fit in here yet all right so I want you guys to turn around say hi to your neighbor give him a high five this [Music] morning all right you guys can have a [Music] seat all right my name is Mike uh I've been hanging out with a teaching team over the last couple months um I'm also the director of the wayu center in senica um and we don't have any major announcements this morning but as always there's a QR code on the back of the seat in front of you so you guys can go ahead and scan that if you're new here make sure you connect with us in the back before you leave we'd love to get you plugged in here to Life Point um but anyway uh since there aren't any major announcements I just wanted to share kind of what a verse that I've been thinking about lately that I think is cool um and actually in a couple weeks when we talk about Hebrews 10 we're going to be reading it again but it's Hebrews 10 um 24 and 25 it says let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works not neglecting to meet together as is a habit of some but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day Drawing Near so if you guys are like me you hear a lot of things that um you hear a lot of ideas in the Bible you hear things that Jesus tells us to do something as simple as loving your neighbor loving your neighbor as yourself um there's there's very simple ideas that we have in our head but sometimes it's hard to actually put those into practice throughout your week um and actually like physically love your neighbor and do good things for your neighbor and like look out for the people around you um but in that verse it says let's stir up one another to loving good works and I like that idea for us this morning of all these people in this room um we all kind of have each other's backs throughout the week like we can be helping each other stirring up each other to actually practice the thing God's practice the things that God wants us to do throughout the week um and so throughout this week if you find an opportunity to encourage someone um to love and do good works take it and then also know that if you have the opportunity to do that do it knowing that you have all these Believers behind you throughout the week backing you in your corner and we're here to support each other all right let's pray and then we'll continue to worship God thanks for this morning um thank you for church thank you that we can gather um I pray that you would come into this PR uh this space um be with us here be with Blake as he brings the word um and we invite you here and help us to learn this morning in Jesus name [Music] amen let's stand and continue to worship together today [Music] in the darkness we were waiting without and without light till from Heaven you came shout to God with cries of joy for the Lord most high is awesome the great king over all the Earth he subdued Nations under us and peoples under our feet he chose our inheritance for us the pride of Jacob whom he loved God has ascended amid shouts of Joy the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets sing praises to God sing praises sing praises to our king sing praises for the God for our God is the king of the earth so sing to him a Psalm of praise God Reigns over all the nations and he is Seated on his holy Throne the Nobles of the Nations assemble as the people of God of Abraham for the king of the Earth the kings of the earth belong to God and he is greatly exalted [Music] sometimes I think it's hard for us to remember that God truly is in control amen and if we can read that and truly believe that he reigns over the entire Earth over every nation over every government over every family if we can believe that then why can't we believe that he's in control of whatever situation that we're in today so when you sing this song you sing it from a a personal stance that he reigns He reigns in my life he reigns in your life and whatever we Face whatever we face today [Music] tomorrow man he's in control and I'm so thankful for that amen I want to just keep singing that to today together sing that he reigns oh are God forever your [Music] kingom oh we believe you R in our [Music] in you and we trust you and we believe that you're in control we believe that you are seated on your throne so God help us to remember that even in the smallest moments of our life you are still r meing God you are still in [Music] control allow us to see those spaces in our lives where we don't want to let go of the control we don't want to give it to [Music] you I just remind us of that truth today that you Reign you Reign and you will reign forever and you are seated on the Heavenly Throne you're not pacing around anxious or nervous but you are just seated there because you know that you're in control so God allow us to remember that allow us to trust [Music] you Lord we love you and you are worthy of this worship I pray that it has been father a pleasing offering to you today from your people we ask that you bring us your word today that you would speak right now that you'd move Lord we love you in your name we pray [Music] amen all right good morning how we doing good it is good to see you this morning my name is Blake I'm one of the pastors here and if you have your Bibles you can turn with me to the book of Hebrews chapter n book of Hebrews chapter 9 we have lifeo church has been a church for about 10 and a half years now and about six years ago uh we were able to come and uh begin to meet in this building and when we came here this place right here was a gym right it was it was a a not not a Jem a g ym okay it was it was a gym it had basketball goals and it had a a weird basketball tile floor and it had you know it was a gym and and it was a place where we were able to meet but it was not a place that that really reflected our our personality and and who we were and so and a place that we could worship and so what we began to do is we begin to make modifications we came in here and we took that weird floor out we took the basketball goal on this end down first and then several several years later in fact we worshiped in here for years with a basketball goal hanging on that back wall over there it's now moved we moved it a couple years ago we did some things with the lights and and with this we finally built a permanent stage and we did some stuff out in the lobby we completely redid the kids area over there and we made it a place where that was functional for us that that met that kind of reflected our personality and allowed us to worship God and serve him you say but why why don't we say that today in Hebrews chapter 9 we are going to learn about where God's coveted and where God's people used to worship all right for years in fact over the last several weeks we've talked about how Jesus is better right that's what the whole book of Hebrews is about how he was better than Angels how he was better than uh the priest how he was better than the uh the prophets how he's a better S Sabbath last week we talked about that he came to establish a better Covenant and that Covenant takes place the the rituals and the regimen and the religiosity of that Covenant all took place in one specific spot and that's called The Tabernacle or the temple and what we're going to read today is that God decided to make some modifications to change ultimately the place where you and I can come and allow Jesus to meet our deepest need and we find that out in Hebrews chapter n is really all about the Tabernacle this place we call the Tabernacle or the temple and and a lot of information today so we're going to get right into it here we go verse one this is Hebrews chapter 9 now the first Covenant also had regulations for Ministry and there it is an Earthly Sanctuary for a tabernacle was set up and in the first room which is called the holy place where the lampstand the table and the presentation Lo so he's kind of giv us a tour of what the Tabernacle is all about verse three behind the second curtain was a tent called the most holy place it had the gold altar of incense and the Ark of the Covenant the Ark of the Covenant was covered with gold on all sides and in the Ark of the Covenant was a gold jar containing Mana Aaron staff that budded and the tablets of the Covenant the cherubim of Glory were above the ark overshadowing The Mercy Seat now he very quickly runs through all of these elements of the Tabernacle where everything that happened in the old Covenant took place all the priests they went into the to the Tabernacle to to kind of take care of the elements of of the old Covenant so he doesn't take long to go through it because his audience was for Jews right they knew about the Tabernacle they knew the significance of all the little things that he mentioned there us not being Jews us being Gentiles who were not raised going into going to the Tabernacle to worship we don't understand a lot of these things but there is a lot of symbolism in these few verses and so I just want to take just a second to kind of walk us through what he's talking about here and to do that I'm going to throw a slide up here this kind of gives us an idea of what the Tabernacle was like you can see it's usually always in the middle you see the outside view there on the left it's almost always in the middle of the camp and we get a layout here on on the right side and so let me explain the layout very quickly in the outer Court was the place where anybody could go all right any Jew could go to the outer court and worship and pray in the outer Court was something called a bronze Altar and on that bronze altar is where the where the priests went to make sacrifices so that they could make sacrifices for their sin as they went and made their way into the most holy place after they would sacrifice make a sacrifice for their sin they would go to the wash basin and they would ceremonially cleanse themselves they would get all clean from the sacrifice they just made and then they would make their way into the first room what the writer of Hebrews calls the first room also known as the holy place and you can see in the Holy place are three different things you have the lampstand the lampstand was representative of how God LED them out of Egypt Through the Fire by night and how he is ultimately their light and without him there is Darkness the other other thing in the most holy in the Holy place is the bread of the Pres this is the Mana that came down from heaven this was symbolic of their daily Reliance on God and then they have what they call the altar of incense this is where they would light incense in fact this was actually right at the curtain that went into the most holy place and they would light incense there and it was representative of prayers continuously going up to God and then separating the most holy place the first room from the second room is the curtain and and tradition says that the curtain was about a hand breadth thick so these aren't your mama's drapes yeah like these are these are this is a thick curtain and it represented the the separation between everyone else and God that we could not stand we could not withstand the presence of God and so there's a curtain separating the holy place from the most holy place and in the second room which is the most holy place is something called the Ark of the Covenant it's about a 3 and 1/2 by4 foot box and they' carry it everywhere they went it it's one of the most sacred relics to the Jews and inside this box were three things there was the tablets of the law so the tablets with the law written on them there was a golden um golden cup of mana and there was Aaron's budded staff and then on top of the Ark of the Covenant was what they called The Mercy Seat and this is where the priest would come and sprinkle the blood of sacrifices and on each side of the The Mercy Seat they there was a golden cheram or a golden angel at the head and at the foot of the mercy seat and this is where everything that the priests were commanded to do by God would take place in short the Tabernacle was a place among the people where priests served and where God's presence dwelt I'm going to say that again because that's a mouthful the Tabernacle was a place among the people were priest served and were God's present dwelt this was literally in the middle of the camp God's presence would descend like a cloud if you remember when God led the people of of Israel out of Egypt he led them by a cloud and so they would follow this cloud of the presence of God and then whenever it would stop they would stop and they were nomadic they were on their way to the promised land and so they would set up camp and they would set up their camp and in the middle they'd set up the Tabernacle and when they got finished setting up the Tabernacle just like God had told them to that presence that cloud would go into the most holy place and the presence of God would reside in the most holy place and then when it came time to leave the presence of God would come outside of the tent it would go back in front of the people everybody would pack up camp and they would follow him it sounds really weird but read it it happened and when they got to the promised land David's King David's son Solomon would come along and he would build a permanent Tabernacle they saidh should we live in permanent homes when God lives in a tent let's build God a house that's permanent and so they built something called Solomon's Temple and they built it in the very center at the highest point of Israel this place was literally the center and the Pinnacle of Jewish life and the reason it was the Pinnacle and the center of Jewish life is because of what happened inside the Tabernacle and they tell tell us what happens inside in verse 6 look at verse 6 with thing with these things prepared like this the priest entered the first room repeatedly performing their Ministry but the high priest alone enters the second room and he does so only once a year and never without blood which he offers for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance now if you've been around here long enough over the past several years we talk about this extensively but just for the sake of clarity let me say it again the priests served to keep the people in relationship with God because God is Holy and humanity is not we needed a mediator between us and God because we are sinful and he is not and God cannot be in the presence of sin so God cast us out of his presence so that we cannot enjoy a relationship with him anymore and so for God to be perfectly just he had to punish sin but he loves us and he doesn't want to punish our sin which deserves death on us us and so in God's graciousness he provides a way of Escape for us through a sacrifice and he would do that once a year that's what he's describing in verse 6 and 7 once a year on the day of atonement the high priest would make a sacrifice for the sins of the people he would take that sacrifice into the second room the most holy place and sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat on the Altar for the atonement of our sin so the punishment for sin is falling on the animal and the mercy and grace of God was shown to his people it was an exchange and the math added up it was a life for a life it was a it was a living being for a living being it was a way for God to show us how how nasty our sin is and what it deserved and also allowing us to survive in order to repent here's the problem with the sacrificial system and everything that the priest did look at verse 8 the Holy Spirit was making it clear that the way into the most holy Place had not yet been disclosed while the first Tabernacle was standing what's he saying because if you read back in the Old Testament there entire chapters of the Old Testament that describe how the priest goes into the most holy place so I thought it had been described I thought did know how to go into the most holy Place what's he talking about in fact if if when when the priest went once a year into the most holy place it wasn't an easy path in fact I I was looking at a um at a commentary this week and it showed in detail how much the the high priest had to do in order to go into the most holy place I'm just going to read it to you because it's too much for me to say I mean for me to memorize here we go the week prior to the day of atonement the priest would move out of his house house and he would move into the temple so that every single day that week he could go through it's like a it's like a run through you know walkthroughs andbody play football play football you know play football on Friday night on on Thursday you'd have a walk through right you'd walk through the game plan so that during the during the game you could get it all exactly right this is what he was doing the week before he'd move into the temple so that he could walk through each part of all the sacrifices he had to make everything he had to do so so he wouldn't get it wrong cuz if he got one thing wrong or he did one thing out of order if he wasn't ceremonially clean or if he got the sacrifice wrong guess what happened when he'd go into the most holy Place dead so I imagine this is a strenuous time yeah so listen to what he had to do he did this every day of the week but the morning of the day of atonement he would bathe his entire body and dress in all white linen this represented the ceremonial cleansing of his body and and that he could be cleansed and pure as he walked into the presence of God then he would go out of the most holy place he would sacrifice a bull for his family and for his family's sin then he would take a goat and there were actually two goats he would take one of those goats and he would sacrifice it and that sacrifice would be for the sins of the people so he would make a sacrifice for himself he would make a sacrifice for the sins of the people then he would take the Bull's blood he would go into the most holy place he would sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat at the altar and then he would sprinkle the Bull's blood seven times on front of the mercy seat on the ground and then he'd go back outside and he'd get the blood of the goat he'd bring it in to the most holy place and he do the same thing he sprinkle it on the mercy seat and then seven times in front of the of The Mercy Seat he would sprinkle the goat's blood and then he would go back outside he would mix the Bulls and the goat's blood together and put it on the altar out just outside the most holy place then he'd come back outside to the people and he would take the goat the other goat the living goat he would put its hand on that goat and he would confess the sins of the people ceremonially making the sin of the people go on that goat and then he' get a volunteer to take that goat and drive it into the desert never to be seen again and it was symbolically representing that the people's sin were driven away for the next year then he would take off his Linens he would bathe again he would put his Priestly garment back on he would finish with a burnt offering and he would send the remains of that outside the camp and then he would come out Proclaim that God had forgiven the people for the next year everyone would Breathe a collective sigh of relief and they would celebrate with a feast now I don't know about you but that sounds exhausting and if he messed up just one tiny little bit as he walked into the presence of God he was dead and the sins of the people would not be forgiven there was only one way in for one person a year and it was not marked by Freedom it was marked by fear it was not marked by relationship it was it was marked by regimen and here's what's even worse about that look at verse nine all of that all that I just described was a symbol for the present time during which gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the worshipper conscience what's he saying he's saying that the priest can go through all that and it can't change his heart it's just empty religion later on he calls it dead works that ultimately could not change the priest's heart look at verse 10 they are physical regulations that only deal with food and drink and various Washings imposed until the time of the New Order I was thinking about this this week as I read through this we see these ceremonies from this side of the Cross don't we we see him from this side of the Cross so we're going to get to this more than a minute but we look at these ceremonies like okay I can understand why they would do that because ultimately it was pointing to Jesus Jesus was the ultimate fulfillment of all that like Jesus shed his blood just like they would shed the blood of the animal so that we could live just like the Jews like like like like I can understand it from this side of the Cross but can you imagine the priests how hopeless this had to make them that day after day after day after week after year after year after year year after year they were like butchers sacrificing these animals I'm sure at some point as they were talking to one another they go what's the point in this like all this seems meaningless these sacrifices couldn't change their hearts and if it couldn't change the priest heart who got to see inside the temple who got to see the lampstand who got to see the showbread they got to go into the presence of God if it couldn't changed the priest's heart then there's no way it would change the rest of the people's heart who never got to see the inside who never got who had just trust by faith what was going on in there they couldn't see it it was hidden from them how in the world if it can't change the priest's heart how's it going to change their heart you see these sacrifices Were Meant to appease God's Wrath but they can never change the people's heart it's like a veneer over something that's really ugly um when we moved onto this campus uh the teaching team moved into this house down here and you may see me walk kind of walk over there in between Services it's the house right across the the um the parking lot over here and there's a a kind of a big what used to be a living room and so we made it into a conference room and and we have a conference table so that we can meet with each other meet with people in there and so when we moved a conference table in there the conference table was I mean super super heavy really I mean this thing is Stout and so it when we brought it in it was in a box and it was it was super heavy so we slid it into the conference room it was like it was on Friday afternoon we're like okay we'll come back on Monday and we'll put it together we actually had to put it together in the conference room there's no way we could have gotten it through the door so we put it together in the conference room well when we got there on Monday the box was so heavy that it was leaning against the door and there was now a a doorknob sized hole in the sheetrock right there because it pushed the door knob through the sheetrock Rock and it's still there we're like what are we going to do we're going to fix it we're like nah we're not going to fix it they don't fix those things right what do you do you just open the door and leave it there right it covers it up in fact if you're standing beside it you would never ever know cuz that door knob just fits perfectly in into that little hole and so we're not we're not going to fix it so we're never really fixing the problem we're just putting something over it so that you can't really see the problem and this is exactly what the Jews were doing the priests were going in they were making these sacrifices and it was put in the problem it was covering up the problem that was really there but it was never really able to affect their heart it was just covering up what was really wrong and that's why it says at the end of verse 10 that there's a new order that the old order of things could not affect our conscience you see God wasn't content with the old order and that's an amazing thought because the god of love was so his love for us is so extensive that he wasn't content to Simply have Justice he could have continued to have justice but he wasn't content with that what did he want he wanted relationship he wanted us to know him and he wanted him to know us in fact I would say that's why God allowed the temple to be destroyed in 70 AD do you know this talking about the old order going away it becoming obsolete and the New Order coming into practice do you know the temple Solomon it was it was destroyed in in 70 AD never been built back so in 70 AD the sacrifices ended all the rituals ended they quit sacrificing animals and there's been none of that since 70 AD could God give us a more clear picture that the old order is gone and he has not allowed it to be rebuilt back if it was important don't you think God would allow them to build the temple back and start the old sacrifices again but it's obsolete it's like an old home telephone listen I remember the day we threw our old telephone away our home tele who remembers the day they threw their home telephone away anybody okay a few of you okay college students there used to be these things we kept in our house we called them home phones we couldn't carry our phones around with us they call us at home and if they couldn't get us they'd leave a message on something called an answer machine but there came a time where we didn't need those anymore right we had cell phones everybody was using cell phones everybody had their cell phone with them all the time so these home phones we threw them away I don't even know if there's infrastructure anybody still have a home phone oh really wow man it's 2024 get with it no I'm just kidding wow that was unexpected I was going to say that the home phone was obsolete but I don't guess it is all right but I don't replace listen since then we've never replaced our home phone why because there's no need for it it's become Obsolete and so there's no need to get another one God has not rebuilt the temple why because he doesn't need it anymore and why doesn't he need it anymore because there's a new order what is the New Order look at verse 11 but Christ has appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come in the greater and more perfect Tabernacle not made with hands that is not of this creation he entered the most holy Place once for all time not by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood having obtained Eternal Redemption I'm about to get excited that's a good verse right there listen we've done a lot of research on on this this week we read a lot of stuff I don't know if there's a literal Tabernacle in heaven I don't know um or if it's is just kind of grand language to talk about what Jesus did because ultimately Jesus gives us unhindered access to God so I I don't know if this just kind of grand grandiose language or I tend to think there's really a Tabernacle in heaven because when Moses when God gave Moses the visual of what he was supposed to do on Earth he says you need to follow the copy of what you saw in the vision and I I just think that's what it was was but I can't tell you that for sure we don't know either way there are two huge truths in this verse here's the first one is that the Earth Earthly Tabernacle was pointing to the Eternal Tabernacle the high priest had limited access to God's presence in the Earthly Tabernacle Jesus has full unhindered presence to God in heaven his work in the Earthly Tabernacle was just pointing to the ultimate work that Jesus Jesus did on an eternal scale in fact the Earthly Tabernacle itself the building was pointing to Jesus because everything in the Tabernacle ultimately symbolized Jesus think about it you have the lampstand the lampstand was something that the Jews looked at as God leading them right he was their light in the darkness what did Jesus say Jesus came and said I am the light of the world he who believes in me will never walk in darkness but he will have the Light of Life in the Tabernacle you had the showbread or the bread of life what did Jesus say Jesus came and said I am the bread of life he who eats of me will never go hungry again right he is our daily sustenance the curtain of the temple symbolized our separation from God the Book of Mark tells us that when Jesus died the curtain of the temple was ripped into from top to bottom and we now have unhindered unfettered access to God when you look at the Ark of the Covenant there were three things in the Ark of the Covenant weren't there the first thing was the law the tablets of stone what did Jesus come to do he said he came to fulfill the law he is the definition of the law he completed it perfectly there was Mana from Heaven Jesus again is our daily substance then there was Aaron's staff and it gives us a a little nugget in the book of Hebrews that Aaron's staff had budded now what in the world does that mean I don't know if you've ever heard this story before we don't have time to go in it completely but it's pretty interesting whenever Aaron was um declared by Moses to be the first high priest the people of Israel didn't like that right imagine a bunch of people not getting along together that was supposed to get along together but they wanted some of the people from their tribes to maybe be the high priest and so God said well let's let's do a little test here that they all got staffs all the different tribes got staffs and Aaron which a staff is just a dead piece of wood right all of them were to plant their staffs in the ground and the one that God chose to be high priest that he confirmed as high priest that dead pie of wood would Bud of course when they woke up the next morning guess what Aaron's staff had buds on it this is what was in the Ark of the Covenant and who is Jesus Jesus is the confirmed Eternal high priest that God sent to us it gets better than that right you had the mercy seat with the Cherub them remember you had The Mercy Seat where the sacrifices were made with the angels at the head and the foot do you remember when Jesus rose from the dead and Mary Magdalene went to the tomb what did she see look at what she saw this is um John 20:2 she saw two angels in white sitting where Jesus body had been LED remember Jesus is the embodiment of the Ark of the Covenant and where Jesus was lying I'm sure was Linens that he had been wrapped in that had blood all over them where he was the great sacrifice and look at what else she saw she saw Jesus where Jesus's body had been lying and she saw two angels one at the head and the other at the foot do you think God is trying to paint a picture for us this is The Mercy Seat this is where the greatest sacrifice ever given was sitting was laid and now Mary Magdalene comes in and she sees one Angel at the head and one at the foot Jesus is the Fulfillment of the Tabernacle the Earthly Tabernacle was just pointing us ultimately to the Eternal Tabernacle which is Jesus the second thing we learn in this verse is that the Earthly sacrifice was pointing to an eternal sacrifice the Earthly sacrifices that the priests made were pointing to an eternal sacrifice think about this for a minute in the Tabernacle no one saw the sacrifice that was being made only the priests no one saw in tab inside the Tabernacle nobody saw the Ark of the Covenant or The Mercy Seat certainly nobody else ever saw the presence of God everything was done in what in private everything was done behind the curtain and un likee those goats and Bulls Jesus wasn't sacrificed behind a curtain was he Jesus was sacrificed in public Jesus's work as our priest could not have been more public all of his miracles all of his teachings were public he was put on a public trial before Pilate he was publicly beaten by Roman soldiers he was publicly crucified on a cross where everybody could see and it was was recorded in the most public document in the history of the world that we're reading 2,000 years later why because God wanted everybody to see what he was doing God wanted everybody to know he didn't want to take it behind the curtain and do it in private he wanted our attention not to be on the old dead works of the law but on the true Eternal sacrifice of Jesus and here's why look at verse 13 for if the blood of goats and Bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled Sanctified for the purification of the flesh how much more with the blood of Christ who through the eternal spirit offered himself without blemish to God cleanse our conscience from dead works so that we can serve a living God see that it said that all the works that the priest did that could not perfect the worship first conscience that only the sacrifice of Jesus Christ could cleanse our conscience reminds me of a couple of weeks ago in Hebrews chapter 7 where it talks about Jesus it says therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him Jesus is able to fully save us look at verse 15 therefore for he is the mediator of a New Covenant so that those who are called might receive the promise of the Eternal inheritance because a death has taken place for Redemption from the transgressions committed under the first Covenant so there was transgressions there was sin under the first Covenant Jesus came his death took place so that we could have Redemption and ultimately we could receive the promise of ET of his eternal inheritance in a phrase here's what that means it means the Eternal son made an eternal sacrifice on an eternal SC scale so that we could have eternal life the Eternal son made an eternal sacrifice on an eternal scale so that we could have eternal life and when Jesus returns guess what he will raise us up in fact look at the last verse of this chapter don't worry we're going to cover the rest of this chapter next week but look at the last verse I want to skip ahead so also Christ having been off offered once to uh sorry once to Bear the sins of many will appear a second time not to bear sin he's not coming the second time to bear sin anymore first time he said I didn't come to condemn I came to save but the second time he's coming to bring Salvation to those who are what waiting for him not just the salvation of our soul not just to save us he's going to redeem the world you understand what that means when the first man Adam sinned chaos was brought forth the world I mean look at our world right now nothing make sense it's crazy and Jesus is going to come he's not only going to us he's not only going to bring his people to himself he's not only going to save us he's going to make a new order he's going to make a new world a new Heaven A New Earth We're All pain and suffering and death and idioc of humanity is gone in which I am the greatest idiot for those who are are waiting for him what does it what does it mean to wait for him you ever thought about that mean we sit on our hands here's what it means in a maybe in a little while some of you were going to go eat at a restaurant somebody's going to come take your order get your drink we call those people what waiters right they're waiters they waitresses are they waiting no they're not just sitting around like they don't take your and walk off and wait for somebody else to do it they serve you that's what they're servers that's what they do and that's what we're called to do as we wait on the Lord we are to serve him that's what verse 14 says how much more will the blood of Christ who through the eternal spirit offered himself without blemish to God cleanse our conscience from dead works so that we can serve the Living God and when we serve we serve from a place of worship not earning not dead works that can't cleanse our conscience but we we serve from a heart that is glad out of gratitude because of what Christ has done for us that we have been saved and as we are now that we're saved we wait patiently for him to return as a bride waiting for the bridegroom we wait for him all right let's pray father there are things so Grand and so mindblowing in this chapter that I think is just even hard for us to completely wrap our head around things that Angels even long to look into and Marvel at and so Lord as we sit here and we Ponder them and we pray or I pray that you and your spirit would just reveal yourself to us that the scales of doubt and disbelief maybe sin would just fall off of our eyes and allow us to see your truth as it really is Lord allow this to shape our mind to shape our thinking to understand who you are and as we understand who you are and we enter into a relationship with you and we learn to love you and learn to serve you and learn to wait on you God fill us with your spirit and with your presence allow us to Know You Lord give us Lord humble us humble humans Lord give us the ability to peer into things that are Eternal and glorious we ask it all in your name amen all right we're going to sing and um respond and during this time this altar is wide open to you listen if you're in here today and and you've never put your faith in Jesus I think a lot of times we act like salvation like the the the the the act of coming to Christ is this transactional thing it's not this transactional thing it's like you got to come up here and say a prayer in order to be saved in fact if you have the desire to come to Jesus I'd say you're saved in your seat before you ever come talk to a preacher we are called to him and then we're called to serve him we're called to be disciples you can't be saved and not enter into discipleship you can't have one without the other so if you're in here today and you're like BL I was saved a long time ago just don't feel like I'm growing well then one or two of things are are true either you're not saved and you never really put your faith and trust in Jesus you never repented of your sin or maybe you just don't understand what the next step is and you just need us to come you need the church that's four or four right to come alongside and to love and to encourage and to guide maybe you're dealing with some type of sin I don't know what's going on in your life the holy spirit is so good to talk to each one of us through through his word but whatever God's doing in your life I'd encourage you I think Jenny probably Jenny's over here she'd love to pray with you I'll be over here somewhere I'd love to pray with you you want to come up here maybe there's something in your life you need to pray about we have some cards up here you can write on those we'll pray with you whatever it is Let's Be let's be faithful to what God's calling us to do this morning and let's not leave here this morning without properly responding to what God is doing
