what's going on Jared athletes today we are going to be learning the double under in five easy steps so guys the double under is a pretty common jump rope move it's one of the most important that I think that you can learn not only just to be you know have better coordination explosiveness but also because it's great for losing weight and burning calories because of the intensity that you have to apply to the move we have some other videos that we've made before about the double under but I thought it was time for a little update so the first part of this video guys I'm going to be giving you an actual drill for you to do over and over and over again this video is going to be just like our boxer skip video because to be honest with you the double under is not a super easy thing to learn you're going to need to practice this for a long time so this drill is going to help you get there that's the first part of the video the second part of the video is kind of some more just like tips and tricks and ways to think about doing the double unders so that you can Master them so first let's do the drill and use this video as a reference to just rewind it and watch it over and over again and see the kind of muscle memory and just for me personally visual visualizing something over and over again helps me to actually execute on it and then wait for the the end of the video and we'll just talk some more things to make the move easier so for the drill first thing I want you guys to do put your jump rope down because the most important thing with doing the double under is consistent Rhythm but you're not jumping just 1 to 2 in off the ground like you normally would I'd recommend jumping 6 to 8 in off the ground but the problem in that most people get messed up is they don't have a rhythm you have to land at the same time every time so this is all want you to do to start out let's just start by doing this right here and if you're not warmed up please do so but just start by jumping up and down like this about 6 to 8 maybe four if you can't go that high but like inches off the ground let's do this with the counting so when you're doing this so that you hit a consistent Rhythm I want you to go one 2 one two so one 2 one two one two one two one two if you can match music to this this will also definitely help out but the goal here is just to get you jumping higher off the ground Landing in the same place and having the same time interval between jumps okay so now we're actually after you've been training this there's no better way to kind of do this move than just to get in and try it so what I want you guys to do is we are going to do a couple regular skips and then one double jump and then stop so a couple regular skips and then double stop so before you start doing that what I want you to think of and the most important thing that has to the most important thing that you need to know about doing a double under is you're swinging the Rope once as hard as you can but you're letting the momentum rotate the Rope twice so the reason I say that is because most people when they go to do a double under they try to spin the Rope twice really fast and they use their arms too much and then the Rope gets loose and hits their feet that's not how you want to do this as soon as you leave the ground you want to whip the rope with your wrist once really hard and then let the uh let the Rope come around the slow the slow-mo video will like help you see this a little better but let's just do a few of these [Music] stop and try to land in the same place every time you do this cool all right the next natural progression of this is we're just going to continue that movement and we're not going to stop after one so we're going to go regular bounce double under and and then keep going regular bounds so regular double back to regular and then every 10 skips or so just try to put a little double under in there and guys also don't let your form lack always remember form on the double unders same thing as regular balance I'm up on my toes knees are slightly bent my elbows are back shoulder blades are back wrists are jutting out the side of my hips and I'm looking straight forward okay so the only thing that's changing for the double unders whipping the wrist hard and jumping 6 to 8 in off the ground all right and step number five guys let's just put this all together and just do see how I land in the same place or just about the same place every time so just like any of the things I'm teaching you guys it's not going to come overnight you have to practice and just do this over and over again so my recommendation would be do this drill a couple times a week maybe for 5 to 10 minutes and just practice your double unders before before or after a workout but also just be patient you know this isn't going to come super fast and you're going to have to work at it to get any of these moves but I can promise you when once you unlock it you can unlock a bunch of other different tricks and it opens your jump rope game up and the level of like you know intensity in your workouts up to a much higher level so it's worth it so that's the drill here's some things to consider most people mess up with a double under because they try to muscle the Rope around and that doesn't work you have to keep your arms tight and use your wrists to whip the Rope again one time really hard and then let it rotate around twice now this is kind of a weird it's like a weird one to get used to patience and what I mean by patience is not in the fact that you're going to have to like do this a lot but like when you're jumping rope and your every jump is one skip of the Rope when you're doing two skips it's kind of weird to hang up in the air like that it's easier for people to get excited and feel like they're going to mess up and therefore they try to like whip it really fast and then they can't do it consecutively so know that for the rhythm of double unders it's a little bit of a at the top so it's like one 2 one two it's not one two one two one two one two like you would be in regular jump rope just be aware of that be when you are up in the air just count like that one two down one two down another thing to that makes doing these consecutively a lot easier is landing in the same place every single time the last part of this video I just want you to visualize me doing the double under so what I'm going to do is I'm going to stand here uh put the camera in slow motion I'm going to have a bunch of text flashing up just saying this is what you need to focus on just watch and visualize my body and then go [Music] practice [Music] [Music] by the way guys if you need a good jump rope to do double unders WID
