Digestive System Overview

[Music] good day everyone welcome to teacher Julie [Music] channel hello everyone we have our new lesson in science 8 which is all about parts of the digestive system this will be the week 1 day 2 first quarter lesson and this topic is under the matatag curriculum [Music] for the objectives by the end of 80% of the learners will be able to first is to identify the major organs and structures that make up the human digestive system the second one is to construct a label diagram demonstrating the organization and interconnections of the digestive organs and the third one is to appreciate the remarkable complexity and efficiency of the human digestive system by answering the guide [Music] questions for the explicitation the student will identify the parts of the digestive [Music] system let us answer the following guide questions for the first question what are the parts of the digestive system the parts of the digestive system includes the mouth esophagus stomach small intestine pancreas liver gallbladder and large intestine and for the second guide question what do you know about the functions of the parts of the digestive system the first part of the digestive system is the mouth it is where the food enters the digestive tract and is chewed and mixed with saliva the second one is the esophagus so the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach another parts of the digestive system is the stomach so it stores and begins to break down food using digestive juices and muscles and another parts of the digestive system is the small intestine it is the longest part of the digestive tract where most nutrient absorption occurs another parts of the digestive system is the pancreas so it produces enzymes and hormones that aid digestion another parts of the digestive system is the liver so it produces bile to help digest fats and filters toxins from the blood another parts of the digestive system is the gallbladder so it stores and concentrates bile produced by the liver and another parts of the digestive system is the large intestine it absorbs water from indigestible food matter and eliminates waste and for the third guide question how can we classify the parts of the digestive system so the digestive system can be classified in a few key ways so the first one is by function so digestive organs such as the mouth stomach intestine these are that break down the food and then the second one is the accessory organ these are the liver pancreas and gallbladder this produce and secrete digestive enzymes and fluids another classification of the parts of the digestive system is bilocation so the upper digestive tract such as the mouth esophagus and stomach while the lower digestive tract it includes the small intestine and large intestine another classification of the parts of the digestive system is by purpose so the first one is the ingestion so it is bringing food into the body the second one is the digestion so it is breaking down food mechanically and chemically and the third one is absorption so absorb being nutrients from the digested food and the last one is elimination so it is by removing undigested waste from the body and for the work example the students will watch the following YouTube videos and accomplish the activity called the functions of the organs of the digestive systems and for the objectives the students will describe the different parts and function of the digestive system [Music] for the lesson activity check for students conceptual understanding on the functions of the digestive system and its processes so correct misconception as its surfaces or as you have observed them the following are some of the common misconception to watch for the first misconception is that digestion happens only in the stomach while the stomach is a crucial organ for digestion the process actually begins in the mouth with chewing and saliva breaking down food and continues in the small intestine where most nutrient absorption occurs the second misconception is all bacteria in the gut are harmful in reality the gut contains a mix of beneficial and harmful bacteria so beneficial bacteria aid in digestion it produce essential nutrients and support the immune system another misconception is that digestive issues are solely caused by food while diet plays a significant role in the digestive health other factors such as stress medication genetics and underlying medical condition can also contribute to digestive problems another misconception is that chewing gum takes seven years to digest so this is a common myth chewing gum is not digested like food it is usually passes through the digestive system without being broken down and is eventually expelled from the body another misconception is that spicy food causes stomach ulcers spicy food can exacerbate existing ulcer or cause discomfort in some individuals but it does not directly cause stomach ulcers the majority of the ulcers are caused by the bacterial infection the helicoacttor pylori or prolong use of nonsterile anti-inflammatory drugs another misconception is that fasting detoxifies the body while intermittent fasting or detox diets may have some benefits the idea that they detoxify the body by cleansing the digestive system of toxins is largely unfounded the liver and kidneys are primarily responsible for filtering and eliminating toxins from the body another misconception is that everyone needs to eat three meals a day so the ideal number of meals varies for everyone some people may feel better with three meals a day while others may prefer smaller more frequent meals or intermittent fasting it's essential to listen to your body's hunger and fullness cues another misconception is that digestive enzymes aid weight loss so while digestive enzymes help break down food there's little evidence to support the claim that they promote weight loss weight loss is primarily achieved through a combination of a balanced diet regular physical activity and lifestyle changes another common misconception is that stomach acid cause heartburn contrary to the popular belief heartburn is often caused by a weakened lower esophagial expenter allowing stomach acid to reflex into the esophagus while exist stomach acid can exacerbate symptoms it's not always the primary cause another common misconception is that the digestive system works independently of the rest of the body the digestive system is intricately connected to other bodily systems including the nervous endocrine and immune systems factors such as stress emotions hormones and overall health can influence the digestive function [Music]
