Overview
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely removing and replacing the fingerprint reader in a Framework Laptop. It covers necessary preparations, disassembly, installation, and reassembly steps.
Preparation and Power Down
- Power off the Framework Laptop via Windows or Linux shutdown options.
- Unplug the power cable from the USB-C Expansion Card.
- Close the lid and place the laptop upside down on a soft, non-marring surface.

- Place the module in the correct position.
- Use the PH0 bit to secure the fastener in the new Fingerprint Reader.
- Insert and secure the Fingerprint Cable with the black latch.
Securing and Reassembling Components
- Place the silver bracket back over the module and fasten it with three T5 screws.
- Ensure the Touchpad Cable is fully inserted and secured with the black latch.
- Flip and align the Input Cover on the Bottom Cover; use light pressure to fit (covers are magnetic).
- Close the laptop, turn it upside down, and re-tighten the five bottom fasteners (do not over-tighten).
Recommendations / Advice
- Avoid disconnecting the battery connector unless replacing the battery, mainboard, or speakers to prevent accidental damage.
