ok today we're going to look at point of view and that is our L six point six and our L seven point six six point six says determine an author's point of view or purpose and attempts and explain how it's conveyed seventh grade is very similar it says analyze how an offer develops and contrast the points of view of different characters or narrators in a text with seven if you do have to contrast show the difference and the two characters and how their point of view is different all right so we're going to look at the story homecoming by HP Philips okay so we know that when we're looking at point of view we're looking for the author's perspective how they feel about what's going on to the story you can find on author's point of view by looking at word choice by looking at their tone and the author's stock so let's look Kate probably takes us right now Lea said as she and Oscar watched the old car roll to a stop in their driveway she had her heart set on going to that concert Oscar put an arm around Lisa's shoulders yeah I know but I have a feeling she will have no trouble forgiving us about one hour from now okay home look warned to get their attention and Liz and Oscar quickly loaded their EG suitcases into the trunk before sliding into the passenger seats hey cousin Oscar said cheerfully thanks again for picking us up figures that my part would break down just before our flight without any time to call a cab no problem Capeside family always comes first I guess she glanced at the clock on the dashboard I can manage to drop them off at the airport by 8:00 she thought desperately I might be able to catch the end of the concert okay so when looking at one of you we want to look at how the characters try on change from beginning to end we swear you'll do that in a minute but let's look at how these characters spell here so we have three characters we have Kate we have Oscar and we have lips all three of those characters will have a different point of the so let's look right here Kate probably hates us right now Leah said so how is Leah's feeling she thinks well Kate her Kate probably hates her so she said she had her heart set on going this concert okay so that's how Leah's feels right now she she thinks that Kate's going to hate her all right then Oscar says yeah I know but I have a feeling she will have no trouble forgiving us about one hour from now so he said Oh she'll be okay in a little while okay so that's how many spelling he's just kind of you know push it off it'll be okay all right so then let's look about Kate right here okay now keep in mind that we have said right here she had her heart when I said on one of that concert so it was something she really wanted to do she said no problem Kate side family always comes first I guess she blasted the clock on the dashboard managed to drop them off at the airport by age she thought desperately I might be able to catch the end of the concert okay so look right here how B is in the in italics she's not saying that to them that she's saying that in her head okay so she's telling them no problem is swage and we're not you know no big deal but she sighed and then she says family always comes first I guess so she's telling them oh it's okay but inside she's really not a payment at a pace she's upset about it she sighed she was kind of disappointed all right she glanced at the clock on the dashboard look it managed to drop them off at the airport by 8:00 she thought desperately I might be able to get to see a little of the concert so she told them it's okay but inside she was really disappointed she was fixing to miss that concert all right so the key word there I think is desperately yes if somebody's desperate they really really want something and say that look you know she really was very upset about missing the concert that's wrong alright let's continue the story and remember characters oftentimes their point of view changes when events happen story and you're gonna see where the characters point-of-view shifts so far No why do you want to go to the arrivals gate Kate asked as she navigated the sea of traffic you'll decide to go upstairs the security officer muttered something about the information that Kate pulled up to the curb and Oscar jumped out of the car what's he doing a skate but Liz just shoved and requesting her help with the suitcases Kate brown but she got in the car and pulled one from the trunk this is awfully light for a she stopped and dropped the suitcase ma a woman in an army guard was hurting on the airport with a grinning Oscar just behind her surprise you know there's an Oscar and tears of joy trickle down Kate's face as she embraced her mother came out the simple thanking to her cousins for the best lie they ever told so we can already tell without even underlining evidence that we see a shift and one characters point of view in particular so let's look at our characters likeness Lincoln's mentioned earlier one of our characters is is Kate okay at the beginning why do you want to go the arrivals gate um Kate asked okay here we see that we see Kate's feeling she's a little confused she don't understand what's going on and then if you'll notice Oscar goes on to say that he jumped out of the car it seems like he's very excited if he jumped out of the car he's excitement so we say his point of view here and remember his point of view at the beginning was he knew that they would be upset that Kent would be upset with them but he knew would be okay and here he's getting excitement here and then the big point of view changes if you'll notice when it says um well a couple things surprise you know that exclamation point we say that Lynn and Oscar so they're excited so we can see and this is the big one tears of joy trickle down Kate's face well obviously if the tears of joy she's very very excited she went from being very disappointed desperate to try to get to that concert to now she's shooting these tears of joy and we know that she's shedding them because she's getting to sing her mom they surprised her in if you'll notice also she says the thank you to her cousins so we know that her point of view has shifted from being bombed and upset - here she is she's overjoyed and she's excited to get to see her mother so we see that ship and the character's point of view in particular with Kate
