pastor of the new Bal Baptist church located at 2729 Oak Grove Road in Hattisburg Mississippi and today our Sunday school lesson for July the 14th 2024 is Contin continual Proclamation and our Bible scripture today are taken from the 71st number of Psalms vers 12 through 21 for our printed text and our unit of study that we're uh uh uh our quarterly theme that we're dealing with rather is Hope in the Lord that's what that's where we were last month and that's where we still are this month but our unit of study for this month is expressing hope and and we we we go into this 71st number of Psalms not knowing exactly who wrote it it there is some things that kind of tell us that maybe the person that wrote the previous Psalm or song that they they were set to to where they could sing these these this was a prayer where they could sing it with music and and everything they were set that that way and some of them are just poetic and some of them are just wonderful prayers some of them are wonderful songs and but but this is a a a prayer here that the the psalmist whoever wrote it is giving seems as if David may have continued to write he wrote the previous Psalm there the the 7th 70th number of Psalm but we don't have that heading on this one to tell us exactly who was the one that pinned this particular Psalm it is uh a a poem a wonderful poetic po type poem and prayer put together in a in a way that has the highs and lows and and and brings us right into the just the way that we pretty much Sing a a Himel today but still this is this is a wonderful Psalm because it is a Psalm where we get into where it's talking about an elderly person a person that has gotten to the pa place where they still want the Lord's help and still need the Lord's help but they're they they want to encourage others because they've already gone through some of the things that others will go through one of the things that I always tell the church is that experience is the best teacher but it doesn't always have to be your experience you don't have to go through everything that someone else if someone else walked into that hole over there and they tell you that the hole is there they've already experienced and so they're telling you how bad it can be so you don't have to go through it so that what what's what's happening here this psalmist is going to try is going to have a strong desire to teach this generation and leave a legacy for the Next Generation so they can learn from the same teaching so we get into this continual Proclamation the wonderful Proclamation that we have today because this was written in the Old Testament times it was written the Hebrew writing of of that but we we're talking about a proclamation now that we have that is the gospel message itself the the the fact that Jesus Christ died for our sins was buried and rose again well it seems like that's just something that is redundant something that we always say but it doesn't S it sounds fresh every time we hear it even those of us that have believed and trusted the Lord and are truly saved is not redundant to us when we really understand what took place when Jesus died for our sin debt was buried and rose again died for not part of our sins not one of our sins not the sins that we committed prior to us accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior but every one of our sins and he took care of them all there on the cross at Calvary and the only people that are going to hell are the people that never accept the message of the Gospel well what is the gospel it is the good news it is the good news now everyone doesn't need that gospel message all the time but we need the word of God for encouragement for Faith and that's what we go through with with with people that are already Believers in Jesus Christ but the gospel message can always keep us refreshed so that we can have a message to take out to others so we can continue to take the message out to others the only ones that will be concerned about taking it out to others are people that are truly on the meat of the word of God those that have have experience the the salvation of the Lord and they didn't stop right there I I I was telling the church that Veron McGee told a story and I I probably told you last week that a that a young lady said that that where the parents came running up to her room and said wait a wait a minute baby what what happened we heard a big thump on the floor and she said I I fell out of the bed and they said well what happened she said well I guess I F I stayed too close to where I got in some of us as Believers we stayed too close to where we got in so our faith is not to to the point where we can get on meat we're still on the Milk of the word and we hadn't moved along so this continual Proclamation when it gets real to us we can share it with people and we are actually believing and have hope in the message that we're sharing them sharing with them hope in the Lord the definite hope in the Lord so we go into this this 71st number of Psalms it is very encouraging I'm going to read it from the NLT the the first few few verses of this just so we can get into to uh our our lesson quicker said the first verse we we know what it says in in thee Oh Lord do I put my trust that is one of the the the things that we have remembered by heart but then we stop right there but let's read this in in in the NLT oh Lord I have come to you for protection don't let me be disgraced save me and rescue me for you do what is right turn your ear to listen to me and set me free be my Rock of safety where I can always hide give the order to save Me For You Are My Rock and my Fortress you are my Total Protection Lord my God rescue me from the power of the wicked from the crutches of cruel oppressors oh Lord you alone Are My Hope I've trusted you oh Lord from my childhood yes you have been with me from birth from my mother's womb you have cared for me no wonder I am always praising you which is another indication that always almost makes us think that David because he was a person that was full of Praise said and in verse 7 says my life is an example to many because you have been my strength and protection that is why I can never stop praising you I declare your glory all day long Al and now in my old age don't set me aside don't abandon me when my strength is failing for my enemies are Whispering against me they are plotting together to kill me they say God has abandoned him let's go and get him for no one will help him now this is kind of a sad setup to what's going to happen when the hope hope is reaffirmed just as in our lesson last week we sometimes there are lows and then when we get to that high when we start looking and focusing on the Lord things just change so so the the the KJV as as we started in this 12th verse it says oh God be not far from me colon oh my God make haste for my help Lord be not far from me since my enemies are saying that God has abandoned me and no one else is willing to help or try to deliver me since since those things are happening I need to call on you Lord I need your help I need you to come back to me I I don't want you to be in a position where where you have walked away where where there where I feel abandoned by you don't don't be far from me Lord I'm sure that you haven't abandoned me I know that because I've been praising you all these years I've been with you all these years you have brought me through so many things you have rescued me you have delivered me you have helped me many times time and time again you you have been there for me so please Lord show yourself for me in this show me that even now that you're close by don't be far away from me don't don't be far from me I don't feel that you're far from me I I know I know where you really are but don't it it feels like you're not with me sometimes I realize that sometimes it's because of my sin it's because of I I've done something wrong it's because I I've separated myself from you let some sin separate me from you or not feel your presence because you're always there you're not lost I don't need to find you because you're never you're never lost in the first place but but this he he's saying don't be not far from me so is what the psalmist is saying at this point and then Jehovah Elohim this is the supreme god the creator of everything this this is the supreme god the the word Elohim can be used for God but here it is Jehovah God it's talking about God is talking about the it can the Elohim can be the Little G's but but but this is talking about the Supreme Creator at this my God make haste for my help is what he says here will you please get in a hurry will you please get in a hurry God if you don't mind I'm not forcing you to I know you're going to be there for me but sometimes we ask the Lord and and and sometimes we say right now God but the only thing that I know for a fact that he'll do right now is save you he'll save you and me and and that's what Peter needed as we talked about last week when he took his eyes off of Jesus what because the the wind and the wave was Busters and he started to sink into the water he he he said Lord save me he just prayed out of prayer and and and that was get in a hurry Lord I I don't have time to go into a lot of different things I'm sinking right now so I need you to save me so if if you get in a hurry God knows when we need him to get in a hurry he knows better than any some the the the Elder people used to say that he he protects us from dangers seen and unseen those unseen things were the things that he knew you're going to need me in a hurry and the spirit prayed for you before it came to that point as the Bible tells us as Paul said there in the Romans 8th chapter that that the spirit prays with things that we can't even make groanings that we can't even grown we don't even know how to make them we try to sometimes but acts the 17th chapter says something that was quite special in this when Paul was there in Athens and they were praying to the unknown God he let them know something about this person that God being far away and and and God can can be right as close as as as he is right at any time he said they that seek the Lord in in the 27th verse if happily they by might feel feel after him and find him though he be not far from every one of us verse 28th verse for in him we live we move and have our being as certain also of our own poets have said for or your own poets have said for we are also his offsprings this has been stated already this is things that Paul said bringing up the scripture back to them so so that they can hear things that were familiar to them as their own poets had already said these things so God is not far he's not far away so he's asking the psalmist is saying be not far from me because obviously at this time maybe he wasn't feeling the Lord's presence as close as he had felt him one time because he had been praising God we saw in the earlier verses from his youth up from from his early existence so he asking the Lord here at this time because they're out there Whispering they're out there saying things they want to tear me down they realize now that I'm old that I'm my steps have gotten shorter my there's nothing wrong with my mind I still have wisdom I still can encourage them but they're want to take me down they're Whispering about me they're putting me down a as as what what was said there in in the in the 10th verse they're they're putting me down and and they're they're plotting to to take me out they're plotting to kill me is what what the the psalmist is saying here at this time but but God don't be far from me come in and make haste and help me I need your help at this time let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt don't don't let them be confounded let them be taken down th those that are are laying in weight for me those that have it out and and is in them to to take me down to hurt me in some some type of way let them be confounded let them be consumed that that are that are my ad adversaries he says here at this time the adversaries are accusers that's what it is if you look this up in the Hebrew is it's telling you that this is this is accusers well we know the big adversary if you looked it up in the Hebrew word and it's telling you that it's that man Satan himself well who is the accuser of the Brethren there in the 12th chapter of of Revelation the Bible says that day and night he goes before God accusing the Brethren he's always there accusing you accusing me telling you what that what the thought that even went through said what is he telling God about me at night well it's a thought that went through your mind while you was dreaming and he's going to tell God look at that thought that that man is having even while he's dreaming and I thank God for the person that is is sitting next to God even at the right hand of the father now ever making intercession for you and me according to First John the the the second chapter that's Jesus Christ the righteous he's always there by his father when the accuser of the brothers comes up to and say look what he's doing look what he what he thought about look what's happening to this person right here and and and then the uh then Jesus says he's Redeemed by my blood and the father said case dismissed lack of evidence there's nothing to to hold him back there's there's nothing so that the accusers here that he says let them be confounded that's what the psalmist says here at this time let the accuser be be confounded at this time and consumed well consumed can can be quite bad cuz we don't think that that the psalmist really wanted them to be taken out well that if it's people maybe he doesn't want them to be taken out or perished which is which what the word means utterly destroyed or finished off it it maybe he does doesn't mean that but what about circumstances what about situations what about things that that the the the the habits that we can't break the strongholds that are on over our life we don't want them to just be tickled we want those things to be taken out we want those things to be destroyed we want those things to be to to parish and and move out of the way we don't want them so so let them those things be put to shame be put away from us be taken away let them be disgraced is what what the confounded and and and and consumed means so so they they need to be consumed those things that that are our adversaries are accusers because our conditions can can accuse us because Satan Works in with our conditions if we have a drinking problem if it's I said a drinking problem I didn't say C you drink it's is just something that has a stronghold over our life that's that's something that Satan is using to try to keep us beat down and he's taking it before the father because he is the ultimate accuser so it's that thing that's actually working in us to try to tear us down and bring us down let shame and reproach and humiliation and confusion dishonor cover them like a blanket he said let look let let them be covered with reproach that and dishonor that seek my seek my hurt let them be covered W with with with this with with this shame let them be covered with humiliation and confusion let them be out of their mind let them be where where they can't do these things let it cover their lives like a blanket or that thing that I can't get away from that stronghold let it be covered like a blanket so that it can't rise up and hurt me because it's it's down under there and it can't get up to to hurt me in any type way for they only want to harm me not just people but circumstances and situations and things that we're going through they only are there to to harm us if if if if that's the problem that that we're dealing with but I will hope continually and will yet praise thee more and more is what the psalmist says here at this time he said I I will hope continually now hope comes back in remember this is the continual Proclamation this is something that continues to come up the hope that that that that we find in the Lord we have this hope in the Lord and this this this we said unit the study is expressing hope so here he says I will hope continually this is having that confident expectation of something coming that is good or my things or this situation or that this this thing that I'm going through with this person is turning around it's going to turn around it's going to work together for my good it's going to work out in my favor it's going to get right in in just a little while I have hope in this I am determined to know that I have an expectation that this thing is definitely going to come to pass it's turning around it's it's turning around in my favor yet I will yet praise thee more and more he says here because of this hope because of this this confident expectation of that I have in coming good this this this wonderful thing that is definitely going to come to pass salvation is the thing that that's definitely going to come to pass because I have this hope and is and it's centered in you my praise is always continuously increasing it's always going higher and higher and and one of our old hymns it says every round goes higher and higher since I laid my burdens down since I start walk since I start walking with the Lord since the the Lord is a part of my life since my hope is found in nothing less than his blood and his righteousness now things are going higher and higher every day with Jesus no matter the circumstance no matter how it looks no matter how I'm feeling is better than the day before because I'm going to be with the Lord when I leave here I have that expectation in coming good I know that it's going to turn around it know it's going to get better even if I don't get well from this particular sickness or this particular thing I have this confident expectation of just being with the Lord one day so every round goes higher and higher every day gets better and better every day draws me closer and closer to his precious bleeding side my mouth shall show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day for I know not the numbers thereof this this psalmist is really getting into things and and now it it just some highs and lows but still the highs speak higher than the lows he said my mouth will show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day I is it's going to my I'm going to speak these things I'm going to tell everyone about just just how just you are and how right you are God how how how wonderful you are how you do everything right how there is no shadow of turning with you you're just going to do it the right way all the time I'll also speak of your continuous willingness to deliver that's what they he says there there and thy salvation all the day you're continuously delivering you're continuously bringing me out of circumstance after circumstance situation after situation every time I turn around I receive Another Blessing every time I look up you're doing something for me when that thing could have killed me or should have killed me you brought me out you delivered me from it when they came and talked against me when they tried to tear me down you have brought me through on the other side and now I'm stronger because of it I I'm brought to a different type of of of strength because of it and and and just because I went through that thing your willingness to deliver me you you're willing to bring me to the point of this salvation now we know that ultimately he's willing to save a person but he's talking about here at this to deliver from circumstances and situation because he is a righteous God he is true to his own word he's faithful we talked about in last week's lesson even when we're Unfaithful there is no ending of your grace and your mercy time after time you have delivered he says this for I know not the numbers thereof how many times Lord have you brought me out how many times have you brought me through how many times have I been down to my last and you always made a way somebody said in a song that he'll make a way out of nowhere and he's done it so many times before I'm not talking about just just Financial things I'm talking about circumstances and situations Time After Time the Lord has done it for but I know not the numbers thereof if I tried to count the times of day that the Lord has blessed me from the time I woke up I just couldn't understand it somebody said that it's just count the number of heartbeats you have well I've have trouble doing that but then Every Breath You Take God knew that you was going to take it so we we we can't even count the the wonderful things about God for I know not the number thereof how you have delivered me how you have brought me out how you have been true to your word you are the one that is righteous I will go in the strength of the Lord verse 16 says the Lord God and did as a colon I will make mention of thy righteousness even of thine only he he said look I'll go in out in the strength of the Lord God because I've seen your wondrous and mighty acts now I can go out in the strength of your word your word I've seen it myself now I'm not going on what someone else says I'm going on the testimony that I've seen for myself I've seen you work it out so many times before I can't number the times that you have made a way out of no way I I can't put it all together so I go out in in the strength of your wonderous acts how many times you have done this how many times I've seen you do it for others I I can go out in in the strength of that first I'll tell them of your Justice and your righteousness I'll tell them how wonderful you have been you you are just you are right your righteousness is always there it's there every time when we need it then I'll tell them how you alone are righteous only you are righteous only your righteousness is the righteousness that can get us to the place that we need to go well how do I know that the Bible tells us that that Isaiah 64 and 6 tells let you and me know that our righteousness is it's filthy rags we won't stand before what God one day and say well I was just as good as so and so over there that won't work I'm standing here on his righteousness alone as the him olist says faultless to stand Before the Throne only on his righteousness his his righteous only you are righteous even of thine only only you you are righteous God that's the we reason this this is working out I will make mention of thine righteousness only your righteousness only you are righteous only you and and and the Bible even lets us know even when we stand there and say that I'm holy I've learned to live holy the Bible lets us know that only God is Holy so how do you and I get to Holy how do you and I get to righteous be because without Holiness no man shall see the Lord greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world though you have the Lord living on the inside of you in the person of the Holy Spirit and because you have God living on the inside of you God recognizes himself and he is a down pavement for your salvation when you trust Jesus Christ as your lord and savior now you get in now your righteousness is of God your Holiness is of god you without either one of them you won't get in this righteousness you are declared righteousness righteous because of what you believe you are declared holy because you who you have living on the inside you you just we we have him living there only he is righteous oh God thou has taught me from my youth colen and hither to have I declared thy wondrous works from the earliest time of my life from the earliest part of my life I've been learning about you we read that in the earlier verses of this chapter also of this this Psalm not not chapters this Psalm from the earliest part of that of my life I've been learning about you that was something that was supposed to be taught to the Israelite children anyway they were taught and told there during the days of giving out the law that they were supposed to talked about this when they rose up in the morning when they walked along the path and when they before they laid down at night they would have wear the feries they would have all of these things that were exposed to them so that some of them it stopped at a certain point they wern't teaching them the same way but this person this psalmist said that they've been learning from the early part of their life and now that when in their elderly years they they know these things I and and hither to have I declared thy wondrous works I I've declared your wondrous works I'm not failed to tell others about the wonderous and miraculous works that you have been doing I've been telling them I told them how I even felt like I was there standing there with Moses when he stretched out the rod over the Red Sea and it opened up and they walked through on dry land it's by faith that I believe these things happen so so it's just as if I was there myself it's what this person is saying I I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm older now now I have wisdom I might not have strength like I used to I may not be able to kick a 60 yard field goal but I still have wisdom I still have I I I was telling the church the other day I I sat down with one of our oldest members 97 years old and she told me when I when I when I walked in the room she didn't even pick her Bible up she said boy I want you to turn over to such and such and such such and and I turn over to those pages and she start telling me what she thought about and she said now Pastor I want you to explain those verses to me now she was a person that was self-taught how to read but still her mind is there don't say because a person has gotten older that their mind is gone sometimes the wisdom has gotten so great that it that that is wonderful and it can be encouraging to do I I I have not failed to tell others about your wondrous work now that I I I'm at at this age in my life I'm I'm telling everybody about you now also when I'm old and gray-headed oh God forsake make me not till I have showed thy strength unto all unto generations and thy power to everyone that is to come now God I I I'm older now now my my hair is gray now I I I'm I'm going only on wisdom now I can't see as far as I used to I can't walk as fast as I used to I and things uh so God please at this point don't don't don't abandon me don't forsake me don't put me to aside don't don't throw me away but but but but till until I have showed thy strength until I have showed thy strength until I have been given the opportunity to Proclaim your power and your Mighty strength even to this very generation the psalmist is saying I want to tell the people that are here right now about you and how miraculous you are how wonderful you are how you are righteous and you are just and you always keep your word I want to tell this generation about you some things about you is is what the psalmist is saying here at this time I want to tell this very generation but he didn't stop there he said and thy power to everyone that is to come well how is he going to tell those that are to come let your word flow from me in a way that it will leave a legacy of your Mighty miracles to even to the the generations that are coming they'll be able to tell you the things that that I told them about you these wonderful things this this testimony that I have about you these miraculous and Powerful things that you have done in my life that I've seen happen happen in in my very life now we can tell we can tell others about it the these things that thy righteousness also verse verse 19 says oh God is very high who has done great things oh God who is like unto thee now he says your righteousness is is is very high your your it's very high in other words it it's is it reaches into heaven Your Righteous it can't be contained it can't be brought down and and even though I've gone through some serious things in my life is what the what the psalmist is saying here people have tried to drag me down and hurt me and and and and put me down and they're they're even Whispering about me there don't worry about that if you are a True Believer Jesus has told you that in this life you're going to have much tribulation he said but be in this world you're going to have much tribulation but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world Paul said a person that lives Godly in Christ shall suffer persecution not might will you're going to suffer that persecution if you live Godly in Christ so don't worry about these things J James has said don't don't worry about these things also he said let just just know that these things are going to come come your way it it's going to come your way but they're coming your way for a particular purpose they're they're Whispering about you they're trying to tear you down they're trying to hurt you they won't be able to do it unless the Lord allows them to do it but but but know that the trying of your faith working patience James says but let patience have her perfect work so that you will be entire lacking nothing you won't be without anything that you you're definitely in need of but your righteousness oh God it has stretched even to the highest of Heavens who has done who you have done done great things you you have done everything you do God is great everything every time our hearts beat every time we take a breath every time we get up and move every time we wake up in the morning we should thank you for your Amazing Grace because you are doing some great things in our lives there is no one or Nothing Like Our God like you God who is like thee there's not a question mark after that if there's there an explanation point after that there's no one like you is what the the psalmist is saying here at this time no one is is is even comparable to you and then we get into that that part where we'll we'll understand the things that we're going through said thou which has showed me great and sore troubles shall Quicken me again and shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth you God you have showed me great and sore troubles you didn't bring the sore and great troubles matter of fact some of the sore and great troubles were not even brought on by me so I was talking to one of my deacons and he was saying he said he said he he was on this group and they was were talking about a person that was that was uh going through some things in their life said it had to be some type of sin and I while he was talking to me I I flipped my Bible open to to the ninth chapter of The Gospel According to St John and I start reading some things there about this this blind man and the disciples asked Jesus they said who sin that this man was born blind was it his was it him or his parents and Jesus said none no one sin this this Happ life happens sometimes we go through life life just happens know that the trying of your faith let's say it again work at patience but let patience have her perfect work so that you will be tire lacking nothing you're going through sometime sometimes you're just going through some s sore troubles just because these things are there to build you up and make you stronger you you you're going to need this for the next Mountain you have to climb so don't always ask the Lord to move the mountain out of the way get you a rope and a and and a pick and start getting across that thing because you might need this to get the strength from it for the next Mountain that you're going into said that thou showed me great and sore troubles and shall Quicken me again and shall bring me up again from the depth of the earth Lord you have allowed me to go through great pain suffering even persecution and tribulation the crushing that's what tribulation mean just being crushed by the circumstances and things of Life youve allowed me to go through these things but even in this you have brought me back uh back into me you brought life back into me rather you you quickened me that's what quickened me brought life back into me you restored me Lord you restored me to that place that I needed to be and then we get into something that that is prophetic that here in the midst of this prayer and this song that that is being that that there that the psalmist is singing say you have even given me the promise of Resurrection after this life is over not many people in the Old Testament talked about the resurrection talked about the the life after this life now we know we know that job did we know and and probably one of the earliest people because never the law was talking about it in job so it was probably before all of these other things that that were written in the Bible that it even though it wasn't the first book that was written and put in the can of of scripture or put in the can of of scripture but it seems like it may have been the first that was written because job talked about some things he said I know that my redeemer lives and he will raise me up in the latter days so so he he knew things what what were going to happen he knew and talked about the resurrection maybe the Lord slid them a a a subliminal memo there into their mind and put it into their spirit and gave them something a message that was just handed down to them to so so that they can pass along to us because in the Old Testament they were even saying this and they shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth you're going to resurrect me one day there's going to be a bodily Resurrection one day I know that the spirit it it goes back to be with the Lord when I when I die we just go to be in in there with the Lord but one day there's going to be a bodily resurrection and and and this is the promise of the of the Resurrection The Lord gives us Thou shalt increase my greatness this is not talking arrogancy and comfort me on every side Lord you you're going to in increase my greatness now this this word in increased my greatness is it it could actually tell us with that that that they're going to be in a place of Glory Jesus said that told that in there in his real Lord's Prayer there in the 17th chapter of The Gospel According to St John glorify them just as as those disciples those people that would come after them they they they would have a certain amount of Honor as what is talking about there restore me he says here oh Lord and it will be great honor if you restore me if you if you bring me to this place it will be great honor it'll be increased honor it'll be something that is totally wonderful you then I'll be in a place of comfort with you again I I'll be in a place of comfort with you again that and and so a wonderful thing where is the most comfortable place to be the most comfortable place to be is with the lord well you wonder how how do we know that we know that from the biblical scriptures there when they were in the fiery furnace and Nebuchadnezzar looked into the fiery furnace he said didn't we put three people in there I see four walking around in there and the fourth one looked like the Son of God I I know it's something different about this man it's it's so so this this man is is is something different it it looks like he he is he is something special because these guys are not trying to get out of the Flames they're walking around in there in Comfort because they are with the Son of God they're with Jesus wherever Jesus is that's going to be the most comfortable place in in in the world it's going to be a wonderful place it's going to be a place where we'll all want to be right there with the Lord thou shall increase my greatness or there will be honor when we uh are in the presence of the Lord and comfort forever ever more when we're there in the presence of the Lord
