial malleolus. In between the two condyles, you've got the intercondylar eminence. On the anterior side of the bone, you've got the tibial tuberosity. It's where the patellar ligament attaches. This ridge here is called the anterior crest. And I believe that's it as far as the markings you'll need to be able to identify.
