Preparation for Isha Kriya

  • Posture:
    • Sit cross-legged with a comfortable, erect spine.
    • Use a backrest if needed, but avoid a headrest.
    • Facing east is recommended for additional benefits.
    • Hands should rest on thighs with palms facing upwards.
    • Slightly upturned face with closed eyes, focus mildly between eyebrows.

Stages of Isha Kriya

Stage 1: Breathing

  • Duration: 7 to 11 minutes
  • Instructions:
    • Inhale slowly while mentally saying, "I am not the body" (inhalation duration should match thought duration).
    • Exhale slowly while saying, "I am not even the mind" (matching exhalation duration with thought).

Stage 2: Sound Vibration

  • Duration: 7 repetitions
  • Instructions:
    • Utter the sound "AHHHHH" 7 times with mouth wide open, exhaling fully with each sound.
    • Sound should resonate from below the navel, loud enough to feel the vibration.

Stage 3: Stillness

  • Duration: 5 to 6 minutes

    • Sit with a slightly upturned face and maintain a mild focus between eyebrows.
