Fiction, in the realm of literature, refers to stories and narratives that are imagined and not based on factual events. What does it mean?
Simply, It means that fiction is nothing but it refers to a literary work which is imagined and not based on facts or factual events. I think you are not getting the point. So, let me tell you some of the characteristics of fiction, so, you will understand it.
The first distinguishing point is. Imagination. By imagination. I mean that fiction refers to any creative work or any narrative work which is portraying individuals, events, or places that are imaginary.
Simply, it means that fiction describes people, events, or places which are not existed in the real world. In other words you can say, fiction describes something imaginary or invented. Basically, The term is generally used for creative works written in prose or poetic language.
So, imagination is one of the main characteristics of the fiction. Narrative Structure Simply, it means that fictional works often follow a structured narrative with a clear plot, characters, a well-defined setting, a compelling conflict, and a satisfying resolution. Actually, the structure provides a framework for engaging the reader and effectively conveying the intended story. Basically, you might have studied many fictional works which include characters, setting, and engaging story.
So, narrative structure is also one of the main characteristics of a fiction. Actually, if someone asks about the example of fiction, so, you answer, that fiction includes. Novels, short stories, fables, legends, myths, fairy tales, epic etc.
Basically, all these are the examples of fiction, which means they are narratives or stories that are not based on factual events. Or simply, you can say that the stories or narratives are not based on facts rather than they are imaginary. So, when a work is not based on facts then it is known as a fiction.
So, that is why all of these are fictions. While on the other hand, non-fiction can be defined as. Non-fiction refers to literary works that present factual information, real events, and actual people. What does it mean? Simply, it means that it is opposite of a fiction.
Because a fiction is based on the author's imagination, creating characters, events, and settings that may not exist in reality. But non-fiction presents factual information, real events, and actual people, which exist in reality. Simply, you can say that in non-fiction the author presents information based on research, observation, or personal experience. To make it clearer, I would say fiction is imaginative and non-fiction is not.
The examples of non-fiction are. Biography. As you know, it is an account of a person's life, highlighting key events and achievements. Autobiography. It is a person's account of their own life, written by the subject.
Essay. As you also know that it is a short work of prose that expresses the author's viewpoint on a particular subject. History.
It is the examination and analysis of past events, cultures, and civilizations. These are some of the examples of non-fiction. Basically, these works are based on facts and factual events.
Actually, history, biography, essay etc. cannot be imaginative. So, this simply called non-fiction. Well, If you have enjoyed this lecture then please don't forget like and subscription to the channel.
