  • Achieving goals effectively and efficiently.
  • Planning, organizing, activating, and controlling are key components.
  • Ensures objectives are met using available resources optimally.

Key Concepts

Effectiveness vs. Efficiency

  • Effectiveness: Completing tasks on time (focus on time).
  • Efficiency: Completing tasks with minimal cost/wastage (focus on cost).

Characteristics of Management

  • Goal-Oriented Process: Focused on achieving organizational goals.
  • All-Pervasive: Needed universally in any organization.
  • Multi-Dimensional: Involves managing work, people, and operations.
  • Continuous Process: Never stops, adapts to new plans and goals.
  • Group Activity: Involves teamwork and collaboration.
  • Dynamic Function: Adapts to changing environments and technologies.
  • Intangible Force: Results are visible, but the process is not.

Objectives of Management

  • Social Objectives:
    • Employment generation

    • Healthy working conditions
