question one of the most dangerous locations on the planet and it is called a gap because for more than 100 km here between the Colombian town of Turbo and the Panamanian town of yava there aren&#39;t any roads at all and there isn&#39;t even really any civilization either it&#39;s just a 100 km wide expans of dense wild largely uncharged you would think as 2024 you got the Panama Canal right there you got Colombia right South where you have major major cities of civilization you would think that something would have happened where they would have put a road to make it easier to commute and come to and fro with borders and checkpoints no no no no no officer one with they didn&#39;t do it and there&#39;s a reason why they didn&#39;t do it go ahead say off one would think they don&#39;t want a road maybe they don&#39;t want a they don&#39;t now we going to find out why go ahead press play Untamed rainforest in mountains that is nearly impossible to cross with any motorized vehicles people have tried before but only seven Expeditions in history have ever managed to hey he said only like seven Expeditions have tried this sound like they trying to cross Antarctica or something right this ways for people to overcome the Darion Gap and travel between South and North America either walk through it on foot or travel around it by sea or air traveling around it by sea or air costs money that hundreds of thousands of desperate people fleeing from their homes simply don&#39;t have and so for most of them considering this decision that only leaves the option to walk through it but walking through the 100 km of the Darian Gap is one of the most hellish and arduous Jour so 100 km right wow 100 meaning of this is an uncomfortable real this ain&#39;t like just walk normally on on a pavement which they kind of figured out throughout you know going from way down in uh Brazil and Bolivia as they&#39;re going into these other countries they have no choice they can&#39;t detour into a comfortable uh route they have to go through this Daren Gap that&#39;s the only that&#39;s the only way to get through that&#39;s 62.1 to7 miles there you go on foot on foot right that&#39;s crazy you know how many blisters and bunions and you know how much blood and that&#39;s Uncharted Territory like can you imagine what goes down in a this the Uncharted Territory military ain&#39;t there nobody&#39;s there there you go watch you walking through there by yourself got to think about the wildlife the snakes oh it&#39;s coming it&#39;s coming man it&#39;s coming press play human being in the 21st century can possibly make the difficulties and dangers that walk through the Gap post Es are legion and they all begin with the Region&#39;s geography and climate the Gap exists only about 800 km north of the equator which means that the sun is always present and temperatures throughout it remain tropical and hot all across the year temperatures can easily soar up to 35° C or 95° F and flanked on the North and the South by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans the humidity is always extremely high which greatly amplifies Travelers thirst and hunger levels when hiking through it stop man we was just in uh B and Guatemala this is all a part of Central America and the humidity in those regions of the world different are not like the humidity in the states the humidity in those areas I&#39;m it&#39;s like you&#39;re walking through water it&#39;s like the the you you could feel the water in the air I was sweating in parts of my body where I never felt drops before that&#39;s crazy like the humidity is on another level go ahead press play steep changes in elevation that must be considered as well the Panamanian side of the Gap is extremely mountainous with Valley floors as low as 60 m above sea level to Soaring peaks of mountains 1,845 m above sea level higher than the tallest mountains seen in Australia stop so sometimes they have to go up through the mountains right meaning that they&#39;re going on an incline so you have to go up you know how hard it is to when we was in the military like you have said we had the ruck march right through the woods and a lot of times there were uh rough terrain areas and incline mountainous areas where you got 100 pounds on your back or you carrying you know you carrying belongings makes it only tougher you got a baby you know sisters with babies on their backs and in the front where you got to carry this material uphill is no joke and imagine like he just stated the elements were not favoring they were not going your way they did not favor you I&#39;m looking at some of the shoes that they have on no some of them don&#39;t have shoes some of them yeah well I didn&#39;t catch that one I just we&#39;ll see it yeah I was going to say off too just like you said the military we would do we would do these Rooks over these hot incline areas but we had gear prep us for that and we and it still sucks it still sucks imagine our brothers and sisters who don&#39;t have nothing no medical bag no food none of that horrendous man go ahead mountains are compl completely covered in some of the thickest jungle and rainforests seen anywhere on the planet hacking paths or Trails through it is a largely feudal effort as the dense jungle will simply swallow it all back up in a matter of days for more than 90% of all the days of the year it is raining within the Daran Gap the area receives over 5,200 mm of rainfall a year on average which makes it one of the rainiest locations anywhere on the planet and that poses additional challenges to all those who attempt to cross it there are several rivers that run through the Gap that must be crossed and none of them have any Bridges but since torrential rainfall can happen in nearly any time and especially during the rainy season between May and September these Rivers will frequently overflow and flood this can generate sudden flash floods within the Gap wash away Travelers in their tents or even trigger landslides higher up in the mountainous terrain that can bury you whole but despite the high levels of rainfall in the plethora of rivers finding fresh water that is actually safe to drink within the Gap is also a challenging task because of the lack of any civilization or development within it that&#39;s already a lot of potential hazards but that&#39;s just the geography and the climate there&#39;s also the wildlife and diseases within the gap for travelers to worry about as well within the rainforest there were all kinds of dangerous creatures hey Paul hey that&#39;s that&#39;s what offic get alive was just going into this is now mind you what are they why are they risking their lives to do all this because because they&#39;re the complexity of all the rivers that require Bridges or tunnels to be built the mountains that must be venor climbed in the dense jungles that must be cut through construction projects across this region are therefore monumentally challenging timec consuming and expensive tasks to complete and that&#39;s a large part of the reason why the Daran Gap has remained undeveloped and wild throughout all of human history and why it remains essentially impossible to drive between the Americas to this day over the span of decades in the 20th century countries from all around the Americas built out the vast Pan-American Highway System extending from prudo Bay in the far north of Alaska on the Arctic Ocean to the southernmost tip of Argentina near the mellan straight but the 100 km stretch in the center of the system that would connect South America to North America was never actually finished and that&#39;s what gave this region its name that we know it by today the Darian Gap the only remaining Gap in the entire Pan-American Highway System but that isn&#39;t to say that building a road through the Gap and finally finishing the Pan-American Highway would be impossible it&#39;s just to say that it would be very expensive to do so and moreover there were a lot of powerful interests around the world who prer that the Daran Gap actually remain exactly what it is a nearly impassible gap which separates North America from South America then makes it impossible to easily drive between the two continents and nearly makes it impossible to travel between the Americas by land at all effectively making North and South America separated islands where most transportation between them has to still be conducted Ed by SE a chief among the countries who would like to keep things this way are Panama and the United States pause that pause that pause that don&#39;t hey Say It Ain&#39;t So say it Ain so Babylon the great of course there&#39;s a reason why they are involved and they this way way are Panama and the United States for a variety of reasons you see throughout the 19th century Panama was merely a province of Colombia and while Panama was connected to Colombia by land the undeveloped and nearly impassible Darian Gap effectively made Panama an island of Colombia it was therefore difficult for Colombia to maintain its Authority and sovereignty within Panama and so a growing Panamanian Independence Movement began naturally taking shape by the early 20th century the United States was becoming increasingly interested in Panama because of the potential to finish the construction of the Panama Canal for centuries beforehand the only way for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans or between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States was by taking a very long journey around the entirety of the South American continent and through the straight of mellin across modern day Chile the very narrow ismos of Panama presented a unique opportunity for mankind to build a shortcut by carving a canal across just a bit more than 50 km worth of land that separated the two oceans here and once it was completed American Merchant and military ships could far more rapidly travel between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts greatly benefiting America&#39;s Naval flexibility around the world and greatly improving the speed of World Trade once finished whomever controlled the Panama Canal would control one of the most strategically important Maritime choke points in the entire world PA and a big country so whoever controls the Panama Canal you know what&#39;s crazy it it&#39;s actually the American Canal cuz Panama ain&#39;t got control over it or colia right right right it&#39;s the American Canal they they deboed that thing they with supposedly Independence uh from from slavery right but we&#39;re still slaves we&#39;re still in our captivity you look here Colombia was supposed to go they were supposed to work in conjunction that land was theirs that belonged that was that was Colombian territory that America took over once Panama was in cahoots with America there was nothing Colombia could do either that and try to go into allout war with America which they didn&#39;t want to do so they just say you know what y&#39;all got it y&#39;all can have we leave Panama alone and America came and did what they did and off Colombia right South where you have major major cities of civilization you would think that something would have happened where they would have put a road to make it easier to commute and come to and temperatures throughout it remain tropical and hot all across the year temperatures can easily soar up to 35° C or 95° F and flanked on the North and the South by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans the humidity is always extremely high which greatly amplifies Travelers thirst and hunger levels when hiking through it stop man we was just in uh B and Guatemala this is all a part of Central America and the humidity in those regions of the world different are not like the humidity in the states the humidity in those areas I&amp;#39;m it&amp;#39;s like you&amp;#39;re walking through water it&amp;#39;s go up you know how hard it is to when we was in the military like you have said we had the ruck march right through the woods and a lot of times there were uh rough terrain areas and incline mountainous areas where you got 100 pounds on your back or you carrying you know you carrying belongings makes it only tougher you got a baby you know sisters with babies on their backs and in the front where you got to carry this material uphill is no joke and imagine like he just stated the elements were not favoring they were not going your way they did not favor you I&amp;#39;m looking at raining within the Daran Gap the area receives over 5,200 mm of rainfall a year on average which makes it one of the rainiest locations anywhere on the planet and that poses additional challenges to all those who attempt to cross it there are several rivers that run through the Gap that must be crossed and none of them have any Bridges but since torrential rainfall can happen in nearly any time and especially during the rainy season between May and September these Rivers will frequently overflow and flood this can generate sudden flash floods within the Gap wash away Travelers in their tents or even trigger landslides higher up in the mountainous terrain that can bury you whole but despite the high levels of rainfall in the plethora of rivers finding fresh water that is actually safe to drink within the Gap is also a challenging task because of the lack of any civilization or development within it that&amp;#39;s already a lot of potential hazards but that&amp;#39;s just the geography and the climate there&amp;#39;s also the wildlife and diseases within the gap for travelers to worry about as well within the rainforest there were all kinds of dangerous creatures hey Paul hey remains essentially impossible to drive between the Americas to this day over the span of decades in the 20th century countries from all around the Americas built out the vast Pan-American Highway System extending from prudo Bay in the far north of Alaska on the Arctic Ocean to the southernmost tip of Argentina near the mellan straight but the 100 km stretch in the center of the system that would connect South America to North America was never actually finished and that&amp;#39;s what gave this region its name that we know it by today the Darian Gap the only remaining Gap in the entire Pan-American Highway System but that isn&amp;#39;t to say that building a road through the Gap and finally finishing the Pan-American Highway would be impossible it&amp;#39;s just to say that it would be very expensive to do so and moreover there were a lot of powerful interests around the world who prer that the Daran Gap actually remain exactly what it is a nearly impassible gap which separates North America from South America then makes it impossible to easily drive between the two continents and nearly makes it impossible to travel between the Americas by land at all effectively making North and South America separated islands where most transportation between them has to still be conducted Ed by SE a chief among the countries who would like to keep things this way are Panama and Oceans or between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States was by taking a very long journey around the entirety of the South American continent and through the straight of mellin across modern day Chile the very narrow ismos of Panama presented a unique opportunity for mankind to build a shortcut by carving a canal across just a bit more than 50 km worth of land that separated the two oceans here and once it was completed American Merchant and military ships could far more rapidly travel between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts greatly benefiting America&amp;#39;s Naval flexibility around the world and greatly improving the speed of World Trade once finished whomever controlled the Panama Canal would control one of the most strategically important Maritime choke points in the entire world PA and a big country so whoever controls the Panama Canal you know what&amp;#39;s crazy it it&amp;#39;s actually the American Canal cuz Panama ain&amp;#39;t got control over
