Types of Projects in SAP
Overview
There are four main types of SAP projects:
Implementation Project
Supporting Project
Rollout Project
Enhancement Project
Implementation Project
Definition: Moving data from non-SAP systems (Legacy Systems) to SAP systems.
Example: A manufacturing company currently using various software (Tally, Salesforce, etc.) wants a unified system (SAP) for all business requirements.
Legacy Systems: Any software other than SAP (e.g., Tally, Salesforce).
Duration: Typically 1 to 2 years.
Supporting Project

Duration: 2 to 20 years.
Key Activities: Consultants assist users in resolving errors, unfreezing issues, and ensuring efficient SAP usage.
Rollout Project
Definition: Extending the SAP system from one country to another, adjusting for local taxation and legal requirements.
Example: A company operates in the US and wants to extend operations to India, requiring adjustments in SAP settings for Indian laws and currencies.
Duration: Usually 6 to 8 months.
Enhancement Project
Definition: Upgrading from a lower version of SAP to a higher version (e.g., ECC to S4/HANA).
Duration: 6 to 8 months.
Types of Servers in SAP
Development Server: Used by consultants for configuration and initial testing.
Quality Server: Used for testing configurations made in the development server.
Production Server: Used by end-users for real-time data entry and reporting.
Transport Request (TR)
