Lecture Notes: Setting Up the HAMILTON-T1 and Running Pre-Op Checks

Introduction

  • Presenter: Billy, HAMILTON-T1 account manager
  • Topic: Setup of HAMILTON-T1 ventilator and procedure for running pre-op checks

Exhalation Valve Setup

  • Procedure:
    • Turn the ventilator to access the port.
    • Insert the exhalation valve fully.
    • Turn a quarter to the right until a click is heard.
    • Ensure it is tightly secured.

Circuit Setup

  • Features:
    • Sleeve on the circuit to prevent tangling.
  • Installation:
    • Fits in only one direction to prevent incorrect assembly.
  • Flow Sensor Lines:
    • Color-coded (white and blue) to avoid confusion.

Pre-Op Check

  • When to run:
    • When placing a new circuit or using the ventilator on a new patient.
  • Access:
    • Via the pre-op check tab on the main screen.

Pre-Op Check Procedure

  1. Tightness Test:

    • Precaution: Wear a glove to occlude the circuit.
    • Steps:
      • Press 'Tightness'.
      • Follow on-screen commands to tighten/occlude the system.
      • Observe pressure ramp and safety valve test.
      • Green arrow indicates pass.
  2. Flow Sensor Test:

    • Steps:
      • Press the flow sensor tab.
      • Disconnect the flow sensor connector, turn it as directed.
      • Follow the on-screen commands to manipulate the sensor.
      • Green check indicates pass.
  3. O2 Cell Test:

    • Conducted only as indicated by the ventilator.

Failed Test Protocol

  • Indication: Red X in test boxes.
  • Actions:
    • Check circuit connections from flow sensor to ventilator.
    • Inspect and reposition the exhalation valve membrane.
    • Retighten and reinsert the exhalation valve.
    • Reattach circuit and re-run pre-op checks.

Post Pre-Op Check

  • After passing:
    • Set controls.
    • Place filter in line.
    • Begin ventilation.
