The CIA has particular skills in developing relationships. Life is all about relationships. So much of what you learn at CIA is applicable to everyday life.
You need to know this. I served as the director of the CIA's covert action capability. I've learned a lot about human nature. I was the deputy director of CIA for science and technology. We would do things that people would say, that's not possible.
You can think of music. That's so cool. I was the lead analyst at CIA in charge of telling the president what he needs to know. Yeah, pretty intense. Bias led to really the worst mistake the CIA has ever made.
You can mitigate the vast majority of biases. just by being aware. The key to any great achievement is an amazing team that is unafraid, and that has to include unafraid to say what they think.
People would be surprised to learn how important empathy is at the CIA. You primarily show empathy by listening, really listening. The CIA just declassified that I went on secret missions to North Korea. I have not spoken about this in public before. I'm Brian Carbaugh.
