Remember your first four units drama, poetry, non-fictional prose writings, unit four, unit three fictional prose writing, short story writings they're all very important and they're all a part of your component related to British history. Let me just quickly see whether you are able to hear me also or not. Yes, you are able to hear me. Good evening, everyone.
Good evening. I can see a couple of you have joined in. That includes Santosh, Shivraj, Devasmita, Kohu, Deva Sri, Shivraj, Bhagashree, Kavita Behera, Kaitega, Kohu, Shivraj.
Okay, Shivraj is like all over the place. Okay, Kishan, Meena, Sonu. Sorry, Suhoor Athwad is there, Akarshan.
There's Krishna Gilbert. There's Vishal also who's joined us. Good evening, everyone.
Good evening. I hope you all were able to at least get a sneak peek into Victorian age because remember in the last class, we were looking at Victorian age. We discussed some very basic features of Victorian age. We spoke about how Victorian age is predominantly the age of reform, the age of democracy. we are able to see that, you know, the condition of England novels, the silver folk writings, the Newgate novels, they're all becoming very popular and two movements which are particularly important, the Oxford movement, which is also called the Tractarian movement and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, getting the support from writers like John Ruskin.
So John Ruskin is giving support to these writers, right? So we will, of course, be continuing with that journey. And we will be looking at Victorian poetry via...
questions okay so without further ado let's just very very quickly get started i will share my screens with all of you so that you would be able to see the screen and here we go with sharing you can also let me know whether the presentation is going to be visible to you or not whether the presentation is visible to you or not okay now see whenever we are looking at victorian age before we just go further to look at the questions I want you to remember that, you know, there is this term and we have already done these things even during the Victorian, sorry, even during the YouTube classes. There is a term called Victorian Compromise. Who has coined this term Victorian Compromise?
Victorian Compromise is a term coined by J.K. Chesterton. J.K. Chesterton is the person who is coining the term Victorian Compromise.
OK, and Victorian Compromise is telling us that this is an age of hypocrisy. This is an age of double standards. Why is this an age of double standards? Because you have a lot of growth taking place, but there is also a lot of poverty.
You have the woman monarch, but at the same time, the condition of women is really bad. Right? So JK Chesterton calls this as the age where double standards are clearly visible.
Right? So that is basically like, you know, Victorian compromise. Victorian compromise becomes a word that he's talking about.
Okay. Also, please remember that, you know, this entire age, this entire age is very, very popularly called as the period, you know, where England had become the workshop of the world. You know, it had actually become the manufacturing giant.
It had become the manufacturing giant. So what we were able to see, it had become the workshop of the world. the world like the make in India campaigns. What are the make in India campaigns wanting to do? They want everyone to think that India is predominantly the workshop of the world, right?
So workshop of the world, workshop of the world England had become because of industrialization and we are able to see Victorian age as an age which is flourishing and we are able to look at what all radical changes are taking place. There are bills, there are acts which are passed. Can anyone very quickly tell me which are the three most important acts which are there?
Like, you know, of course, there are many, many acts which are coming in, but the three most important turning points. OK, now, please remember three most important turning points. A, the first war of independence, the first war of independence in India. That's called the revolt of 1857. The revolt of 1857 was very important.
Then Charles Darwin publishing. The origins of species, this is also a very radical turning point. And 1870, can anyone tell me what is happening in 1870?
Education is made available to everyone. Education is made available to everyone in 1870. And remember, this education which is available to everyone will create in another two generations the angry young men because people are educated but they are unemployed. people are having degrees but they don't have jobs people are having a lot of like you know they're having a lot of support in terms of you know get making sure that they are aware about what is happening but they don't have any outlet which is acting like a job all right like there are no jobs at all whatsoever okay so all these things of course we'll be discussing in greater detail we'll be talking about all these aspects we'll also be discussing about what are the primary you features what are some of the primary features and i will one by one tell you walk you through uh you know all these important aspects with regards to uh your victorian poetry everything i will try to uh like you know get this wrapped up in this particular session so let's very quickly get started uh from first of august onwards and even now this pdf today's class pdf will be available to all of you on anirsha english ugc net this is a telegram channel please stay tuned we'll be sharing the schedules of the upcoming mini modules certain structural changes that we've introduced, certain marathon sessions that we have organized, especially for all of you in the month of August, everything will be mentioned, everything will be discussed over here.
So please make sure that you're connecting. Neerja English UGC net is the telegram channel. Okay, so let's very quickly get started.
And this is your first question. And your time starts now. The early poems of Emily Bronte, Emily Bronte, remember Stormy Sisterhood, Stormy Sisterhood, that is what we are looking at and please remember that you know whenever we are talking about Elizabethan poetry, we often only think Elizabethan poetry is Browning and Tennyson, that is not the right answer, okay, that is not the right answer, we are having other important aspects also, okay.
Let's see how many of you are able to answer this question. Let's very, very quickly see how many of you are able to answer this question. The early poems of Emily Bronte are known as what? They're known as what, right?
What is the name that is given to the early poems? Okay, that's great. That's great.
Most of you have answered it correctly. Gondal poems is the correct answer. Gondal poems is the name of the poetry that is written by Emily Bronte. Okay, which is written by Emily Bronte. Now, along with...
this along with this point i also want you to remember what are some of the major influences what are some of the major influences on victorian poetry victorian poetry was getting inspired by medievalism victorian poetry was getting inspired by melancholia also right also writers like tennyson arnold there is crisis of faith that is clearly visible so you know they were affected by crisis in faith darwin's story Also remember that these entire writings are predominantly the poetry of the Victorian age. If anyone of you has read Rottelage, there's a line that just like in the Romantic period, novel was overshadowed by poetry. In the Victorian age, it's vice versa.
Novel is overshadowing your poetry. So in Romantic period, the prose was overshadowed by the poetry of the times. And this is getting tilted.
This is getting tilted when we come on to the Victorian Eid. So do remember that. And you know, there are multiple styles also, which we'll talk about very soon what all styles are there in Victorian poetry. Let's come on to the next question. Which poet has written tragic poems like the White Ship?
Which poet has written tragic works like the White Ship? Can anyone quickly answer? What is the right answer here? Let's just see. Let's just very, very quickly see how many of you are able to answer this question.
Let's just see how many of you are able to answer this question. This is a very, very popular Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, right? He's a leader of Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which is also called Fleshly School of Poetry. So who is the writer?
Who is the writer who's writing this? Let's just see how many of you are able to get the right answer. Excellent.
Excellent. Okay. So the white ship, the white ship is a work that we are having.
And please remember that pre-Raphaelite brotherhood is a very important aspect in your exam. Pre-Raphaelite, I'll just shift my, you know, my, my, this thing, cause I'm not able to see. Right. So the white ship and sister Helen, these are two works that are coming from the pen of DG Rossetti, Dante Gabriello Rossetti is writing these works. Christina Rossetti, William Morris, AC Swineburn, all these are people who are coming together.
to like, you know, form what is called as a pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, which is getting support from John Ruskin. And they are coming into being in 1848. They remain till 1850. They're also called painter poyards. They're also called fleshly school of poyards. So that is, of course, a point that, you know, you should all keep in mind that you should all remember, okay, overall. So yes, D.J.
Rossetti is absolutely the right answer. Some of you had even answered it. Some of you had even answered the correct answer.
So do remember this aspect. Okay. Now, whenever we are talking about the features of Victorian poetry. What are some of the features?
So influences, influences, Darwin was an influence on Victorian poetry, Industrial Revolution was an influence on Victorian poetry, British Empire, all these were influences on Victorian poetry. Now, what are the major features? What are some of the major features?
What are some of the major characteristics you can say? You know, these people, the Victorian poets are also focusing on sensory images, particularly the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, particularly the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the painter poets. Therefore, they are called Fleshly School of Poets.
poets. People, you know, they are also focusing on verbal embellishment. Verbal embellishment, for instance, you know, verbal embellishment means you are trying to give a lot of, you're trying to make your works really fancy.
So Tennyson does that. Tennyson is a very musical poet. So there is a lot of verbal embellishment that we are able to see.
And these poets are very melancholic in nature. They are responding to the crisis of faith of the time so that is also an important aspect that you must remember. So one major feature of Victorian poetry is the fact that it's paying importance to sensory aspects which is clearly visible in the poetry of D.G.
Rossetti. Please keep this in mind. All right, let's come on to the next question and let's see how many of you are able to answer the question. Coventry Patmore was hailed as the laureate of wedded love. laureate of wedded love laureate or wedded love why because of the fact that he is a writer he is a writer who's trying to talk about chaste love wedded love is considered to be pure love chaste love so what is the right answer absolutely right absolutely right absolutely right angel in the house is the correct answer angel in the house is making him, making him become as the laureate of wedded love.
You know, wedded love is supposed to be chaste form of love. Wedded love is supposed to be pure form of love. And, you know, Coventry Patmore is actually being very puritanical because he's telling us what an angel in the house should be like.
She should be a slave to what man is trying to tell her. So that is, of course, a major problem that we are able to see. Now, you know, there is a question that I have for all of you.
And of course, I wanted to ask you towards the end of the session, but what are the three most important forms of poetry that you are able to see during Victorian period? What are the three most important forms of poetry that you are able to see during the Victorian period? You know, you are able to see a dramatic monologue. Of course, dramatic monologue is very popular, but so is epic and so are sonnets also. and towards the end of the session so stay tuned because I will be telling you some very important names which we often forget like you know we are not talking about these writers but they're coming in your exams particularly Augusta Webster for instance is coming in your exam so we will talk about all these writers also but do keep it at the back of your mind that the three most important categories towards the end I will be highlighting all of these so make sure that the end part you are definitely listening to okay.
Not that you're not listening to these things because these things are equally important, but Angel in the House is the right answer. Let's see the next question. What is the name of the sequel to Angel in the House, which is a long work glorifying married love? So what is the sequel that we are having to Angel in the House?
What is the sequel that we are having to Angel in the House? What is the sequel that we are able to see come in case of the Angel in the House? I'm sorry. Okay, the sequel that we have to the work called Angel in the House. The sequel to the work Angel in the House.
Just one second. Okay. Yes, let's see how many of you are able to answer this question correctly.
Are able to answer this question correctly. That Angel in the House, what is the sequel? Very famous.
termed as. Excellent, excellent. Some of you are able to see, I have answered it correctly. Some of you have answered it correctly.
The victories of love is absolutely the correct answer. The victories of love is absolutely the correct answer. So you can write this down that angel in the house is giving us an alternate perspective about women that you know how women need to be adhering to what patriarchy is saying. Women must not raise their voices. Women must always agree to whatever patriarchy is telling them, right?
So do keep that in mind that, you know, whenever we are looking at the victories of love, it is actually a sequel. And both these works are telling you about married love. Married love, that means a woman now should not assert independence after marriage. And that is the reason, you know, what is marriage compared to?
Marriage is compared to kids. Remember YouTube sessions we have discussed, what have we discussed? Yellow wallpaper.
yellow wallpaper what did we talk about that marriage is considered to be like you know something which is letting you come inside a cage it is stifling yellow wallpaper by charlotte yellow wallpaper remember yellow wallpaper and this was a youtube session only yellow wallpaper that we had done by charlotte perkins gilman which is telling you about how marriage was absolutely stifling and that's a similar emotion that you're able to see over here okay let's come on to the next question and let's see how many of you get the right answer who said the following lines i have no brains above my eyes i describe what i see i'm not having any brains here but i describe whatever i see i'm only able to describe whatever I see who said these most beautiful lines and I totally think right. Divya we will be looking at previous year's questions so don't worry about it rather in a lot of YouTube sessions so far that we've conducted we have covered a lot of previous year's questions but yes focused in a focused manner we will be looking at it. These are lines spoken by Thackeray.
Thackeray who's a grandfather of Virginia Woolf. He's the step-grandfather of Virginia Woolf. Thakure is the writer writing works like, remember in Newcombs, we had just done this last month, we had just done this last month or rather this month only, when we were talking about Roman Lal is a character. Roman Lal, remember, is representing Raja Ram Mohan Roy.
In Newcombs by Thakure, Raja Ram Mohan Roy is depicted as Roman Lal. That is what we had spoken about also. Right. And Raja Ram Mohan Roy, of course, he's a very important person.
When we are talking about study of English in India, that is something that you have to keep in mind. Keep on making connections. The question that all of you ask, how can we remember the minute you make connections, the minute you will be able to start recollecting and please put everything in one notebook. That is really important.
Don't make multiple notebooks, just make one mega notebook and start writing, start filling it. And you know, just make sure that you are seeing your progress. How many notebooks have you filled in, right?
So Thackeray said, Thackeray, and this line is telling us about realism. This line is telling us about realism. Vanity Fair, novel without a hero.
We had discussed about Vanity Fair because Vanity Fair is giving us the example of new woman. Who had given us the concept of the new woman? Who had given us the concept of the new woman?
Sarah Grand had given us the concept of the new woman. Sarah Grand had given us the concept of new woman. All these pointers even in the YP sessions we have been discussing, please make sure that you are making full utilization of all these videos which are readily available and making proper notes, studying in a very systematic manner because the minute you will be systematic, you will be able to even with shut eyes, you can easily deliver a lecture on Victorian age very easily. you can easily deliver a lecture in Victorian age right so do remember that but okay let's come on to the next question a reading of life and a reading of earth are poems by which writer which writer is writing these two works which writer is writing these two works we had studied about this writer in the previous section in the previous youtube class also when we were discussing when we were talking about you know what are the major works written by this writer let's see how many of you are able to get the right answer let's very very quickly see how many of you are able to get the right answer all right absolutely right george meredith is the correct answer remember meredith we talked about for the equest as well meredith is absolutely the correct answer a reading of life a reading of earth these are two works written by meredith meredith is the writer writing these works please make a note of george meredith also you know george meredith uh augusta webster we will talk about all these writers or george elliott writing poetry so george elliott is also writing sonnets remember i told you towards the end of the class i will be giving you some very important sorry beg your pardon um no sorry not beg your pardon yeah i'm so sorry uh please excuse me now here when we will be looking towards the end of the class i will very quickly give you some very important nuggets on victorian poetry pointers that you can put it as it is in your notes on Victorian poetry.
Okay, let's go on to the next question and let's see how many of you get the correct answer. The Victorian poet who wrote poems based on the legends of early Roman, sorry, based on early Rome, namely Lays of Ancient Rome. Lays are songs, Lays are songs, right?
Lays of Ancient Rome in 1842. So who's this writer? Who's this writer that we are talking about? Who's this writer that we are talking about? Very, very popular.
Very, very popular. He is a person who said that, you know, one shelf of British works can actually give competition. One shelf of British writings can actually give competition to the entire library of the Arabic and the Indian traditions. Right.
So, Mokolle is absolutely the right answer. Mokolle is absolutely the right answer. The debate between the Anglican school of thought, the Orientalist school of thought, everything gets covered over here under the category of Lord Mokolle. Please remember that.
Please keep that in mind. That is important. So, the Victorian poet who wrote poems based on the legends of early Rome, right, based on the legends of early Rome is called Mokolle.
Mokolle is absolutely the correct answer. Please make a note of this because we only think that Macaulay is a writer writing about English in India. No, he was. He was in India only for four years.
He was in India only for four years, but otherwise also he was a contributor to magazines. So his other writings also become important for all of us automatically. Please keep that in mind. Do remember that. All right.
Let's come on to the next question very, very quickly. This is the next question. Elizabeth Barrett Browning sonnets, which were.
published in 1850 were called what were they called what were they called okay what were they called it's all thanda now very good very good very good that is the right answer that is the right answer okay so that is absolutely the correct answer that is absolutely the correct answer you know i purposely made these kind of options because you know sometimes they they look very similar and we often get confused we often get confused so sonnets from portugal is wrong sonnets from the portuguese is absolutely the correct answer sonnets from a portuguese is not the correct answer okay so sonnets from portuguese because uh you know we we are able to see that um that browning used to call her my fortune as as like a love uh like you know as a very you can say as a term of endearment that yes you know this is a nickname this is an alias name that I'm giving to you so that is what he used to call him and of course Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a major competition please remember this I have said this multiple times in Victorian age writings Samuel Rogers was asked to become the poet laureate in 1850 he refused Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a very tough competitor was a very tough competitor she could have easily, people were thinking that she would only become the next poet laureate but she could not become the next poet laureate and finally Tennyson was elected as a poet laureate. So do remember Samuel Rogers rejected it, Samuel Rogers rejected the poet laureate trip and Elizabeth Barrett Browning was also a very tough competitor. Finally Tennyson became the poet laureate and 1850 is called the Annus Mirabilis. It is called the Annus Mirabilis for Tennyson. Why is it called Annus Mirabilis?
The year of miracles. It is called the year of miracles because in memoriam or the way of the soul is getting published over here. He is getting married to his life partner.
He's also becoming the poet Claudio. So, you know, professional happiness, personal happiness, they're all coming together. They're all coming together. So that is what you're able to see.
And also remember, flush is a work. Flush is a work written by Virginia Woolf in which the lapdog of Elizabeth Barrett Browning is saying, I hate Robert Browning because he has taken all the attention of my mistress. Now my mistress doesn't even think about things about me.
Now she's only thinking about about her husband. And they go to Italy. They have a very peaceful time over there.
And of course, unfortunately, we see Elizabeth Barrett Browning passes away. And remember, Elizabeth Barrett Browning is also writing Condition of England books. She's also writing Condition of England Works.
So she was also deeply invested with the times in which she was writing. Please remember that. Okay, please keep that in mind.
All right, very simple question. The title of the scholar gypsy was taken from which work of Joseph Glanwell? Very important. Which work of Joseph Glanwell was being used over here? Which work of Joseph Glanwell was being used over here?
I don't think anyone should have any problems whatsoever with this question. The title of the scholar gypsy was taken from which work of Joseph Glanville? Which work of Joseph Glanville? Excellent, excellent, excellent. The vanity of dogmatizing is absolutely the correct answer.
The vanity of dogmatizing is the work from where we are able to see that, you know, the title is coming, the scholar gypsy, right? So please keep that aspect properly in mind. And George Eliot is writing the Spanish gypsy, okay? We will talk about George Eliot also towards the end because George Eliot...
Mary Ann Evans is a very important poet as well and of late you are getting questions on her poetry. Okay, and Middlemarch by George Eliot, according to Virginia Woolf, is the only novel meant for adult readership. Because of the fact that she says that, you know, it makes us think. It makes us think. And it is set amidst the reform of 1832. Middlemarch.
Middlemarch. Right? So that's really important. Okay, let's come on to the next question.
Very simple. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is very popularly called as the fireside. Foyard, very important. Fireside Foyard, you get questions on Fireside Foyards. He's also called Boston Brahmin, Boston Brahmin, because these people were getting educated from Harvard.
And they were just armchair critics. They were just elite. They did not know the problems, right? They did not know the problems at all.
So he's called Fireside Foyards. He's called, they're also called Boston Brahmins. Right. So what is the correct answer here? Excellent.
fantastic majority of you have given the right answer majority of you have given the right answer the song of Haywatha is the correct answer the song of Haywatha is the correct answer excellent very good okay the song of Haywatha the song of Haywatha is the correct answer okay now please keep this aspect in mind it is not a song of Haywatha it is definitely not the song of Portugal so please remember this also please remember this also because a lot of times you know They have actually given you these kind of questions in your net exam. Which work is considered to be historical novel of Dickens? A Tale of Two Cities, The Tale of Two Cities, A Tale of Two Cities.
So they have given you such kind of questions also in your net exams. So please be very careful. Don't miss out on the articles bit.
Don't miss out on the articles bit. They were American poets. Very good.
Very intelligent. Excellent. Falsetto masculinity is a term used by Rossetti in association with the poems of falsetto masculinity.
Falsetto masculinity is the word that is being used by Rossetti for which writer? You know, think about it, think about it, false masculinity should ideally not be for men, should ideally not be for men if you apply the elimination method. So what is the correct answer here?
Excellent, excellent. Excellent. Very good. Very good.
Very good. That is the correct answer. Very good.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning is the correct answer. You know, basically, what Rossetti was saying is Rossetti was saying that in a positive way also, that Elizabeth Barrett Browning could have actually written more about the sensual, the sensuous, something which is appealing to the senses part, but she's trying to like, you know, wear the cap of a masculine poet. he's trying to wear the the cap of the masculine poyot and in that masculinity also the femininity is visible so falsetto masculinity is a term that Rossetti is using for Elizabeth Barrett Browning falsetto masculinity is a term used by Rossetti for Elizabeth Barrett Browning all right a term that he is using for Rossetti for like you know so so do keep this aspect properly in mind all right do remember that okay very very popular Truth sits upon the lips of a dying man and this is a reality because you know when you're about to die the least thing is you can say, chalo bhai, sachchi bol deyte, right?
Before you are you are like going away from the world. So truth sits upon the lips of a dying man. The dying man will always tell the truth, right? The dying man will always tell the truth.
So where are we able to find these lines? Where are we able to find these lines? and I always tell you know just remember it as SRK, SRK okay just remember it as SRK and you won't go wrong at all in this right absolutely. Sohrab and Rustam is the correct answer right it's not Rustam and Sohrab, it's not the scholar Gypsy, it is not the Spanish Gypsy. Spanish Gypsy a work written by George Eliot, scholar Gypsy work written by Matthew Arnold.
Sohrab and Rustam is again a work written by Matthew Arnold and Sohrab and Rustam is trying to highlight what is Sohrab and Rustam trying to highlight Sohrab and Rustam is trying to highlight and this is very important, the fact that you know how, remember what is the first thing that I made you write at the beginning of the session, that what were the major influences, if you remember, what were the major influences on Victorian poets and I made you write that medievalism was a major influence, medievalism was a major influence. This is medievalism, these are medieval stories, these are stories coming from the eastern world as well. right so that these people are getting intrigued because of the umpire these stories are coming to them be it robayat also robayat is also showing so you know in edward saeed's word remember yesterday at 7 p.m we did colonialism and okay when we were looking at orientalism yesterday remember what is pivax saying What is Spivak saying?
Spivak says that Orientalism is actually the source book of post-colonialism and Bhabha calls it that this work inaugurates post-colonialism, right? So this is what we had talked about and we were also looking at multiple other terms. So I hope those are things also that you've practiced from yesterday's 7 p.m.
application session. Okay, anyway, let's come on to the next question. Henry Wordsworth Longfellow's poem, which is a tragical story of the story of the early colonial days is called the story of the early colonial days. So what is the work called? Henry Longfellow's work.
What is that popularly termed as? What is that popularly termed as? Let's just see how many of you are able to get the right answer here. And this is a very important work also that you get. Let's see how many of you.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. I don't know why some of you are mentioning B because B is not the right answer. B is not the right answer. Evangeline is the correct answer. Evangeline is the tragical love story, which is telling you about the early days, which is telling you about the early days, right?
Evangeline is telling us about the early days. Please remember that. okay Evangeline is the right answer okay so please keep that in mind all right let's come on to the next question Elizabeth Barrett Browning's poem which strongly impressed Browning and led to their matrimony in 1846 what is this called this is called sapiosexuality sapiosexuality that means you're getting attracted by the intellect of the person okay what is attracting you in another individual the intellect and this is what even classical Greek writers and philosophers were talking about when they spoke about a concept called pederasty. Pederasty was intellectual friendship between male members of course but pederasty was also intellectual friendship.
So you know this concept is really nice. Absolutely correct. Absolutely correct.
I am glad most of you have given the right answer. Shabash. Very good. Very good.
Lady Giraldine's courtship is the correct answer. Majority of you. I can't see anything. From Kavita, Lakshmi, Devashree, Ankita.
Okay, and I must confess, I must confess over here, I just saw this. You know, Kavita or students like Kavita, they're always inspiring. Kavita has got a lot of responsibility because, you know, she's taking care of her house also as a married woman. But I really salute every one of you, each one of you who, you know, despite all the concerns that you're having in your personal life, you've still given a lot of time to academics. I think that's great and I genuinely salute all of you.
I think that's really nice. Kavita, I was really touched because, you know, poor she had written this. Not poor, she's of course filthy rich and inshallah she'll be super duper rich also.
But, you know, what was really surprising over here with Kavita was that she had written a very cute little doubt note that, okay, I'm married. Could you please help me with how can I manage my time? So that was really sweet.
Okay, that's very nice. Very nice. and please remember consistency, hard work eventually and this is for everyone will eventually definitely pay.
If you're consistent, if you're hard working, if you genuinely want something, trust me you will get it. You need to be very focused right about it, that is important and curious, that's really important. So please keep this aspect in mind that Lady Giraldeen's courtship, this is a work, this is a work that really impressed Browning and Browning was head over heels and he said this is the woman that I would like to spend the rest of my life. with okay all right let's come on to the next question which work by William Morris William Morris is a pre-Raphaelite brotherhood right Sneha's also saluting okay and you know Sneha's surname is Sehra which is like please don't call me by my surname it's very odd so okay all right great let's see nice thank you thank you who was that okay the this thing has gone up Yes, yes, Suhu, don't worry, but next week, say we are starting on, so you don't have to worry at all about it, okay? Alright, let's see how many of you have answered it correctly.
Majority of you, I can see, are answering it correctly. Majority of you have given the right answer. William Morris is writing The Life and Death of Jason.
This is the story of media and Jason. This is the story of media and Jason. Very important, Euripides is writing about it, right? very important Euripides is writing about it, Euripides is talking about it so please remember that media and Euripides is of course writing the tragedy which and this was a myth which was already there this was a myth that was already circulating but Life and Death of Jason is a work written by William Morris so William Morris is actually writing this work okay all right okay okay okay Kavita Alright, okay. There's a Kavita in our classroom batch.
I was talking about her. Okay. Okay, okay.
Nice, nice, nice. Great, great. Kavita is like very good, the other Kavita.
Okay, wow. Nice. Okay, let's move on to the next question. William Morris wrote Dash which is a collection of tales inspired by Chaucer. What work is he writing?
So please remember the Life and Times of Jason. That is an important work written by William Morris. William Morris is also writing The Earthly Paradise. So that is also important.
Let's see how many of you are able to get the right answer. Thank you. Fantastic, fantastic. Majority of you have given the right answer.
The Earthly Paradise is absolutely the correct answer. The Earthly Paradise is absolutely the correct answer. Any writer that you are having, please remember, so Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood is a very important topic and under the category of Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood only, we are having these writers like William Morris, A.C. Swinburne also to a certain degree of extent, even though we're able to see that Algernon Charles Swinburne is more an aesthetic writer also.

Now in dramatic monologue please remember to put in the name of Augusta Webster, please remember to put in the name of Augusta Webster. Augusta Webster is also a person who's important in this particular category we many a times forget about her then you need to remember that in the epic okay in the epic format we are having of course Idols of the King by Tennyson everyone knows about it Idols of the King you will all be able to remember it but I want you to add that George Elliot Spanish Gypsy is also an example of epic George Elliot Spanish Gypsy is also an example of epic please remember that William Morris's Earthly Paradise is also an example of epic please write these pointers down just make a category that you know your poetry Victorian poetry three categories Sonnets, dramatic monologues and epics.
