Hello, Namaste everybody. My name is Sandhya Pradhan. I have cleared the Sikkim Combined Recruitment Examination 2022 for the post of Undersecretary, Ranked B. Today I have made this video to share the strategy for general studies for all the exams conducted by SPSE. Today I am here bringing with you all this video because a lot of you all have asked, all of the aspirants have asked me how do I prepare for the exams. Not only for the combined exams, but they have also asked me what is the GS or the general studies or a general knowledge strategy for other exams like the JEE exam or the cooperative inspector exam or statistical inspector.
So this guidance, whichever I'm giving, it's not only for the combined or for undersecretary or accounts officer, but it's for all the exams conducted by SPSC, the general studies that you can refer to. So first of all we'll be moving to the syllabus of the general studies for SPAC exams. So there is no such specific syllabus but we'll refer to the syllabus of the combined recruitment examination that was given to us in 2022. So this is the syllabus for the preliminary examination as you all can see. So we have the paper 1 that is the general studies and the paper 2 that is the aptitude that is of 200 marks. So, all the exams conducted in SPSC, whether it is a combined recruitment, or a gadget officer, or a simple exam, you will get questions from the same syllabus.
Your main questions are History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Science, and your current office. It's just that the level of question is different. You will get one question, Combined recruitment is a little higher end, but if you look at normal LDC, ARS, it comes from here. It's a little easy to medium, but there is also a lot of hard work.
So that's it, your syllabus is the same. It's not like you have to study another one, it's not like that. And another is the paper 2, aptitude test is your mathematics section. Mathematics as well as English So, your main course is called CSAT CSAT is just a qualifying paper in UTSC But it can make a huge difference Because some people fail to qualify for CSAT And you have to give up this exam But you have to give up other exams like Accounts Club If you take SI exam in future or if you take Jailor exam or Sub Fire Officer exam Mathematics portion is also significantly asked in those exams That's why you cannot ignore the portion of Mathematics and Science Because the weightage of those exam is also mentioned in each and every exam Now we will move towards how to start with SPSC preparation but if you are a beginner I would like to give you a guidance for exams that you have never prepared before.
If you are already from an arts background, if you have knowledge regarding history, geography, political science, you can directly jump to the books which I refer to later. But if you are from a science background, an engineer, you have left your arts subject when you were in class 10. It will be very difficult for you to understand this because I myself am from a science background and it will be difficult for me to cope up with this. But in order to understand the topics, to understand what is it and what is not, you need to refer to the NCRTs.
From class 6 to 12, you have roughly to refer to the NCRTs. There are many advantages to referring to the NCRTs. One of the main advantages is that you have to Everyone understands what is and what is not.
And second is that there are a lot of times a lot of questions comes from NCRT. NCRT is such an important source not only for the education exam but also for any exam. NCRT is a very important source.
For that, we are giving you the link ncrt.nic.in because All of you can buy these books in the market. So, by going to that link, you can download all the books from class 6 to 12, from each and every history, quality, science, etc. and you can read them in PDF form. And now we are moving on to the book list and resources.
This is the main question that everyone is asking me What to read, what not to read, what is the booklist, what are the resources I will tell you one thing There is no fixed resources or there is no fixed booklist That you can read this and pass But this is from my own personal knowledge And I will discuss with others what I feel is the best I will share that booklist with you Most importantly, we are moving to the Indian polity. There are so many basic questions in the Indian polity. In any exam, there are so many basic questions in the Indian polity. Especially in the combined exams, there is a lot of weightage in the polity.
And for your polity, the ultimate book is of Lakshmi Kant. Indian polity by M. Lakshmi Kant.
I think this is the 7th edition of the book You can order it online from Amazon or Flipkart But I would say, don't jump directly into this book You should also check out some of the NCRTs Because if you directly jump into this book, many people won't understand You will panic So, jump into the book where there are no NCRTs Plus, this book is very thick There are many chapters But I would say How many chapters are more important? The first few chapters are very important. The chapter on fundamental rights is very important.
On DPSP is very important. The chapter on Panchat and municipalities is more important. The chapter on the president is more important.
You can watch that too. I will be sharing further with you all which chapters are important in Lakshmi Kanth. One of the most important thing is that you should watch the articles separately. but there are times when They have asked you directly what article is related to what So when you are studying, you should be looking at the articles Not all the articles but at least the important articles in the constitution That's why for your Indian politics, you have to refer only one source Like Lakshmi Khan, you have to refer the book which prepares the exam This book is not only for your prelims but also for mains And now we are moving to the history part.
History is such a subject that we all have a little knowledge about history. And your history is divided into four parts. Your ancient history, medieval history, your modern history and your world history.
It is divided into four parts. But if we look at the perspective of prelims, the main is your ancient, medieval, modern history and art and culture. Oni?
First of all, you have to study Ancient and Medieval History. You can also learn a few books of Ancient and Medieval History from R.S. Sharma and other authors. But I think it will take a lot of time. That's why this book is called Ancient and Medieval History.
This is a book by Class 11th NCRT, Tamil Nadu. I also read this book as a topper. I read this book and personally this book helped me a lot.
Whatever knowledge I had for Ancient and Medieval History, it was all from this book. So this is one book that will provide you with all the knowledge relating to Ancient and Medieval. After that, we will move to Modern History.
Modern History is so important, you have seen it. Even in the exams, there is a lot of weightage of Modern History. Honey?
For modern history, you just have to refer to one book Spectrum's A Brief History of Modern India You can read this book online, in Flipkart, Amazon This book is very important It is the only book that covers your full syllabus Next is Indian Art and Culture I don't refer to this book for other exams You don't have to ask for this book But if you are preparing for Under Secretary or Accounts Officer I will refer to this book because in this exam, art and culture are very important The book is by Nitin Singhania You can refer to this book In this book, not all the chapters are important The first chapter is about Indian art and architecture It is very important because it is about caves, temple architecture, Harappan civilization So that is very important If you move to the chapters later, Indian dance forms, 8 classical dance forms, what are the other dance forms of various native states, Indian music, and in the last chapters, Indian schools of philosophy are important. Not all the chapters are important, selected chapters are important, but all of them are important. The first chapter is Indian art and architecture.
sculpture, architecture, caves etc. It is the foremost most important book You must watch that chapter with pleasure Now, your geography In geography, many people ask me to read Masjid Hussain's book or not It's your own choice If you all have a lot of time and you all feel like I will do it, I will do it You will do it but I don't think it's a cost-benefit ratio So what were my ultimate sources for geography? First of all, this is a class 11 NCRT India Physical Environment This is such a good NCRT, full of India's... your physical environment from the mountains of India to the rivers of India to the landscapes all the cover of soils about each and everything it covers up about India any static portion in answer writing this will really help you and after that there are two books of class 12 one is fundamentals of human geography in human geography you will get about census about the population of the people. So this book is also very important.
After that, India, People and Economy. In this, various types of economy are mentioned. So, primary sector, tertiary sector, secondary sector, what is the basic work of the population of India, otherwise, about the industries, mines, about the Dugapur, about the minerals, all these are in this book.
So, for me, for geography, it was these three books. Along with this, my knowledge. What does it combine with?
It is the map. You will get encyclopedia and maps Whatever you see, the map is Whenever you are studying Your specific chapter or specific topic Always see the map Even what I used to do is I used to read about India About rivers in India About the plateau About whatever I read I used to always look at the map That I have an idea Where is this? Where it is? And then I know Even in the world There is nothing Just look at it where is this mountain? if you have that idea, it will really help you a lot that's why you have to study your map whenever you are studying geography, you have to refer to the map after that, we are coming to the economy economy is such a topic that most of the questions related to economy are related to current affairs of economics anywhere.
But you need to be clear about the basics of economics For that basics, there is a book called Indian Economic Development It is from class 11 NCRTA And another book is from class 12 Introducing Macroeconomics This book is so important that you will get to learn each and every concept from this book Concepts relating to inflation, concepts relating to GDP, concepts relating to various Bank rate, repo rate, you can get all the insights from this book And your MCQs will come from that part only You may think that if your bank rate increases, how will it affect the borrowers? Because of that, your concept should be clear If your inflation increases, how will it affect the lenders? This question will arise They will always try to ask you conceptual questions when it comes to economy so that we could concept to clear your basic concepts, this book is called Introducing Macroeconomics I refer you to these two books but you can check out some concepts from YouTube relating to report, reverse report, MSP, gender budgeting you can check out these books and check out your census too and your budget is also a bit expensive like India's budget or the economic survey that comes out every year that is roughly it's not like you have to remember everything but roughly you can come to MCQ at any time and in answer writing you can write something and this year about education, my question is this year our government has given so many questions to our education sector from our budget And there is a famous author Mrunal Thakur who has published a lot of videos on YouTube related to economics.
You can follow him. There are a lot of videos on YouTube. You can watch those videos.
It will help you a lot. But I would say that the most important thing is not to go into economics. If you read the book carefully, you will find that there is not much cost-benefit analysis. Now, let's talk about science and technology.
For science and technology, I have not referred to a specific book. because we know There are many people who has referred to a specific book But I would say that you should study NCRTs Mainly, study NCRTs from class 6 to 10 Because, from 6 to 10, you will think a lot in the exam What is nuclear or like about Newton's law You will think about that That's why you think about chromosomes That's why you study class 6 to 10 If you study class 6 to 10, most of the topics are already covered there What else can we do? If we look at the technology part, we can follow up on the current office. What is happening around the world? What latest developments are happening in science and technology?
What new rocket has been launched? What new things have come up in space exploration? Who has won the Nobel Prize?
What new submarines have been launched? What new developments have come up in the Internet of Things, about machine learning and development. That's why I suggest you to use the internet extensively Use the internet to follow up on the new things happening in the world Because in a specific book, you will get everything you want And after that Environment is such a subject that nowadays the environment is getting so much weightage considering the climate change in our world, global warming etc. you see that a lot of questions are being asked from the environment and which book to refer in the environment what I did was, I referred to the environment book of Shankar IAS and what many people do is, the biology book of class 12 In the last few chapters, you have explained about Ecosystems and Ecotones And you have referred to this book In this book, like I said, you don't have to read everything You have to read it carefully and carefully You have to remember all the concepts like which chapters are more important What is Ecotone?
What is Ecosystem? Or like various other concepts like Endangered Animals What is Wildlife Protection Act? and co-op conventions for that, in this book, I have explained everything in detail about acts, IUCN list, everything they have mentioned so this book is important for you enjoy reading it it will cover up most of the topics for the environment but there is one more thing in environment you have to follow current affairs because every year there are co-op conventions So, you should know which countries you are in and what are the resolutions.
What is the stand of India? What are the new projects? World Bank invests a lot for green energy. We invest for green climate.
You should be knowing about all these things. What is happening around the world relating to climate change? How to reverse change the climate?
You have to follow up on the new projects like International Solar Alliance That is the current affairs part Next is current affairs Current affairs is that there is no specific book You can say that there is no specific book, article or magazine I will cover everything after reading this There is no such thing They can ask you anything under the sun In current office You can ask anything That's why I said For current office If you want to study in Sikkim Don't study from SSC, Sikkim static and current One of us is in MonoShot He has launched it And it's very good I too During my preparation, I referred this especially Sikkim specific. It is so good. Sikkim specific tells you everything about what is happening inside Sikkim.
And we are taking Sikkim exam so we can ask Sikkim questions. That is why Sikkim specific is the best. From there, we will get a monthly magazine from Ardha 247. You can refer that.
This is a basic one-liner question. I can suggest more for you. I used to read Vision IAS's monthly magazine. But what I realized in Vision IAS's monthly magazine is that UPSC exam is much more beneficial for other exams.
But when you are preparing for exams like Sikkim, there are not many benefits. So why to waste your time in that? The most important thing to note is that Refer to YouTube videos on monthly current affairs Like I told you before, various classes are there Like Parcham classes And there is also your Adda 247 And there is also a current affairs updated In that, they are doing monthly compilations every month W you can refer to that, it is a one-liner and it will be helpful for you in any exam and another thing is that current of face is so vast that it is impossible for you to cover everything you can think about anything and you don't take that tension that I don't know so much about current of face don't think like that you don't know, no one knows about that maybe one or two people know but most of them would not know that it is very difficult Another thing to note is that don't miss the obvious question.
There were two events in India recently, the G20 summit. What is the theme of the G20 summit? There were the Olympics, Paris Olympics, Paralympics, the rocket launch, the moon landing.
It's something that everyone knows. The award won by the states, the latest government schemes, this is something everyone knows. That's why you shouldn't forget the main thing. Don't look at who won what, how many won in football, how many players went to basketball team, who won in weightlifting. You should look at those things but don't focus on them.
There are so many names you can't refer to. You can't remember all the things but you have to remember the main things that you have to remember as you have to remember all the things If you don't remember all the things, you can't do good questions But easy and basic questions, most of them will be able to do So don't miss out on that Don't waste too much time in current affairs You have to do cost benefit analysis I agree, there are questions from current affairs But it's not. It doesn't cover the whole syllabus, it is just a part of the...
This one, you can invest 1 hour daily, or you can do it for half an hour, but don't give it too much time. And the other thing is, as a child, many people have a habit of reading newspapers. That's good, right? Read newspapers.
The Hindu or the Indian Express, there are newspapers of Sikkim, read those too. If you have time, read it. If you don't have time, don't read it. But if you read newspaper everyday, you will be updated on the latest news.
And it will be a good opinion, a strong opinion, which will help you a lot in your interviews. And if you are over serious, you have time, I will say that read at least one newspaper everyday. But try to read one newspaper everyday. After that, there is Sikkim GK. We are taking Sikkim exam, so we have to study a lot about Sikkim.
Because the whole question is about Sikkim. And not only for the prelims, but for the interview and even for the main subjects. We think about Sikkim static and general knowledge.
Sikkim GK has high benefit. I had read this book in preparation R. Gupta's book You can buy this in the market I bought this from MG Mac My friend had bought it for me So what is in this book?
You can see the census of Sikkim You can see the latest census of Sikkim You can see the kings of Sikkim You can see the first formations of Sikkim Otherwise various festivals in Sikkim The important personalities of Sikkim The geography of Sikkim What is this book about? music Everything is in this book. It is very helpful. And apart from that, they have a course in space revision. They teach you history, geography, miscellaneous state related, quality achievements of the state and new projects.
It will be very beneficial for you. I have also followed this course extensively in my time. And what happens in this is not only for your prelims or mains. Even during my interview, they asked me a lot of questions relating to state.
Because ultimately we are going to work under the state government, so we have to think about the state. Through this course and that book, I was able to answer a lot of questions about Sikkim. One of the main things in Sikkim is the achievements of the state and new projects.
Sikkim awards, international awards, new projects, new schemes like AMA schemes, Vastalya schemes Next year is very important, 50 years of statehood What is the theme of statehood? What is the symbol of the thing? Who will be involved in Sikkim? Otherwise, what we achieved in these 50 years as a state? We need to know all that Thank you so much everybody I hope you all like this video and please subscribe to our crack SPAC channel and through this channel you subscribe, share, and more I will be sharing more strategies why I did this video specifically is to because in our time whenever I wanted to give this combined examination there was no such extensive strategy and I had to follow UPAC But where in reality UPAC and state are very different You can see the difference between MCQ and UPAC MCQ is a little better than state Plus, Sikkim has a state specific basis And you know that in our time, the syllabus was totally changed In 2017 exam, syllabus was changed We had to figure out everything our own way The reason why we brought this is because you are our new aspirants you don't have to find the right path you can find a place where you can find everything and the most important thing is I have created a community on WhatsApp General Studies plus Sociology plus Anthropology I am giving strategies relating to general studies, sociology, optional, anthropology not only that, but also about other optional We are sharing our book lists with our toppers.
